Welcome everyone to the Second Street/Race Competition!!

The Street/Race paint competition will be open for entrees for two weeks and will close at Midnight March 28th.

Each month we will hold a Best Paint and Street/Race competition. If you cant get your bodies done this month, dont worry there will be plenty more to come!!

The winning bodies may appear in Radio Control Car Action or R/C Nitro!!

All entrees must meet the criteria: "Your idea of a muscle car"

RULES for Street/Race competition:

1) Any body may be submitted to the competition (Truck, buggy, touring car, etc).
2) Any body submitted may NOT appear in another competition.
3) Photo editing the pictures (other than cropping and adjusting brightness/contrast) is highly looked down upon and may result in disqualification.
4) Anyone may enter a body (professional painters are welcome!)
5) Please refrain from insulting bodies in anyway.
6) Must fall within this month's restrictions (March restriction: Whatever comes to mind when you think muscle car! .i.e. Supped up Supras, Mustangs, corvettes, trucks, whatever).
7) Only 2 entrees per person.
8) Bodies should be painted within the last 4 months.
9) Bodies must be of a "street" look or be painted in a race car style (real and made up scheme).

Each submission must include the following:
Body manufacturer and size.
Paint used.
Masks used (hand or precut)
Inspiration (could be another paint job).
And of course, a body.

This month Rcaddict will be judging the Street/Race paint competition.

Each body will be judged by the following criteria (1-bad, 10-excellent):

Detail (score 1-10) (decals, grills, mirrors, roll cages, if its on a real car you score points here)
Over all design (score 1-10)
Execution (score 1-10)

The photo and background will not be judged. All that is needed is a clean photo that clearly shows the body.

Each month we will place some restriction on all entrees.

April restrictions:
Best Paint- Cans only.
Street/Race- Movie cars (if its in a movie then its game).

GOOD LUCK

My example:

Body: HPI Trans Am 200mm (yes i know its mounted on a 190mm chassis :))
Paint: Parma fasblack, fascesent purple, faswhite.
Masks: Just the windows.
Inspiration: A while ago i went through the lightning phase and I thought the lightning up the hood and doors would look, not only realistic, but also mean looking.

Thanks for catching that calvin. At the bottom I always list next months restrictions. I changed the restrictions, but not the month. This months restriction is Your idea of a muscle car.

It has now been changed.

Thanks and sorry for any confusion. :)

Well this thread isn't going too well, it'll get better.

Does anyone make a 1973 BMW CSL (yeah I didn't think so) that is quite possibly the only old car i have ever liked.

Come on guys, lets not hi-jack this thread anymore. It's perfectly fine as it is.

mab: "Your idea of a muscle car" seems a little general to me. So, if I make a 2000 VW Beetle look like a muscle car you'll accept it? If so, then here I come!

Stalker911
03-17-2003, 01:18 AM
On topic comment....

Can a Lexus GS400 count as a muscle car? I know it isn't by typical standards.. but by todays standards it would be one I think...

And now for my animated gif :D

AHHH too many to choose from!!!!

If you make it look like it could push some serious horses then by all means enter it.

As for a Lexus GS400, if you beef it up a little then go ahead.

The idea is to add some detail to any body to make it look like a muscle car. (if it has a bunch of ponies already then dont worry about it)

This is the best street race competition after all, and 1/3rd of the points come from added detail.

Basically what is exceptable is the artists Idea of a Muscle Car...
I have seen painting of people that to me didnt look like the individual at all but to the artist it was a perfect rendition.... Therefore I beleive it was said that if you think it can put horses to the street lets see you paint it...

I hope there will be some unique entires this time. So far all the cool cars are non-entries:( I've got one cookin up that, although is an American car, isn't your typical Mopar Monster from decades past.

Also I hope to see the imports represented as they seem to be the new "street rods"

mab_man20
03-18-2003, 02:13 AM
It seems that everyone painted a muscle car a while ago. ummm. maybe some one will paint one for this competition. Maybe I can find the time to paint up a vette.

BIGDADDYV: Thanks for the clarification.

doubleA: Now you have the idea! I hope to see some crazy modded or mutant imports. (a civic with a big wing is not a muscle car, it will fall into the import contest coming soon)

RS4 3 Racer: Can you please read the beginning of the thread and give us the required info for the body? thanks

I haven't painted anything in while so I decided to fire off a new body for racing this season. Sorry for the bland pics, the body looks much more metallic in real life and the scales seem to shimmer in the sunlight.

Body: HPI Silvia 190mm
Paint: Faskolor pearl green, pearl blue, fasflourescent green and yellow, and faspearl black. SpazStix chrome.
Mask: Hand cut Bob Dively's Liquid Mask.
Inspiration: 1. This months muscle car comp. To me the Silvia and the Skyline are two modern day Japan muscle cars. 2. Was trying to incorporate the dragon scheme I did a while ago into a cool racing/street scheme. Dispite some minor mistakes, I think this works pretty well.

I know it's of the wall, but since painting it in febuary, it has recieved quite a few comments for her, and really looks quite fast!
for a VW...........

Body- HPI micro Beetle Cup Racer

Masking - Free hand liquid mask

Paint- Createx auto air/parma fascolor

Airbrush- Iwata Eclipse

Details- Various sponsor decals

Inspiration- My own... just thought it would look good with the colors she wanted and portray the fast & furious look of most current import racers without all the huge graphics and lettering.

spenzalii--What would be "Getto" about trimming that body to look like a "Real" Boss???......They manufacturers always leave the ground effects on the old Muscle cars.....easier to pull from the mold I guess....but trimming it off looks MUCH BETTER!!!!....To make the look even more realistic they need to include roll pan type pieces in separate molds so you can put them on yourself.....kind of like the HPI Lamborghini GTR's roll in the rear.....

What would be "Getto" about trimming that body to look like a "Real" Boss???.

I think that was supposed to be get to. I was either sleepy or tipsy when I was typing and forgot to add the space (and check the post for grammer). I was thinking about filling the space with some Super Nitro wheels or some truck wheels, but they don't come in the 'Cragar' type wheel. I got those from Hobby-Tech, who unfortunately went out of business, so now I need to find some rims to match before I can take the car out anywhere. With the right wheel, it won't matter too much if the body is trimmed a little more.

HauntedMyst: Another great scale body (its about time you finished it, lol)

EMaxx150: Im not sure about most of the times, but one time you posted the link correctly, but the site requires you to log on before viewing an album so we could not see it. Try picturetrail.com or Digitalpose.com. Last i checked they were both free and are great for posting pics to link to.

MrCrash: A 1/8th buggy says muscle to me!

JSBodies: VW bug and muscle?? Is it a turbo version? J/k great job!

So that car is not allowed in the compitetion, because the masks are not readily avaliable:mad:

:) That was the rule for the last comp wasn't it? This lot just have to be muscle cars... I was gonna get myself a dodge charger to do but my lhs don't have anything like that... Still I'll post it when I get one even if it ain't relevant to the comp at the time!

No Problem. I think I had the posts set a bit low in the shot, which made it look worse.

dkangel, Where did you get those rims? I could use those as a substitute. Great flame job, too.

Body: HPI PT Cruiser (w/ Custom Blower)

Paint: Faspearl Silver, Faspearl Black, Faspearl Blue/Charcoal mix

Mask: Fastape

Inspiration: Actually after seeing RCaddict's winning Hot Rod from last month I had to do one. Although it's not your typical street rod who says you can't throw a fully blown V8 into a PT Cruiser?

I didn't have time to do an exhaust but plan to soon. The mirrors are Tamiya. The "blower" is the nose section of a F201 body kit (it comes with 2). And the dubs are HPI Super Nitro's w/ Kyosho tires. I masked the windows to mimic the old school "Panel Trucks", if I could paint better I had planned on doing a mural on the side;)

Hope you like it!!

Spenz, I got mine off ebay from a guy with the handle of youvecomealongway...
I also buy perfomance parts for the Hayabusa from him... I typed in tc3 rims and tires, I paid 25.80 with shipping.. That included the rims and tires and foams.. They are 26mm.. They run great on the street...
Hope this hepls... BDV

Bodywerx: The commercial mask contest was the first two weeks of the month. Now we are doing muscle cars.

Its actually actually a friends Kawasaki Ninja stunt/race bike.... We all race the 1/4 at a local track.. I run 1/4 and he and his 7 buddies do stunts... 90mph wheelies with their bodies over the handle bars and a passenger on the back.. Crazy stuff like that... I will post the link sometime to heir website if youd like...... Sorry but there is no real mustang.. BDV

Grifter - I was working on one for this comp, but had major setbacks, (BDV knows for sure) Will have it done by this weekend and will post pics next week. Too bad late for comp though...

Body: HPI Micro RS4 GMC Sierra

Paint: All Faskolor, Flourescent Blue, Green, Yellow and Orange. Flourescents never look right in a photo.

Mask: Mini Parma Drips (I think, Definately commercial.)

Inspiration: The guy I painted it for said, "Paint something bright that doesn't look like anyone else's.

I don't know if a slammed pickup exactly qualifies as a muscle car, but you can get it with a 454:D

Sorry about the hack job on the wheel wells he mounted it. I didn't figure on a contest entry it was painted in January.

Thanks Kden46. Unfortunetly it sold really low on ebay, but the buyer wants an RC trailer tainted to match. Oh boy will that be hard. 12 colors were used on that body and several techniques that I hadn't used before. It's gonna be interesting.

Ditto on the 'who won' bit.

Well, I was finally able to do the judging. Like one of the other judges said, "this was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be". After adding all the scores here are the top 5.

 OK, sure.........Thanks. I am honored but I was just as happy with second place. It's not at all about winning for me but I enjoy pushing myself to do better each time. What better motivation than competition. Anyways Thanks.

Mab: Just so nobody is offended or disagrees with the judging from comp to comp I think you need to clarify the judging criteria for this and the other comp (best paint) so it remains fair. I guess the way I understand it is this is more of a concourse comp with the "detail" aspect and the other is more specific to the Paint? So does that mean if a car with a full blown interior is judged with a similarly painted car w/o interior in the Paint comp they both are weighted evenly?

BTW I think these comps are GREAT!!!!! Thanks to all that participate
:D

Mab is in class so I will clarify and he can correct me where I stray from his vision:

To answer your question, "So does that mean if a car with a full blown interior is judged with a similarly painted car w/o interior in the Paint comp they both are weighted evenly?" The answer is no, the car with the full interior will win. Or put another way, two cars, equally detailed, but one has a killer paint scheme, then the one with the good paint would win.

Best paint: Nothing but the paint counts.

Street/Race: More of a concourse event. Paint still counts for a lot, but detailing counts for even more. Matching wheels, wings, decal placement, interiors, roll bars, etc to the body is important. If you can imagine it, you can put it on the car and have it count for something.

I think if we changed the critera it would help clarify things.

Paint Work (score 1-10) How is the paint job? How clean is it? How well designed? If a replica, how well duplicated?

Detail (score 1-10) (decals, grills, mirrors, roll cages, if its on a real car you score points here) Are they cleanly executed? Do they match the car? Do they look realistic or do they look like model parts slapped on the car?

Over all design (score 1-10) How does the design look over all? Is it wholistically designed or does it look hodge podge? Was something obvious left out? For example: Does the detailing looks great, but then a bad paint job was added on top of it?

Execution (score 1-10) Now look at the whole car. Is it well done?

As for people getting offended, yes, the rules need to be clarified. People getting offended is going to happen anyways and to a large degree, you can't and shouldn't attempt to control it. In this comp, a good 50% of the people submitting (including me) didn't do the job of submitting cars like you did. Mab & the judge needs good clean pictures and in this case, they need to detail the bodies and add chassis, wheels, mirrors, etc.
