Hey Dirty Pirate: Do u work @ ACE?
I'm asking cuz i talked to someone there about my difficulty in installing the rubber donut on the ofna starter box that i bought from them and they were supposed to send me a pic of the setup today but they haven't. I was wondering if u could help. Thanks.
Hey all.... Was running the MBX this past weekend and runs sweet, except when its 'off'.... I mean, if the engines off and I just 'push' it by hand (working on it on table and noticed), it sounds kinda 'grindy'??? I think the diffs (front rear AND center) sound strange (to me anyways)... Does this RTR kit come with grease in them??? Should I rip them apart and fill them with diff fluid???
When I spin say the left from tire, it takes almost ONE full turn before the other from tire spins (and the rears DONT)... UP to the center diff...
HELLPPPPPPP!!!!!
Thanks......
PS: LOVE the P4.......
Ignore this question. I found out that it's a Ho Bao.
The Hyper 7 looks pretty good but I've decided on a Kanai Edition for my next buggy, if I get another buggy.

Help me please!
I stripped one of the large bevel gears in my rear diff Mon. night. It had plenty of grease in it, I don't know why it stripped. I need to replace it, but I am having some trouble and confusion finding it. I know the part # for the gear itself if 30769. I have not been able to find it anywhere. There is something called a bevel gear set that is part number 30770. Will this work for me? The parts lists at ofna's site are not working yet. Please let me know today if anyone has an answer. I am missing driving it already. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I guess that would have helped. It is the MBX RTR. I have had it for a little over a week. I guess I have run about 10 tanks through since break in, which was 5 tanks.

You need to put some silicone diff oil in the differentials. You might of burned up the gears(not literally) There is a rebuild kit for it. Doesn't cost very much. But I'd open up your other diffs also to check for diff oil. And be sure to use loctite on your set screws or any metal to metal screw connections.

hey lost dont u have to break in the diff's? could this have happened from the diffs not being broke in all the way
Lost Racer
08-22-2001, 08:00 PM
that is true as well. run the car slowly for a couple tanks to break in the diffs. So they can mesh correctly and don't strip or wear too fast.
I don't know if you HAVE to with this car. I heard you had to on the Mugen XR works. But it sounds like a good practice.

Needless to say..She no longer drives the buggy. :D

I've finally started working on my MBX R2. The engine is in and I'm installing the pipe now. Should the stinger (is that what you call the outlet tube on the pipe?) ever point slightly upward? I'm guessing not since unburnt fuel won't come out if it's pointing up.
With the manifold and pipe on the car, the pipe has to sit very high to stay level and for the stinger to point slightly downward. Is it common practice to cut the side guards to keep the pipe closer to the chassis? OR should I mount the pipe the way it is?
One more question: what do you all use to seal the pressure fitting on the pipe?
thanks in advance
Jay
Cut the wing for the pipe to sit practically on it.
Use wire-ties to hold the coupling in place.
I'm really considering upgrading my Ultra GT chassis to the Worlds II chassis. I know it's not as easy as unbolting one and bolting up the other but there are enough parts that will move directly over that I'm not worried about it.
Also, I swapped out the P4 for the 21RG from my brother. It's stronger on the bottom-end and stronger on the top-end and the bottom-end needle still needs to be leaned a bit.

Diff problem solved, and possibly many future ones too. I went yesterday afternoon to a hobbyshop in Simpsonville, SC. Not only did they have a bunch of ofna parts in stock, they had a whole sack of hardened diff gears. The said that a lot of people had been having problems with the black gears, and ofna had sent these out as replacements. They sold me a whole set for 8 bucks. I am going back tomorrow for 2 more sets. They also told me if I sent my damaged ones back, ofna would probably replace them for me.
I didn't specifically try to break the diffs in, but I did drive the car around slowly during break-in. The diff break-in, if necessary, should have happened then too.
Thanks again for the help, and if you live in SC, check out Golden Strip Hobbies in Simpsonville.
I picked up some shiny blue wheel nuts while I was there too. Just something different until I get rid of the stock body. I want to get a Worlds II body with the notchback. Seems like you should get better cooling with it. Does anyone know if it fits an MBX?

me lost and a few other people have w2's i will be taking mine to the track for the first time this weekend so i will be able to tell you more. i say get a good deal on a worlds 2 off e-bay then buy the hyper &/9 update kit you will get it a lot cheaper that way (when they releases the kit). yes i have seen the kit they have a lot of pic's on the ofna site but they or the 7pro and i dont think the regular 7 will look that trick so i will wait till i see that buggy before i fall in love (lol)
First of all, the Hyper 7 is made by Ho Bao, not Hong Nor so there will not be an upgrade kit for it. I don't know about the upcoming 9.5.
I do know that any of the Hong Nor buggies can swap parts relatively interchangeably. Yesterday I bought the Worlds II chassis and wings and moved my Ultra GT parts over to it. I have to buy a few more parts to get it finished but that's not that bad. While it's not a true Worlds II (suspension is still the older GT setup) it does have the front kick-up and, with a pillow-ball upgrade, will have the suspension.
Okay, I spoke with JR at Ace and he told me that the 9.5 is the direct replacement for the Worlds II.
As for my buggy, it's a cross between a Worlds II and a Ultra GT right now. I just need the suspension conversion to make a Worlds II. I have to say that JR at Ace has been a tremendous help with this project in that he's sold me stuff at really, really good prices.
On a slightly different note, I ran the buggy today at a local RC hang-out and I have to say that the 21RG does not have enough punch to make the buggy scream like I want so I will be looking for a new engine, soon.

so will there be an update kit so i can turn my w2 into a 9.5 (that would make me so happy) well mom came to town so i did not get to run today i was stuck on the comp all day in the monster truck room that and on
e-bay putting my gt up for sale
morfeeis
08-27-2001, 06:40 PM
Well, the gt is sold I will be getting my mp late this week or next. I ran the w2 for a bit when I had the time broke my first part that sucked, but I ran 4 more tanks after I broke it. I broke my wing mount and split my wing in half (traction roll and roll and roll and roll some more u get the point) I spent a lot of the day getting buggy dirty
I had a blast.
I have a q (before I brake anything else) there is this winning sound coming from the car at wot, when it passes by me it sounds like I am killing the car what is this noise. It kind of sounds like my diffs but I am not sure> is it time for a rebuild?
i also moved up to 100wt oil in my front shock and i am still not getting the dampening i want. i remember someone telling me about a ride height screw on the front a-arms but i never found it
Lost Racer
08-27-2001, 06:59 PM
Check your mesh on the whining..If its ok then make sure your bearings are in the gear box. I've heard the R2 running and it whines pretty loud itself. I looked over the buggy and the bearing on the rear driveshaft was hanging out of the gear box about 3/4 of the way..But it still performed very well. As far as the ride height screw goes, they're located next to the hingepins towards the rear of the arm.Reverse that for the rear arms.
They are setscrews. Thats if the previous owner even put them in...

Can't we just bend some front kickup into the chassis?
If not, whats are the differences between the gtlx and the worlds 2?
machinehead
08-28-2001, 03:18 AM
PCC if you are dealing with Ace, you may want to try that Collari engine they have... its a real screamer! I had the Hyper before that, and not to put down the Hyper, but what a difference! My car seriously hauls and I only have the 5 port... a good pipe might not be a bad idea either.
Lost Racer
08-28-2001, 11:29 AM
Scriber-Some differences would be:
1. Chassis Kickup
2. Different suspension Types(W2 has 2 types)
3. Placement of center diff for balance.
4. Torque Rods on the Worlds 2, instead of plate type chassis stiffeners like the GTLX.
5. (Stock) Longer shocks than the GTLX.
6. Worlds 2 comes in a kit format instead of RTR.
7. Worlds 2 was produced as a competition buggy. The GTLX would do fine in competition as well, but thats what the worlds 2 was made for. Both outstanding buggies to run.
8. The GTLX being RTR makes it easier to get into 1/8 scale.
Anyone like to add anything? Please do :D

Sounds like a big difference...I'm really getting paranoid about the fact that i'm flippinf more often bc of the lack of kickup. Anyone know how much the hyper 7 will be?

Hey Guys, season's over...time to buy a new car. I'm putting my GTLX up for sale. If you guys look back at page 10 or 11 you should see a bunch of pics of it. It's the white/orange one with the delta force engine and a hitech steering servo. Feel free to make offers...but keep in mind i've invested a LOT of care and a lot of money into this car. So...don't feel bad if i REJECT your offer!! haha i'm attached.
machinehead, I heard that the Collari engines are really good but I have connections in both Japan and Europe so I might see what engine I can get from either source.
I already have the RB EFRA9886 pipe. From what I hear, it's not a bad pipe.
On a similar note, I ported the OS 21RG for more power and it's now a decent engine! I'll have to compare it to a buddy's RB WS7 when I see him next.

Scriber-
I doubt you're fipping due to lack of kickup. The help it provides is minimum to what I've seen.
Firt of all, practice you're jumping. If you're nose diving, make sure you're brake isn't engaging while in flight.(such as running drag) If thats the case give a little more throttle to bring your nose up.
Next-What are you tryng to jump? Is it a single, double, triple, quad? If its a triple, try a different approach. Check your angle. If its a quad, don't try to clear it. Either double double it. Or triple single it. You'll get through much faster.
Another thing you can check is maybe soften your rear suspension. When coming off of the jump your rear may be rebounding pass the front which will cause you to slightly endo and nose dive.
I hope this helps. Good Luck.
I don't know about you guys, but at the end of the race season I clean my buggy up and replace parts as needed. I'm part of the financially deprived crowd and can't afford a new buggy every year. Good luck to you K-DOg.
Hyper 7 I believe is going for like $550
and the 9.5 is suppose to be like $450..

I don't race...i just bash around a makeshift jump...and no matter how flat i land...the front digs in and takes out a clump of grass. It's really unforgiving bc if i don't land fairly horizontal it'll flip. Dang 4-5 bills? I thought Ofna was supposed to be cheap? Does anyone know when the 9.5 is supposed to be released? I think that is a good compromise...unless they drastically reduce the price on the w2.
Can i just use the w2 chassis w/gtlx components? What won't bolt up?
Has anyone noticed that the clearance between the screws on the center diff (that hold the spur to the diff) are really close to the clutch bell? My screws are half gone because of rubbing. I have to mount the engine on the engine mounts the farthest back as u can.
Is there a big difference in acceleration if i switch from the stock 14t clutchbell to say a 17? I mainly run it on pavement, on and off some grass and dirt.

Do you have problems with body roll? Or rolling your buggy?
As far as using the W2 chassis..I'd give PCC an email. He's doing the conversion now. :D
17t clutchbell will give you a higher topend, but you're acceleration will suffer. the 14t will give you better torque and faster accleration off the line while still giving you a decent topend. Of course everything has its limits...So say going too high won't benefit you at all, it would most likely slow you down. What engine do you have? I'm running a 13T on my Ofna\Picco Comp. Great torque and acceleration.

i was told not to lock tight my motor mounts why is that (not the ones that got to the motor :D )
I'm running the W2 chassis under my Ultra GT. Not the best conversion choice out there. I'll wait and see what they do for an upgrade kit to a 9.5 and get that as well.
Basically, you need to replace the chassis, front brace, radio tray, receiver box, and add chassis braces from the front and rear bulkheads to the chassis. All-in-all, I spent $75 for the conversion so far. I had to modify the front upper arms to reduce the front caster angle but a 9.5 suspension will fix that, when that comes out.

I have seen the Hyper 7 at Ultimate hobbies for sale, no word on the 9.5.
Is the hyper 7 made by the same people that make the Monster Pirate? My MP came with instructions for a buggy with a suplement for the MP... forget making your buggy into a MP, make your MP into a buggy! At 259 with engine how can you go wrong?
Lost Racer
08-30-2001, 11:05 AM
Morfeeis-If you locktight the mount screws you'll end up stripping them. They tighten fairly well. If you're haveing a problem with them loosening, get the flat screw mount set from ofna. They come with convcave washers, and will NOT move. Trust me on this. Just don't torque them, its just as bad as locktite. I had to dremel mine out!!! Yeah Loctite and engine mount screws=bad happenings.
PCC-Do you think the buggy ran better stock before the conversion? Or the same?
Scriber
08-30-2001, 11:46 AM
What exactly does the ofna flat screws and concave washers lok like? Do u have p/n?
I had to get a new mount bc 2 of the bolts heads ripped off. $75 isn't bad for some kickup but i think i'm gonna wait for the 9.5 and have a second car when i break things.

Hey guys, I recently acquired a GT LX in a trade. I decided to completely tear it down and go through everything before I ran it. I remember noting that the front and rear "drive bone" were different lengths, and that I should remember which one goes to the front, and which one goes to the back.
But, of course, during the last few days I have forgotten which is which. Could someone please enlighten me?

HEY!!! I just noticed that Tower is selling a Hyper 7 buggy rtr for 509 and 9.5 buggy rtr for 499. Are these the same kits that are on ofna's web site? I didn't know they were going to come rtr?
Lost Racer, I barely ran the Ultra GT with the stock chassis but the thing I remember the most was how the thing would land nose-first and the thing would just stop. With the new chassis if I land nose-first it either keeps going or flips over bad but it does not seem like it hits a wall.
Lost Racer
08-31-2001, 11:28 AM
PCC-Scriber has been having the same problem. I don't know how to say this without sounding rude, but "Don't land nose first!" :D That wasn't so bad...j/k. I know nobody is perfect. Thw W2 chassis is more forgiving..I stumped.. :( :(
Vmax-If they ar different lengths, they'll only fit in one way with the center diff in. If you have one in the wrong place..The diff won't line up with the screw holes in the chassis. :D

I was thinking about getting an OFNA gt lx rtr as my first nitro. Is this a good idea? Is it easy to tune? Good quality radio gear? Does it have kick-up? Is there anything I should know before buying this car?
And most impotantly, is it fast?

Mason Copeland - I myself don't have one, but two of my good friends have the GT LX RTR, and I have driven them, they're great nitros, very solid, plenty fast, I'd say about 50 MPH, but don't quote me on that. and they are also easy to tune.
By the way, there is a kick up front bumber, but I've heard they tend to noise dive, just give it a little more gas when in the air. And the radio is great quality, but another pet peave of my friend is that the steering servo is a little weak, but if your not a hardcore racer, it doesn't really matter.

i took my bellcrank off today and looked at it to see if the springs on it where broke well i really cant tell cause i cant get the dam clutch off. so i gave off not wanting to have to order a new part before i get to run. after i get it all back on my gear just free spins (by hand that is) so before i put the motor back in the car i wanted to know is that right should it just free spins i mean with the gt i had some resistance when i turned it..
OK next up is that ride height screw i told u about Lost, well just like you said there was no set screw in the front lower a arms but they where in the rear (of all places) so i ripped them out of the rear and will be placing them in the front to try and make up for that dam shock problem up there

Bobcat01, if I'm not mistaken, the WII chassis is upturned on the sides while the WI chassis is flat other than the front kick-up.

Anybody else having troubles with your MBX R2? I have two of them, with only a couple of hours between the two. I now have SIX sets of worn out diff bevel gears, and TWO unusable cars. The bevel gears are a very soft, almost "pot" metal. I have not been able to get replacements from my local hobby shop, and have Emailed Ofna THREE TIMES with no response over THREE WEEKS!
I have also had the nut holding the shock piston on 2 rear shock shafts come loose, allowing the shaft to come out of the body, breaking one shaft, and ruining the seals in the other shock. The factory neglected to put thread lock on the shaft nuts!
And one car, (the one that has a little over an hour on it) has completely worn out the front center outdrives, and the front center dogbone.
All this with only a couple hours between the 2 cars!
I have been running Kyosho Inferno series cars for nearly 10 years, with NONE of the above problems.
What's up with Ofna selling junk like this? 10 years ago, the Ofna Pirate was junk, but I was told quality had improved considerably. HA! DON'T THINK SO!!!! The cars are still junk, compared to my Kyoshos.
Anybody else have an opinion on this?

Are you running grease in the diffs or oil? My Worlds II has not had a problem with diffs or center drives. I run the silicone diff fluid, i don't know maybe that is it or the Worlds II has different gears? I beat the hell out of it and the only thing I have broken are shock shafts from jumping way too high. I can't really agree with you on Kyosho products either... maybe the old ones were better quality than the new ones?
As far as the shock shafts coming out. This happened to me when I first built my car. You just need to get a real good grip on those shafts and tighten the nut real tight. To do it you need some "good" pliers and a rag to put over the shaft.
Now for my question. These new buggies, the Hyper 7 and 9.5. I thought that the 9.5 was going to be the competition buggy but Tower has the 7 listed for more money... what's up with that? They show them in the RTR section as on order... 7 = 509.00 & 9.5 = 499.00. Both say RTR. If the 7 is going to be the top dog then I am not going to wait for the 9.5... what's the point? Am I missing something?

HEY MACHINEHEAD.....I packed the diffs with grease, but the stock MBX R2 bevel gears are real soft. The Ultra Worlds 2 bevel gears seem to be a much better metal. The worlds 2 bevels also have a smaller diameter cross shaft, so I could not put Worlds 2 gears in my MBX 2s.
The diffs came from the factory with VERY LITTLE lubricant in them. After just a few minutes of running, both front and rear diffs had become very "notchy". I disassembled the cars, packed the diffs with grease, and shimmed the side bevel gears, but the damage was already done.

LR......the W2 diff bevels will not fit in the R2 diff housings. The cross shaft diameter is different. The cross shaft would fit too loosely in the housing.
I will try the silicone, if I ever get any new gears. I didn't have any sili-diff fluid, so figured grease is better than what it came with....NOTHING. {;-)
I'll figure out how to use this board sooner or later! LOL

Rotorranch-Use the silicone oils..Better results. Like I posted in your other thread, I've only heard about the gear issue. Where did you purchase the cars? Maybe talk to whatever shop you got it from..You could also purchase the worlds 2 rebuild diff kit, it comes with the shafts and gears.
Bobcat01-If you try to convert your buggy by getting a worlds 2 chassis..It will be more of a headache than fun. Go back about a page or so..PCC is doing it with his GTLX. Its not as easy as it sounds....IF you have a P4 engine now, You could just get the piston ans sleeve for the P6 and probably change the head. But by the time you do that you've just about bought a P6..Torsens tranfers power to the wheel with the most contact to the ground. Hmm thats pretty bleak..maybe someone else can elaborate for me..or...

My car was pissing me off today. I noticed that the center bearing in the front and rear gearbox where practically sticking out of the box. I fixed the both. Then i noticed that my wheel hubs were sticking out too...so i fixed those. Then i went out and played for like 5 minutes...and then i noticed that both of the drives coming out of the front tranny were just hanging. So i had to pack up and go home to fix it. Then i came back and plyed for another 20 minutes and after 1 particular 8ft high jump i lost the nuts for my rear shocks. Packed up again to fix it. The i came back and played fo another 15 min and noticed that i had lost a couple of screws on the bottom of my chassis. 1 holding the front gearbox and the other a radio post. Tshen i packed up and went home cuz i didn't wanna break anything else. So i went home to charge my battery pack...and after 45 sec it started smoking and then it actually caught on fire!!! I have no idea what happened but i made the pack myself out of rechargeable nicds.
Is there like a miscellaneous screw set that i can buy to replace the 1's that i lose?

Anyways I have a question about the percantage of nitro you guys are running on your .21 engines. Are all you guys running 20% or 30%? And what type of fuel do you guys use? I recently switched from odonnel to BT race and IMO BT seems to run the engines hotter. I might have to switch back to odonnel.
Portlander

Blue Thunder runs most engines pretty hot, I've heard a lot of crap against them, but I dunno, the only thing that changed when I switched to HPI racing fuel was the heat problem was fixed, which I believe resulted in a little better top end, I don't think BT has enough oil in it.

Hey Lost Racer (and anyone else)
I ahave the stock GTLX shock piston's. Do you recommend the Associated 80 wt for both the front and the rear shocks? If I were to use a different piston front and or rear what would you recommend and with what oil?
Raced my RC10GT and RC10T3 today. I won the GT and got third with the T3 in the A-Mains. I would have to credit the win with luck.
God Bless America!
Well, I pulled out my two speed last week and have been having a ball with the buggy... Problem today.... NOOOO power getting to the wheels.... THought it might be a loose set screw, NOPE, turns out the RTR MBX has cheap DIFF. Bevel Gears... The center Diff is ground down (seriously)...
I've probably got 1.5 hours MAX on this buggy... What gives??
Question:.. Since The two speed removes the center diff and worked fine.... If I were to fill the center diff with 5 minute epoxy (after cleaning it of course, but leaving in the smooth gears), it would LOCK the center diff, but I'd still have front and rear diff action.... Would this not work just as well??
I've heard quite a bit that the center diff is one of the dumbest things to ever be invented... All I ever do is oval racing with it.....
Your thoughts PLEASE (seems gears are VERY scarce)..
Thanks...

KKD: IF you put epoxy in get diff it would lock it. I suggest if the problem persits that you get torsen diffs. They are expensive but you wont EVER break them. If you want you can also get a center diff eliminator from Nuova Faor. you can buy them at National RC (http://www.nationalrc.com/main2.htm).

KKD......I see you too have succumbed to the dreaded Ofna Soft Gear Problem!
I have had continual problems with the bevel gears in the Ofna MBX R2's that I have. 2 cars=6 torn up diffs. I tried ordering gears from the local hobby shop. Three weeks later, still no gears! I Emailed Ofna 4 times over 3 weeks....no response! I called Ofna......got a real person! They sent me new gears. They are supposed to be "new and improved", but they look just like the "old and yucky" gears that came with the car.
Call Ofna, complain, and get new gears for ALL THREE DIFFS, (you will need them!). When you assemble them, use shims from a Kyosho Burns/Inferno part number BS53 to shim behind the large bevel gears. Use the Ofna shims behind the small bevel gears. Use the Kyosho shims behind the diff pinion gear to remove any backlash. Fill the diff with your favorite diff lube, and put some moly lube on the ring and pinion gears, and maybe they will last for a while.
BTW, I have a friend who also has had trouble with his Ofna Diffs, wiping out 4 out of 6 diffs in his, as well as wiping out 2 ring gears. So I don't think this is an isolated problem.
Good luck!

Morf, I will probally be at hot Rod next sunday. (my dad works saturday) hope to see you there if you can make it. About the diffs i would say they need a rebuild, and about the wing, I would not get it. It would bend after you flip it a couple of times and you will get all mad because you spent 60 bucks on a useless "upgrade".

Hopefully the Hyper 7 doesn't suffer from this "Ofna Soft gear" problem. At least I know that the Hyper 7 is made by different company(Hobao) than the the Ofna Ultras GTs, Worlds I,II,III, etc. which are made by Hongnor.

My friends W2 wiped out a ring gear in the front diff, but I think it was because it sheared all the screws in the front diff housing, and that let the gear get loose. The W2 gears seem to be a different grade steel.

I'm about to buy my first nitro buggy but not really sure which one? what's the main differences with the Ultra GT vs. MBX Vs. Worlds? I hear there are some replacements? Hyper 7? I've been reading about stripped gears etc...Just wanna get mine set up with the least problems.

Hi Wayne,
Nice to have you here. I don't know if you've gone through any of the pages in this thread, but there is pretty much an example of every car you just mentioned(except the hyper 7, it has its own thread)I'll do my best to break it down for you.
Ultra GTLX-Oldest-Good Beginner buggy to start with. Comes in RTR and ARR formats. No chassis kickup.
Ultra MBX-Newer version of GTLX. Includes new front suspension(Pillowball) Same chassis as the GTLX.
Ultra MBX R2-latest in the RTR run (excluding Hyper7)Introduces Pillowball suspension to the rear of the buggy as well as the front. And comes in cool carrying case :D And uses the same chassis as the GTLX. No chassis kickup.
Ultra Worlds GT1- I believe first generation of Ofnas competition buggy KITS Nice kit. But the RTR seen got so popular I don't believe Ofna was taken seriously as a competitor like Mugen and Kyosho. Not sure if there is chassis kickup on this one ?? Anyone ever find out?
Ultra Worlds 2-The latest competitionKIT(excluding the 9.5 and Hyper 7). Being around for almost 2 years. Being raced among the Mugens and Kyoshos. Great competitor. Although Ofna has no race team  Awsome buggy if you plan to race. Comes with 2 suspension types. The mugen type and kyosho. You build it to your driving style. This has chassis kickup. What that does is helps you out when landing up jump. It makes the nose diving a little easier.
Parts are usually very easy to find and get. The Hyper 7 is new to the seen and has had raving reviews from those who've driven it. They rate it up there with Kyosho 7.5 and Mugen XRs. But you also have to remember to unleash the ability of the buggy, you first have to learn to drive it. Or, you will not enjoy your experience. NO MATTER WHO MAKES IT!! As far as the soft gear problems go. After talking to a few people, its only been in the R2's from what I've heard. And with a call to Ofna, they'll replace them with stronger ones for you.Rotorranch can clarify that one for me. Well I hope this helped some. Others please feel free to add to where you see fit. Thanks

waynegpchan, Just get yourself a bottle of Nitro Wash. It comes in a squeeze trigger bottle and works really well. Most modern .21 engines don't need lots of tuning unless there is a pretty large weather change since your last running.
Nothing runs like Nitro in the DIRT. :D :D

Wayne, Make sure they have the parts for the storm available before you get it. Did you go to Hobbyworld? When you make you r purchase, be sure to you'll be able to get your parts locally if needed right away. That is a new buggy, so they may not have the needed parts available yet..Unless you don't mind waiting for mail order?

Ofna buggy's need to have the front and rear large bevel gears in the diff's shimmed to stop stripping. I blew both of mine and shimmed them out .035 inch in the rear and .030 inch in the front. I used plastic, oil resistent shims from a local machine shop. They look like thick, shiny pieces of construction paper.Put the bevel gear on the shim and trace it out. Then cut out the now donut shaped shim. Trim it to exact fit with a dremel and drill the 4 holes for the screws. The shim goes between the gear and the diff unit screw holes.I also had to exchange the six soft screws that hold each diff to the chassis as well as the 4 screws that hold the diff cover with stainless steel machine screws (fine threads, slightly wider). These soft screws bend slightly and allow the diff housing to flex, causing the diff gears to only make contact with the very end of the teeth. This will strip even the hardened gears. So save your money on hardened gears, and try the previous remedies.I run a very powerful(but inconsistent)Novarossi and I have not stripped any more gears in about a year now. Good luck fellow Ofna owners.

Hey all....
I put 5 min epoxy in the center diff, then I cleaned the front and back diff's and put one large 'washer' behind one of the large gears in each diff... WHAT a difference!!! This thing FLIES again.... YESSSS!!!!

KKD......how ya going to put new gears in your center diff when it's stuffed full of Epoxy??? I have found that the diff gears will need to be shimmed when you assemble them with the new gears. I use Kyosho BS-53 shim set to shim the gears. I usually use one large Kyosho shim behind each large bevel gear, and ons stock Ofna shim behind each of the 4 small bevel gears. Assemble the unit with no lube in it to check the mesh. If it's too tight, take one shim from behind one of the large bevels. After you get the mesh right, fill the unit with your favorite diff lube, and reassemble it. You will also need to set the "backlash" on the ring and pinion gears. I have found that it may take as many as 3 or 4 Kyosho shims behind the pinion gear to get good mesh. Then smear a light coat of moly grease on the ring and pinion, and assemble the diff case. You should be ok then. Hope this helps!

Well, I dont plan on using a center diff.... I'm going to leave it solid..... (nice flywheel....LOL)...... Anyways, I'm going to use the old ones until they're toast (pretty close now) and then just use the new ones front and back.... I'll keep the center 'new' one as a 'spare'.....
Yes, I plan on shimming them ALOT to make sure that there is no play whatsoever.....
Thanks.....

I'm nearly done rebuilding my GTLX and building my new W2 kit. I noticed that the gtlx has different differential housings then the W2. The diff housings in the gtlx are a lot less messy when filling up w/oil. Additionally, regarding the play problem, with the gtlx there isn't any bc ofna assembled it with a washer on the pinion. The W2 kit didn't include this shim, you have to buy it in a shim kit.
The W2 kit. I first noticed that it's very very similar to the MP7.5. I spent almost 20 hrs. assembling it. It's a very complicated kit. It's actually really neat looking, i almost don't want to run it. I especially like the four brakes instead of 2. It comes w/front and rear torque rods which i thought was cool. The parts are very good quality and it looks like i won't break anything for a long time. However, my kit came w/the wrong bearings for the output shafts on the diffs. Additionally, the kit comes w/a set of alloy lower arm stiffners for the front and back. However, they included only 1 set of arm shafts that are long enough to accomodate the extra width the brace adds. I called ofna and they said that i have to buy another set of long arm shafts. I thought this was really wierd. Why include it if ur not going to include shafts that will make it fit.
I'm still trying to decide on an engine for the W2. i want something in the $135-170 range. I want something reliable. Any thoughts? I was thinking about the Ofna Hyper .21, ofna pico sport, O.S. RG.

Additionally, I think i still might have to cut the crank shaft cuz it's too long. Scriber.....Moef's "RX" is an older O.S. .21 RX-B or RX-R. It is NOT a pull start motor! It's a full tilt competition engine, similar to the newer, now dicontinued RV series. It is a little confusing. I think Morf is not sure if it's an RX-B (buggy) or RX-R (on road). It would be a little clearer if he could post the whole model designation. I know a lot of the posters here may not be old enough to know of the RX- series engines.

ranch sorry don't mean to mislead anyone but i also don't know if it is an rx-b or RX-? all I know is that it has turned my w2 in to a land rocket I placed the OS RG (I have 3 motors trq.21 RG and RX) the OS RG was a bit harder to get the gear mesh right I had to mess with the motor mounts a lot to get it to sit right.
there or 2 types of RG there is an RG (P) pilot shaft i have the RG regular shaft it fits but have fun getting that mesh right

I know you didn't mean to confuse anyone Morf......but seems like a lot of folks think when you post RX they immediately think pull start, or a .12 pull start. I was trying to clarify for tham, since I'm an old enough fogey to know what the RX-B or RX-R is. And I have been running them for about 10 years! Both of my RX-Bs now need a rebuild. Tower finally has piston and sleeves in stock again, so I will be getting them back off the road as soon as I scrape up $160 +. ( I already have rods and bearings.) ;)

I have another question...when you turn the crank by hand...usually on other engines i just feel it hit Top dead center and then go back down smoothly...on this engine...i feel it go to tdc and then click and then go down. Does anyone know what i'm talking about. I might just be paranoid. It's just that i'm this close to returning it and getting a RZ. By the way...how much faster is the RZ? Scriber: I do not know what that click is but you might want to take the head off the head to see if everything is ok in there. You might be talking about the little pop type thing that happens when the piston goes a micrometer past TDC. Not exaclty shure. If it is what i think it is, it is just the pressure going down. Who knows.
Scriber
10-02-2001, 02:22 AM
It's not the pressure(psftt sound). When you hit the spot i'm talking about...it clicks and holds itself there and you can't turn it either way w/o adding more pressure.
I would rather not touch the internals of the engine. You could say i'm afraid of messing anything up cuz i read somewhere that if you don't know what your doing, don't take the head off.

I normally run all my R/C's with the body off because of the temp difference. With 260-275 without 220-230. To tell you the truth I dont believe people when they say there buggy runs at 210 at full throttle or what ever. I was at a track when I asked this guy what temps his 7.5 runs at with the body on and of course he said 205. So I watched him drive around the track and after 4 laps his car started to heat up and kept shutting off but he still claimed it was 205. Does anyone have this problem ? I have never seen and engine run that low when it has been tuned good,Im not talking when it is loaded up all the time .

Morf, I have the rear cvd's in stalled and couldn't tell any difference. I also bought the centers but haven't put them in yet. I don't really expect anything out of them I just like to have all the cool stuff for my cars. I did buy the cnc rear shock tower and it looks nice and I am going to get the front too. They have a bunch of extra holes for mounting the shocks and they just seem much stronger and nicer. I also ordered a center torsen so I will let you know how that goes as well. I was going to sell my worlds II and buy either the hyper7 or the Kyosho but last week I did much better at the track and I decided that the problem is me... not the car. I also got the teflon shock pistons. I pulled mine apart and found little metal shavings embeded in the stock pistons, the teflon seem much better.
For some reason I have trouble cutting inside on high speed corners, but I think I just need to play with the suspension more. Any ideas? I removed my front stablizer and that seemed to help.

That's funny, Morf.....my friends W2 fired off backwards the other night! First time I've seen that happen on a nitro car.  :D
A two stroke engine has no idea which way it's running. They will run as good backwards as they will forwards. Back when I was racing motorcycles, I saw a guy get push started on a small bore bike. The thing lit off backwards, and about threw the kid over the bars as it tried to run over the guy pushing it! It was too funny!!!

Morf.....nothing really went wrong........A two stroke doesn't care which way it runs! This thing just happened to light up backwards. I noticed the tires were rolling backwards, so I shut it off and restarted it. No harm, no damage. I have never seen one change directions, though!

Ohhhh k... just bought the worlds2 and ready to start building it but before i do so does anyone know what weight is the shock oil does it come with? and is it supposed to come with excel tires because the picture on the box show different ones.
And also is the clutch the same as the one on the Ultra GT?? I didnt bother taking out the ultra gt clutch on my engine because i'll be using the same engine before i buy a new one. Or should I just take it out and replace it with the worlds2 clutch.
Thanks

Just to be safe I would change em up the clutch on my MP and the one on my W2 or different (I know MP vs buggy but that is the only help I could give ya)..
now for my turn i think i need new pistons for my buggy i have absolutely no damping it feels like my springs or the only thing keeping my buggy of the ground. i was talking to a guy at HRH yesterday while ordering some parts (they could not find the Teflon pistons anyone have a part#) and while complaining this other guy in the shop (who i found out has a mbx with busted diffs) told me to try and put a screw in one of the pistons (i laughed too) well going off that (board and not being able to run is very dangerous) i put epoxy in one of the whole on my pistons and it helped a bit but did not give me the effect i want. my Q is dose your buggy have a lot of damping are or they light on there feet

If any of you are interested. I bought a brand new worlds II but at the same time I traded another car for a "like new" but used worlds II so now I have 3. The used one is so nice I am going to keep it and sell the new one. I have not even opened the box, it is still sealed.

Geeze Morf....put heavier oil in the shocks! Way easier than changing pistons! It probably needs changing anyway, eh? ;)

Hey guys... my center diff seems to be leaking oil a bit... the oring for the diff doesnt seem to seal it that well.. is there any other way i can prevent some oil from leaking?? but the weird thing is my rear and front diffs are fine... and my center diff is not broken because its a brand new kit.
Thanks

check to see if there is any cracks or cuts along the edge of he case and put a new O-ring seal on.
no cracks or cuts and i replaced the o ring already... maybe i should put 2 o rings ..i dont know just want to finish this damn kit already :D

Which o ring? the big one where the housings meet, or the little one that the shaft goes through? If its the big one I would try and make sure its not twisted.
machinehead--- its the big o ring...but it looks like its not leaking anymore
Also what do you guys recommed for the worlds2 front suspension setup... should i use the pivot ball setup or the regular hub setup...morf or lost racer what front suspensions work well for you guys??

Hi all!
I've been sidetracked with other projects and I still haven't run my brand new MBX R2 that i've had since July! :(
I am absolutely going to get it running and break it in this week so I can rip this weekend and I have a question:
Do I need to add diff oil or are the diffs lubed from the factory? Awhile back I was talking to a guy at Nitrohouse and he says to use 5000wt in the front, 7000wt in the center and 10000wt in the rear. Sounds good to me but as long as the diffs are safe from damage, I'd like to run a few tanks through it first to see what a difference the new oils will make.
Please give me some advice... BTW - my car is the ARR version not the RTR version.
Thanks
Jay

The diffs are definitely NOT LUBED from, the factory! And the spider (bevel) gears in the diff are not shimmed properly from the factory. Also, the ring and pinion gears in the diffs need to be shimmed properly, as well. You need to disassemble all three diffs before you run the car,and properly lube and shim them, or you will destroy the soft metal gears in the diffs!
Also, take the shocks apart and loctite the nuts on the shock shafts holding the shock pistons. Otherwise the nut will back off the shaft, and the shock will come apart, damaging the seals or shafts.
Read through the older posts on this thread for more information!

where do I get the shims? Nitrohouse never heard of this problem and doesn't have any shims

Awhile back I was talking to a guy at Nitrohouse and he says to use 5000wt in the front, 7000wt in the center and 10000wt in the rear.
You want the thickest in the center, thinnest in the rear and the "middle" in the front. For the weights you gave you'd want 7k in front, 10k in the middle, and 5k in the rear (may be a bit thick for some tracks).

Hey guys, I'm not new to R/C cars but I am new to Nitro! I recently purchased a Ultra GT LX RTR and have been learning the ropes of nitro the last couple of weeks. I decided on the RTR Ultra GT LX because it was much cheaper than some of the other, more seriously competitive racers. I wanted to start out small so I can learn the basics before I go crazy with the cash$$$ Does anybody race their Ultra GT LX at their local tracks?? If so, how does it hold up to the competition? I switched out the radio (Blazer) for an Futaba FM 3PDF and added a metal gear High torgue steering servo. Other than a faster motor, what are some upgrades I can add to make the car more competitive??? Has anyone had any problems with theirs that I should look out for??? Also, does anybody know for sure if their is an upgrade kit that would make it a Worlds 2???:D

Hey Guy's!
I emailed Ofna and asked about the conversion kit for the Ultra GT LX to make it a Worlds. They emailed me this part number for the kit- 36000. I hope this helps those who are interested! I have emailed Ofna quite a few times now and they always reply within a day or so with the answer!

Rotorranch,
Could you tell me more about shimming the gears? I will have my diff oils tomorrow and i want to do this right. What do you use for shims?
I hate the format of these "vehicle forums". If each vehicle had their own forum instead of a huge thread, I could do a search for the info.... unfortunately I don't have 3 hours to read through a bajillion posts.... So thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out!
BTW - before I got a reply to my original question, I ran 2 tanks through the MBX R2... I hope I didn't hurt anything. I'm breking in the engine so i took it pretty easy... this sucker rips though:D
thanks

Wow, so much info. Got some great stuff from this thread. My question is for anyone who has ran both the OS RG .21 and the OFNA super force 6 port. What are your thoughts on these two engines. LIke disadvantages and advantages. Both have same power, one have more?? I will be getting the MBX r2, and am stuck between which of these two engines to get. Thanks guys!

Big Wig....I used Kyosho BS-53 shims for the diff. It will probably take two packs.I think Ofna also has a diff shim set, but I have not used it, and can't find the part number now.

Rotorranch,
thanks for the info... I just ordered the Kyosho shim set (2 packs).
I started tearing down the car yesterday (remember I ran 2 tanks through it) and the diffs felt fine but as I removed the front end, the shocks fell apart like you said they would;(
I hope they're not wrecked! I must admit, I think that when my car is done it will be a lot of fun but I'm not too happy with Ofna for producing an ARR buggy that needs its diffs and shocks disassembled right off the bat.
There will be snow here soon (already had some serious flurries the other day!) and I really want to get this thing out on my track and have some fun with it before the white stuff comes!
I hope I can get it sorted out
thanks again
Jay

Why would snow stop u from running? I hope it snows here so I can run my MP and the w2 in the snow just make sure the rx box is water tight

Thanks for the heads up on the upgrade kit there have been a lot of people here looking for that (even if they don't post)

i cant telkl u about the ofna p6 but i can tell u that the RG is one killer motor it yanks my MP around all day and is not that hard to tune once u get it right for your area and.
car. no matter what motor u pick u will love ur car..
and taco if i where u i would stay away from the mbx r2 a lot of people have had problems with the diffs i say get a brand new worlds 2 off e-bay and build it yourself it's a great car and now cost less then the mbxr2 and mbx.

Hey guys,
I've got an Ultra GT LX, and it's running great! But I have noticed the "Worlds II Blowout" on E-bay. Do you guys think it is worth upgrading? Will I actually notice a difference, other than the car would be much cleaner!? :D

morfeeis,
I can't see my buggy handling too well in the snow... maybe when we have that real crusty layer of snow I'll take it for a rip :D
Well, I've lock-tited my shock shafts and put in new shock oil... I'm pretty impressed with the shocks! I like the way they hold the seal-pack in the bottom of the shock body with a snap ring. I'm used to the associated shocks so this is new to me. Also, when I filled the shocks and pumped the shock shaft to purge the air, it actually seemed to remove the air instead of adding it ;) Then, when I filled the shocks all the way and put the cap on I pumped it several times then pushed it in to check the rebound and it was perfect on every shock the 1st try. I opened one back up when i was done and the fluid was still crystal clear... no bubbles! I love my RC10 GT but I like my Ofna shocks better!
I also took apart my front and rear diffs, cleaned them and filled them with fresh silicone diff fluid... 7000wt front and 5000wt rear. All I have left to do is the center diff and I'm ready to run again!
Rotorranch, I fooled around with the diffs for awhile and I saw no reason to shim them. I tried adding or removing shims here and there and it always made the diff bind. Maybe my car was put together correctly from the factory!
I'll post a report after I get this thing out on my track
regards
Jay

Cool Jay! Maybe you got lucky with your diffs. I used one or two shims behind the large bevel gears in the diff, depending on the mesh. I also neede to add a couple shims behind the pinion gear in the diff to set the back lash on the ring and pinion. You might want to check that before you mount the diff case to the chassis, after assembling the cases.
Good luck!

I was looking into getting the MBX as stated earlier, but i couldnt pass up the worlds 2 on ebay. Any tricks to setting this bad boy up? Im just going to be putting the os rg in it. Thats plenty of power for me. Gotta love a full out bag of parts that you assemble yourself. :)
MightyTaco- I just finished building mine but havent had a chance to run it yet. Looks really nice too :D . What you need is some diff oil. They provide you some grease but its not enough for all 3. So i suggest you go out and buy some. The weight of the oil i put in mine was 3,000 rear, 7000 center and 1000 front. Other than that everything else should be ok. Well have fun building.

Thanks rolo, ill do just that. I have some 30,000 and 100,000 (mugen's funky scale), so ill pick up some more. The diffs seal up good?
ya the diffs seal up ok.. I had a problem with one of them because the big o ring broke.. so just becareful when you seal it up because that o ring is really thin.
Hey all..... I traded my .21 powered T maxx for some cash and a brand new in the box OS RZ-V99 engine and was wondering if anyone has this engine in their OFNA buggies???.....
If you do, did you have to do anything special???

I have a brand new O.S. .21 RZ-V99 motor that I need to sell because I bought it when I needed the money for bills. It only has 2 tanks through it, so it still needs to be broken-in,when I decided to pull it out of my Ofna Ultra worlds Gt.It has a Novarossi one peice pipe and header.I paid about 300.00 for it
