Hi there!

I would very much like to upgrade my RC boat to make it go a lot faster. It can't even plane with the slow 540 standard beginners motor that's installed now. I bought the boat in about 1994-95, when I was in public school, and now I'm a student at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. Well, about the boat- it's a Thunder Tiger, Turbo Cruiser, with 7,2 volt 540* (I think), standard motor, see pics below. I am using a 7,2 volt 1200 mAh nicad batterypack, and Hitec Challenger 250 remote control unit and servos. The boat is 32" long and about 8" wide, and goes about 10 mph.. MAX!

Does anyone have some serious upgrade suggestions?
Remember I'm a student, which means low budget... :-)

Thanks on advance! :)

Orca: Sure sounds like something isn't right to begin with. Manufacturers usually don't build something that won't PLANE, except maybe the really TOY boats that run on AA batteries!
Check the wiring on the speed control.

You can upgrade to at least a ROAR stock motor to get more speed. Also, get rid of those 1200mah battery packs!

The 700 bb 8.4 seems to be a good motor but a brushless motor like a lehner 1930 motor can push this hull to it limit with 12 cells.

They have cooling coils for the 700 size motors .

He can't fit cooling coils in his boat. The motor fits in a molded space just large enough for the motor.

Ah , gotcha , the "Phantom" , my bad .
Although i have seen this boat and others made that way , gutted and cooling coil installed .
