Pinion choices for XXX-T

I'm running an 88 tooth spur gear on my XXX-T. Last week I running a Trinity Monster stocker with a 21 pinion and melted the hell outta some winds on the armature. I was told I should have been running an 18 or 19 at the most.

I've got a Trinity Speed Gems Pro 17X2 mod and a Orion Core stock. I was told to run about an 18 or 19 on the Orion and I could run a 21 or 22 on the Trinity!!

Can this be right??!! I can run a larger pinion on a mod and not hurt anything??? HELP!!!!!!

I'm running Sanyo 2400 batteries.

i run reedy mvp's 88 spur and 17 or 18 pinion.
p2k2 try 88 spur and 20 pinion.
you may want to try a 86 spur also.
i have not tried the monster stock yet but i hear that you have to go to a smaller pinion. try a 16
i would rather try the monster stock in a buggy than a truck. the monster has less torque than the other motors.
