I just purchased a used E-maxx, I am considering the following upgrades...

*single shock set-up
*Traxxas lightweight drivetrain (Input/Idler shaft etc.)
*2wd (possibly front wheel drive)
*single motor/single 6 cell
*Traxxas diff spool
*Proline bows mounted on velocity rims.
*a modified single speed gear case (if possible).

I think you can see were I am going with this project, don't get me wrong...I totally respect a 14 cell brushless rig however I am going for a less is more set-up

Any suggestions/feedback would be greatly appreciated regarding after-market products possible modifications etc. Steve! :shocked

2WD isn't the worst idea, but FWD in a big monster won't work. You'll have no traction, and the weight transfer will have you spinning your wheels.

Single motor may be lighter, but it isn't necessarily better since there is a lot of weight to propell. If you were going that route, a single brushless motor and 6 cells. That should provide plenty of power.

The rest of the stuff should be fine. A single-shock setup may take more work to fine tune, since you will have to find the right oil and spring combination to make up for having 2 shocks per wheel (Simply doubling the oil and spring rate won't work).

Overall, don't mess with it. Lightweight tranny components and removing all the 2-speed hardware will save a lot of weight. The rest don't bother with: It works fine as it is.

That happened to me once, when a rear axle broke. Front wheel drive SUCKS with an EMaxx. It will do nothing but spin the tires, and you won't be able to get it going anywhere near top speed for a long time. If you want 2WD, rear is fine, but front is just plain crazy.

Also, whats with the single batt/motor setup? Thats crazy, too. The EMaxx is designed for dual motors and batts, and it wont even be able to keep up with a radio shack car, unless you get brushless, and that won't be that great with one battery.

It is a great truck if you leave it stock, but one upgrade I would reccomend it shocks. The best ones are the Traxxas Big bore, but whatever you do, don't get the integy/top shocks. I learned that the hard way, and they leak like crazy, no matter what you do.
