So who else likes these rigs? I just rebuilt mine, actually a conversion of an RC10T, and just have to paint the body and rebuild the shocks.

It's a great car. I have a team kit, which has gold anodised shocks, and rubber tires. I like that you can put b3 wheels and tires on it.

If you buy a set of HPI univeral wheel adapters (They come in their Super Star truck wheels), you can mount 12mm hex touring car wheels.
For the fronts, you can do a couple things: Use steering and caster blocks from some touring car (Traxxas, Associated, HPI, whatever), or use some BRP pan-car/TC wheel adapters (A little sleeve you put in the hex, then drilled out the wheel and slid bearings in), but I don't know if the BRP units are still made.
The width of the rear perfectly fits a 200mm touring car shell, and the wheelbase is close: Mine seems a hair long for a typical HPI shell with the car in 'long' wheelbase mode.

GT Freak-
This is the part you need: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX2869&P=7
Replace the T-nut at the same time, as that actually wears and loosens before the thrust screw. I see they are 'shoulder' screws now: They were always full-thread screws from the early days of the Stealth in 1991.

There must be a way to get it out. Maybe use a toughly 1/8" rod and some CA or epoxy to carefully glue it to the nut, and then when it sets back the screw out.
Or maybe a thin drill into the nut somehow, like at a right angle or off-center, and then hold it there while you back out the screw.

gonna try and drill a hole in the nut side in the plastic, then try to get it out, will let you know the results!:D

I got it out by pounding a nail into the plastic, then put a allen wrench in to hold it, and BINGO!! out it came!
now if someone on here has the diff installation instructions i could see, that would b VERY helpful :)

I am looking for a RC10DS manual... bought the car off ebay (did not come with the manual). Would settle for a scan.
Also, I understand there are many conversions to use standard wheels. Anyone perform a TC3 adaptation? I read on associated's site a conversion using HPRS4 Pro parts (without details)
I'd like to run the car in a "breakout" oval class... the local guys run JACO or BSR wheels/tires.
Any help appreciated.

Anyone know if/where I could find a DS conversion kit? I have an old CE laying around that I'm not doing anything with that would be perfect to convert. Thanks for any info you have.
SteveK

I'm sure some places have them, but I haven't seen any in a while.
If you can't find one, you don't need EVERYTHING in the kits, but it might be pricey to build one up. It's probably easier to find a used DS or conversion on ebay than building one from parts.

I have been acquiring DS cars, parts, ect. but i can't find rubber tires that fit on the stock wheels, any suggestions? Do B3 wheels & tires really fit on the DS?
microrcdude
11-14-2003, 09:22 PM
Yeah, B3 tires fit. It used to be my dirt oval car. I had to trim the front bumper, though. I am gonna buy some wheel bearings this weekend.

Cool. HPI's Sport shocks will fit just fine, and will even match the stock length almost perfectly if you use the upper and lower ends with the larger holes and the approriate balls (HPI sells them, and the ones from Traxxas rod-ends fit).

how much is a brand new DS racer worth???
SteveK
01-25-2004, 01:17 AM
They sold for about $100 new, just the rolling chassis. It's a good car, better quality and specs than any $100 touring car. If Associated updated it to take TC wheels, tires, and bodies, it would probably be a good seller, especially for drifters.

I don't know if they are still selling them, but this link:
http://www.sheldonshobbies.com/listing/hotkitc.html
Has DS kits for $119. These appear to be the originals, with slippers, metal shocks, and rubber tires. The Qualifiers came with no slipper, composite shocks, and foam tires.
I was doing some fiddling, with mounting touring car wheels on my DS, and I will post the results in a little while.

OK, I tried mounting some TC wheels and bodies on my DS and here is what I found.
- The easiest way to mount rear wheels is to use HPI's Super Star wheel adapters, and just cut the little flange off the outer edge. They just slip on the axles and give more spacing out than regular hex hubs.
- I haven't tried the fronts but I am considering either Traxxas or TC3 front carriers, knuckles, and axles.
- In the rear at least, 3mm offset wheels worked great on an HPI '190mm' 98 Accord body, which is closer to 200mm than 190. For a Protoform Porsche Boxter I needed to use regular offset wheels, and they fit alright. You need to use so much offset to mount 200mm bodies I don't know that it's worth it, if you can even find the wheels.
- For the wheelbase, if you switch to the shortest one and use a body with no rear wheel outlines, it should work. For other bodies like HPI and Tamiya, you'll have to do some more mods to get a shorter wheelbase to fit. It's not much so you could 'scootch' the front and rear wheel openings forward and backwards a bit if you wanted.

You were actually able to use a 190mm body with 3mm offset TC wheels?? How wide is the DS at the front axles? I don't have a DS, but I converted my RC10 to a TC pan car and my front axles measure 235mm front end to end.
I just ordered some HPI 26mm Mesh wheels with no offset, hoping to squeeze a 200mm body on it. I thought I would need to modify the hub carriers to clear the wheels, but you said you mounted the no-offset 26mm wheels with no problems? They cleared the a-arms, hub carriers, etc. no problem?
I'd love to see some pictures!

Just dug out the old RC10 DS and some parts in the bottom of my tools box
1. MIP shiny CVDs
2. HPI 2 speed for stealth transmission
now who has the best front end conversion to fit TC wheels?
I would like to use Associated parts, you know??

HPI has a great how-to guide on their site, just go under the wheels section and scroll down, it should say "Attention RC10DS owners" or something close to that.
Any idea on how much the DS Team kits go for now days, never ran?
