Well, for me, anyway. FanFold 18 span 23.3 length, GWS single A-drive (IPS), 250 LiPoly X 3, elevons, rudder and throttle. Weighs 5.6 ounces. Hovers, and accelerates straight up out of the hover.
Now I gotta learn how to move the sticks correctly. :D

P.S. My friend, Michael Connally, dubbed it the "JAR".. Just Ain't Right!

How about some shots to show the wing layout? Good looking pilot in there, too.

Hey SR71fan,
Nice job once again. The pilot figure really makes the "JAR". Are you using a 9x7 prop or something else?

Mike,
Here's a little better shot of the wing. I couldn't take too many pictures while flying, 'cause I was afraid I'd crash it.
Dale,
I'm using a GWS 10/4.7 for better hoverring.
Thank you both for the pilot comments.

Hey SR71:D
That is a perfect name.I didnt realize it until I saw the wing, just how big it was.How did you make it?do you have any plans for it?how are the acrobatics of it?
I have to say that is one neat looking plane.Looks like you made it out of blue foam?I have plenty of that laying around along with a couple of S2's .show me how you made it pleeaaaase;)
Take Care

Mike,
You don't need plans. Start with a rectangle of FanFold (BlueCore) measureing approximately 18 X 24". Round off one end using a 9 inch radius. I used a piece of string and a felt tip marker to draw the semicircle, then cut it round free-hand with a SHARP number 11 blade, carefully following the mark. Next, cut the elevons off the other end, leaving about a 1 inch center section intact. Mine are 5.75 inches deep (chord). I hinged them with Scotch brand Transparent tape using the over and under method. I drew my fuselage halves (top and bottom) freehand with a marker and cut them out with the same number 11 blade. I peeled the film off the top of the wing and elevons to save about six grams of weight. I left it on the bottom for strength. Epoxy the fuselage halves on the centerline of the wing, remembering to cut a notch in the bottom half for the motor stick. Also, when epoxying to BlueCore with the film still attached, you must poke holes in the film to let the epoxy in to the foam itself. I used a number 00 phillips screwdriver for that. Otherwise, the film will pull away from the foam and your parts will become separated. I hinged the rudder with tape as I did the elevons. Install your favorite "Pico" type equipment, and a 3-cell 250 LiPoly, and go have a ball. CG is 5 and 3/4 inches back from the front of the wing. Here's a top view of the plane. Have Fun! Gary

Flyinhigh, Aerobatics are a snap (no pun). Hover, loops and FAST rolls are easy in a single basketball court gynasium even at my elevation of 4200 feet (thin air up here). Here's a view of the top left. Gary

That is too neat Gary.. Tell me.. How is your A drive holding up so far to the 3 cell LiPo pack.. I have a new Mini Gee Bee that is really anemic on the A drive and 2 cell 560 LiPO's. I am leaning toward either the 3 cell pack, or a 4.8 volt D drive IPS swing a 10 inch prop..

Mike,
I have fried five motors in two weeks. All of them had heat sinks with thermal transfer paste. Some had a couple hours flight time on them... one had less than 8 minutes total with two flights. Too much hovering, I guess. It's a lot of fun while it lasts, though. :D

I built one of Dave Robelen's Flapjacks for a next step in learning to fly. It was originally powered with a GWS A drive and a 9/7 prop. On Dave's recommendation I switched to a GWS E gearbox and an EDF 50. The EDF motor is wound different than the IPS motors and likes to rev high.....works great with the same prop and the E gears using two 1020 lipolys. I flew the new setup for the first time this morning and there is a substantial increase in performance.
So, anyone that has an A setup that they feel is underpowered might consider this hybrid.

I finally toasted all of the GWS IPS motors I had on hand. Out of deperation, I installed an old 280 with 4/1 gears and a 3-blade prop. It cruises around pretty good with two 1200 E-Tec LiPolys. BUT WAIT! I just happened to have two 3-cell packs of Kokam 880s. :D Straight up, rolling at 720 degrees per second, it never slows down. Motor is only warm if followed by half throttle cruising. Maybe this motor will last a while. If not... I have about six more. :) That 3-blade prop sure shows up in my pictures.

Hi Gary.
Im finished with mine (cant fly for a week tho, till my Flash5 comes in). AUW, without batteries, is ~5.25 ounces. 7.25 with batteries. Heres a pic:

CAFplanekid,
All right! Just in time for the fun-fly. I hope your radio gets here in time. Wanna RACE? :D
Mike,
Two hours and still running strong. Here's another picture..

Well, sure ill race. Just let me bolt on a little more powerful motor, sence yours is upgraded to a 280. (pulls out endoplasma and 10-cell CP-2400s, completely covers plane in packing tape).
All my stuff should be here in time, i ordered a flash5 yesterday.
