View Full Version : After Run Tips...?

Ok,...as I said before, I'm new to R/C boats. I've been into nitro cars and trucks for a couple of years now and I have my typical "after run" habits that I follow when I put my vehicles away. Ya' know,....clean and degrease the vehicle with denatured alcohol, clean and oil the air filter, add a few drops of after run oil to the carb and crank the motor a few times. I also remove the glow plug and put a couple of drops directly into the cylinder and crank the motor a few more times.

My questions are...

Other than what I mentioned above, is there anything special that I need to do to my marine engine after I run it...?

I ran my boat for the first time on Saturday. When I got home, I immediately removed all of the electronics from the radio box, cleaned and dried everything that I could possibly reach, and added after run oil to the carb and cylinder. I also took a can of compressed air and blew the water out of the cooling lines. I then left the boat "open" to air dry for a day or two.

Do I need to remove the cooling head to make sure that all of the water is completely out of it...? ...or, will it hurt to just leave it the way it is...? I know that a nitro engine is extremely sensitive to any type of moisture. Will water/moisture ruin the cooling head if it stays in there for any length of time...?

Bear with me here, people...

I have a lot to learn! ;)

Thanks,
