I've got one of these coming in... how do these compare to the T-Maxx... I know the parts are interchangeable...

i reccomend just getting to learn how to drive it first. i assure you they are plenty fun stock! i dont own one but i have driven one (friend owns one) the engine is pretty strong on it and the suspension is amazing. the thing practically floats over everything you drive it over. you will have lots of fun with it. if your doing alot of bashing the reverse module wouldn't be a bad idea.

i just bought a savage last week. i love it! this truck handles like a dream, it's a lot like driving a 1/8 scale buggy, corners like its on rails and very stable in the air. the stock setup is pretty good but save yourself the trouble and buy the hot bodies cvd's when you buy the truck. i broke all four of the dogbones the fifth day i had it. luckily the LHS had the cvd's in stock. the hot bodies tuned pipe is also a must as well as a larger air cleaner. before these mods the engine ran at top performance at 2 turns out, now it runs at top performance at 3 1/2 turns out.
everybody in my area is selling their t-maxx's and buying savages. the speed and acceleration are comparable but the savage will run circles around a maxx when it comes to handling. sorry maxx owners but it's true.
this is an awesome truck and i would recommend it to anyone. the engine is very reliable and powerful, and except for the dogbones the truck seems indestructable.
Buy it, buy it, buy it!!!

I have yet to break any dogbones but the Motor savers air filter for the Savage is a MUST. Like jcole said I had to richen it drasticly to get it to run. It did improve performance. I also bought a new steering servo. Cirrus Logic CS-80. Hobby people.net has them for 22 bucks.
Good luck and have fun.

I've only broken two dogbones after having the Savage since November, but I would buy the CVDs anyway. Saves a lot of trouble and they perform better. Here's what I would get if you're starting out:
Fuel filter
Airfilter (MS or HPI are good)
Pipe (RB086, Hot Bodies, etc.)
Shock oil (I am getting Trinity 30wt)
Tire foams
Those are the first hopups I would buy since they effect the truck the most. Only the fuel filter is a must have, but the others are nice. Also, get some updated knuckles/uprights (free from HPI). I got the reverse module, too, since I drive near a lot of obstacles. Have fun!!

I have had my Savage 21 since Nov. I have only Broke the Spur Gear. I also have a T-Maxx 2.5, the savage is way better. The speeds seem to be the same but the savage just takes a beeting unlike the fragile T-Maxx. here is my set up as is:
Stock except
30 Wt in all 8 shocks
MIP 7.5 Racing Clutch
Hot Bodies Pipe
Hot Bodies locking hex nuts
HPI Dodge Ram Body
motor Saver Air filter
Hitec Digital Servo HS-5475HB Throttle
Hitec Digital Servo HS-5645MG Steering
Orial 1100 NMiH Reciver pack 7.0volt
Volt Watch battery meter
M8 Transmitter and 3 Channel Reciever
Rebuilt Throttle and brake:D :D

Hey that's my truck!!! :D
I was the first one in my area to get a Savage, I have only broke 1 original rear upright and 1 fuel tank. The fuel tank was a fluke hit and I think the cold made it break.
My truck has
RB086 pipe
RB air filter
Mugen 3 shoe clutch/flywheel
Hitec 5945mg digital steering servo
950mah rx pack
venom failsafe
HB clamping hex adapters
and of course the OFNA throttle/brake linkage as seen above
I also has some beadlocks for it but haven't used them yet.

i notice a lot of you guys have a racing clutch installed. how big of a diference did it make on the overall performance? i just ordered a set of the HB carbon clutch shoes and am hoping they are a nice enough improvement.
i also set up a wicked ramp for my truck this past weekend. the savage was hitting 6 feet high and about 20 feet distance. i ran two tanks through it jumping the whole time(a bunch of crashes resulted) and nothing broke! i love the fact that this truck is so durable. how about a list of the parts you guys have broken? here's mine:
all four dogbones
gear inside steering servo
that's a short list for having a gallon of fuel through it, and i'm not a gentle driver.
