I didnt see one so I figured Id start one.I have had mine for just over a month and the Ive placed 4th in the B main so far with a OLD paradox. It had failed on me last round so Ididnt do so good. The magnets came off and gave the arm a hug.In a second round qual I got hit and didnt notice the pinion hit the can and it got HOT! thats why the magnets came off.My fault.I bet it doesnt happen again..

Yeah, I have had the one I bought for my daughter for about 2 months, I really have not got the chance to race mine much either. It took me a while to even set it up. But now that it is set up, its a great little truck for the buck. I have a reedy rage in mine, and the think kicks butt.

Did you guys see the Car action with the Evader??They said it can compete in stock truck only??????It wont be able to in Mod??????This is funny due to the fact that they always say it depends on the driver and set up???No they didnt say it exactly like that but they might as well of done it.Man I like the mag. but what they are saying is you "MUST" have these "stiff" chassis and parts to be with the "IN" crowd.Even if this is to be true which I dont know beings I havent tried mod in it yet not that I want to beings it isnt as much fun as stock. And cheaper to boot.Im just wanting to know what fellow Evader owners thinnk about the BS article.

Well I am gonna race in whatever class they put me in, I don't care about what others say about the flexible parts. Once I get the money, I will get a P2K 2 Pro motor and run stock.

I own two Evaders! It's kinda an odd story but here goes...

I bought my first Evader last week (first RC car ever), came from my LHS complete with a battery and charger and went home and charged the battery, took it outside (just above freezing with no snow on the ground) and had a pretty good time learning to drive it for about 5 minutes before I lost control and went over a curb and hit a parked car just under the bumper. The impact broke several pieces of the front suspension (bulkhead, shock tower, and a couple others... about $25 worth of damage)

Well, I took it apart and sorted through the broken pieces all of which were ST parts and covered under the warranty so I sent them in to get replaced (still waiting for parts). I went back to my LHS and asked if he had parts, he said 'not yet' and so after a little internal debate I bought the second one he had! At the very least I'd have some spare parts!! I intend on putting the first one back to together though...

That's why I have two trucks!

I bashed my second truck around for several battery packs at the local RC indoor carpet track (not meant for offroad trucks) it had 4 inch high plywood borders surrounding the track, most of the time I was plowing over them though while the road cars were tearing the track up... I guess the servo arm couldn't take it and it finally gave out but other than that, no damage... One of the guys had a spare Futaba servo arm that fit so it wasn't a big deal.

I like my Truck!! :)

The ball diff was too lose from the factory and I found the included instructions for adjusting the slipper clutch and ball diff a little confusing and so I searched the internet and found an article that makes sense, here it is...

http://www.rc-car.com/detail.asp?id=99

Anyways, when I get my first truck fixed I'm going to take it to the local RC track and let people race it against my other one. I plan on making some plywood tabletops and other off road type obstacles to throw onto the track so it'll be fun to use my trucks. A couple of the guys there have E-maxx's...

That is kind of funny.

Get this though. I was driving my truck doing like 4-5 foot jumps in the air, and i was just bashing it into everything, broke a gearbox case and servo brace. Got free ones, but in the meantime, my LHS owner was nice enough (which he always is) to help me out and lend me some new parts to replace my other while I was waiting, even though the LHS's are never involved in the warrany. He said when I get the new parts back, give them to him, and he will refund me for the parts, but the bad thig is, he didn't have the parts in. But now I have it running, it is just sitting on my shelf waiting till Jan 6 for it's and my first race.

Man it is cool to have people like that to look towards. Now remember drive smooth and dont worry about winning.Take every and I mean every race as a learning experience.I am still learning and it has been a year since I started racing.Im starting to get into the A mains with my FTB3 buggy and in my Evader Ive been getting into the B's with my wonderful Evader. And I did that with 100% stock equipment. Now Im learning more about the truck the better Im getting. Now it is time to change things up and do some suspension changes and shock oil and springs.I wish you the best in you racing Mike.

P.S. rememberwhen your stuck against the boards you got your self there and not the marshall.

Yes, luckily someone that is going to be racing with me is gonna pit withe me and help me out with racing. We already discussed just about having fun, not winning, just wanting to win will get me nowhere.

I was wondering, because at my lhs they race on road only and I race in the novice class and hardly anyone races there, would the car be likly to break.

12-25-2001, 12:04 AM
Maybe if you hit the boards real hard. I have had no real problem with durability.

I won't have to worry about reverse now because I can dial it out with my JR XR3.

Take out the motor connectors and directly solder the motor wires to motor, besides that nothing really. Just maybe some cool looking blue parts because I like blue.

-mike Im sorry if they had firm foams they might be better...The ones that are in there are so soft they dont seen like there even there.I think they made them that way due to the stiffness of the springs to help soak up some lil bumps..The rims are brittle so be careful.

pudder
12-25-2001, 12:18 PM
Oh, Take the foams out, and now squeeze them, big difference!

I don't care about the rims now because I am going to be carpet racing with foam tires so I just have to worry about the faomies.

How do you take the photon motor apart, do you have to bend the little tabs on the can because I want to just make it so I can take it off with two screws if possible.

2nd Gear, basically on carpet right now. Our indoor carpet racing track is only about 4 feet wide with lots turns and a couple straight aways... My truck handled it pretty well, but I'd like to be able to make sharper turns, if I miss a corner I usually end up going right over the 4" barrier (that's how I broke my servo arm last week after a couple batteries packs worth...)

Is there a brake on these trucks? Does it brake during that slight pause before going into reverse? I noticed it slowed down faster when I pushed the trigger forward and let go before it went into reverse. Can I adjust that? Can I disable reverse??

A guy at my local car club has extra parts for Losi XXT and I heard that they are compatible with the Evader? I'd like to get my broken truck up and running, what would be involved with putting on the Losi parts? It's the front bulkhead, shock tower, brace and bumper that's broken. Any suggestions?

I'm making some plywood table tops to take to my local carpet track, something that can be easily moved and stored. I'm also trying to think of a way to make some rough track, moguls? A couple of the guys there have stadium trucks, it should be interesting.

You want rough track...

Try taking pieces of 2x4 wood and placing them under carpet, that makes it a little bumpy.

I just kinda helped someone buying a truck today, they pretty much had their mind set on an Evader at my LHS, and I told them about the parts gaurantee, and stull like that to make them more confident in a good choice.

Well not so much tricks, but tips.

-Ball diff much too loose out of factory.
-Take out the motor wire connectors and solder wires directly, keep the connector covers on so the wires dont touch after soldered.
-Servo saver was a bit too loose.
-Pinion setscrew needs threadlock.
-Could paint lexan gear cover to match paint scheme.

I pretty much know nothing, I'm two weeks into this hobby! I know about the ball diff and slipper clutch adjustment that has to be made, I found the easy answer to that here...

http://www.rc-car.com/detail.asp?id=99

I've been looking through some RC car magazines and see some awesome bodies and tires/rims, will other bodies and tires/rims fit on the Evader?

on the subject of indoor offroad tracks, I was thinking about making a section of track out of paper mache molded with 2x4's and stuff underneith and then putting acrylic on top and painting it. Does that sound like it would work? ex: a 5 x 4 foot section of moguls and ruts to add to our indoor carpet track... maybe even a banked corner.

I've already designed a couple of plywood table tops I'm gonna start making.. :)

I live in Saskatchewan, it's cold and snowy here so I wanna do some indoor stuff on the cheap.

Pudder, which ones the pinion?

What does soldering the wires directly do?

-KS

Eric Gharakhanian
12-27-2001, 08:17 PM
knightshift soddering the wires directly gives them a better contact than the standard bullet connectors. I don't think It's worth it though because you have to go through the hassel of splicing and re soddering a new wire when you want to change the motor, I would just use a power pole or deans connector if you are concerned. The pinion Is the smaller gear by the way. I don't have an evader but this is just standard stuff.

2nd Gear
12-27-2001, 08:29 PM
the wheels from a losi XXT or XXXT work on the Evader. And alot of parts for the XXT from Losi also fit.The slipper pad from a Associated B3orT3 will work instead of the stock piece. Now bodies I dont know Im hopin the new MF XXXT body fits.:D

pudder
12-28-2001, 12:48 PM
It would help if I had a picture, but the pinion is the little gear on the motor, that turns the spur gear (the big one). The setscrew in the pinion is the little hex screw that holds it on the motor shaft, and threadlock is stuff you can put on them so they wont fall out or loosen. If you are going to get threadlock, you on't have to, just get some blue strength, red is too much.

Also, NEVER use CA (tire) glue for screws, as you will not be able to get them off later on, I learned this the hard way.

Oh Ya, to get the proper gear mesh, place a little piece of paper in between teh spur and pinion while the motor screws are loosened so you can adjust it. Now squeese the two gears together tight with your hand, and tighten up the motor screws so that it is in place, now pull the paper out of the gears. It also shows how to do this in the start up video I think.

Hmmm, how come my other reply isn't showing up here...

Pinion is little gear attatched on the motor shaft that turns the bigger one (spur).

Soldering the wires, and not having the connectors will give a better flow of electricity, more power, also sometimes the connectors can get really hot.

Well I am only 13 and this is about my 4th hobby grade vehicle. That doesn't matter, I am here to help.

If you think you overheated your esc, put your hand on it, if it feels overwarm, then just unplug your truck, or you could wreck your esc. My ESC has only gotten warm when I soldered a wire on the wrong place which I quickly figured out. Make sure your wires arent soldered to the same tabs as the capacitors are. Just let it cool down, and try again later. On my Sprint ESC, it will cut out when the batts get really low. Nothing to worry about.

Are all these people driving their trucks out in the cold or something?

On the Evader thread in Electric Forum, someone said that DuraTrax had some kind of defect in the part. You could easily make a new front skidplate.

I don't know how you guys break all this ****, I have barely broken anything, just from being stupid is why I broke some stuff, but it wasn't the front end.

Like I said in a different thread, the Evader has parts meant to flex, and when cold, becoming brittle, thus flex causing them to snap.

-mike

KnightShift
12-29-2001, 03:19 PM
I dont think that's the definitive answer, I still think there is some kind of defect with the bulkhead...

I broke my first Evader in above zero weather (32 degrees) with no snow on the ground. Yet, I've been out with my second Evader at -15 (5 degrees) and haven't broke anything... Either way though, I still like my Evader(s) :)

Check this out.I changed my oils in my shocks. It was dailed!I had alot of fun with but I failed to get the slipper just right??I had to use my finger to get her around the track smoothly.I use Losi reds up frnt. and losi pinks out back.25wt frnt-27 1/2 in the back.It works real good.Well then my day went all to hell.In the main (I made the B because I had false peaks and grabbed the wrong battery once) I qualed 7th lowest i done yet with my P2K2pro powered Evader.Im driving and realize my front end is sitting REAL low.Bouncing drifting to the left like mad.So i have the marshall hand it to me and the bottom shock mount broke??????????????It is the piece that connects the shock to the arm so I asked him to put it back on the track and said "what else can go wrong it break on me!!"Well 1 turn and 1 jump later it did just that. Now heres where I get a lil ticked at Duratrax. Why the hell couldnt they put a aluminum hinge pin brace in it!!!!!My god its like they want to replace parts for you for a FULL year.I will be either making a hinge pin brace or seeing if the XXT one fits but oh well Ill be getting my free part.I will reccomend you guys ditch the arm mounts on the shock to RPM Losi pieces.I was lucky to have not bent a shock shaft.Oh yeah The lil plastic hinge pin brace is why you guys/gals are having problems with the bulkheads.Mine is in 3 pieces..It was funny because alot of us guys were talkin about what all we broke today and this thing happened to be my biggest.EVERY BRAND of car broke??????????Go figure. Some cars broke 3 out of 4 heats

pudder
12-31-2001, 12:06 PM
Ya, your ESC can shut down my getting too hot. Avoid getting it hot. Solder the wires direct, no connectors. I have some Pro-Line/JACO fams for my Evader too, but they are the ones with different rims, I will post a pic.

I like the fact that DuraTrax offers a variety of decals for different bodies, now I can use them on other bods for my Evader. :) I put a DuraTrax decal on my chassis so people won't think it is a Losi.

Though I do want low ground clearance, the foam tires do wear, and thus would make my truck bottom out against the carpet. Otherwise if it was a bit higher with my small shocks, I'd use them, but I don't want to wreck the track, so I am just going to keep stock shocks on there. I have them at lowest setting though.

Mike has a good point about soldering the wires to the motor direct but I use no-loss connectors (powerpole) from duratrax. They only add a marginal amount of heat but it isnt going to contibute to your esc shuting down.Just another opinion...:D

12-31-2001, 03:45 PM
True, but I like to get an excuse to practice up on my soldering, I have only been sucessfully doing it for about beginning of school year, early September.

Im new to RC and was wondering if the Evader ST is good for a beginner? Do you get more for your money? Is it good to race, durable, and dependable? And is it upgradeable?

Thanks,

Bgjoe...
If you wanted to have Masher 2000's, you would want to gear down the pinion to about a 19 or 18 tooth probably. Dirt Hawgs, you can just leave the gearing alone. I would more reccoment Dirt Hawgs or Dirt Works.

Some hop-ups you may want to buy first...

You could get different tires and rims (the tires that it comes with are impossible to get off the rims). There is aluminum hop-ups that you can get. You could also get different colored plastic parts for the truck.

It is highly upgradeable.

Evan...
I am not a beginner, and have one. The Evader ST is targeted towards beginners. It is the best thing out there currently for RTR electric Stadium truck, and you get well worth your money. DuraTrax also has great service, and I live in Canada, and they had my parts back within 2 weeks!

People that have raced the Evader have said they have done very well too, without any upgrades.

I hope this helps both of you.

Mike and his mom went to the local hobby shop to see a new truck that Mike liked. He wanted it for Christmas, and wanted to make sure he would stand by that opinion.

"Wow, that sure is a good truck for the price," said Mike after his mom and he left the shop.

"Well you know you have enough money for this in your bank account?" replied his mom.

"Really?" asked Mike.

"Yes, we could walk back and buy one," said his mom.

So they walked back to the shop and bought a nice blue truck.

This was a true story.

Thanks Alot,

Here is some good news everyone!

Mr. Schlichting,

Hello! I am Jeff Noffsinger, the Development Manager for Duratrax. I received the comment at the bottom of this e-mail from you via our Duratrax webpage.

We are always looking for ways to improve existing products after their initial release. We are looking into this on the bulkhead and several other components on the Evader ST right now.

We would love to offer some stiffer parts for racing. We are also looking into this at this time.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your concerns. If you have any further comments, questions, or concerns, feel free to contact me. My contact info is below:

Best Regards,

Jeff Noffsinger
Development Manager - Duratrax

What I wrote...
*************
Many people have told me that the DuraTrax Evader ST ftont bulkheads are very easily broken. Is there a factory defect in them? DuraTrax should make replacement bulkheads standard for new production Evaders so that people won't experience this problem. Also, DuraTrax should offer some stiffer plastic parts for racers, because people are racing the Evader ST.

Thank you for making a great truck.

i took a tooth off of the idle gear. I think it was from going in reverse then going forward fast. owell. I will get that replaced and i am also going to get 2 more batts and a speed gem 19t double for the evader. I am getting brushes for the photon speed motor that is included with the evader becasue one is really, really, really worn down and the other is fine.

If there is one tooth missing, buy another one for spare, because just keep running with the damaged one because only 1 tooth is gone, and more will probably follow, so just buy another one to replace it for when the first one is dead.

man, this evader has a skinny chassis, theres like no room for electronics! i just got my futaba 330 and that thing didnt even fit! so i had to dremel out part of the "lip" on the battery tray. now it fits good! I have an mvp...do you think i have any chance in racing? im a pretty good driver, i also got a new blue aluminum front brace and battery strap. im planning on getting a new mod motor, do you think that the speed gems 16 triple is a good deal? thanks if you answer to any of this!:)

pudder
01-08-2002, 09:15 AM
Get used to it because all racetrucks have "skinny" chassis. I fit all my stuff on there fine, my ESC is on the shock tower of the rear and my reciever is where the rtr one was.

You have lots of chances to race, and win too. I am not the best driver and beat a whole lot of trucks at my first race, and my truck was stock, except I had a large pinion in.

-mike

jdm3849
01-08-2002, 02:38 PM
what batteries where you using? because those batteries in the backround dont look like the kind of batteries that would last 5 minutes not peaked with a 27 tooth pinion! also the t3s chassis is alot wider, my friend can fit his big ipc pro sport with enough room to spare,my futaba is almost 1/2 the size and it still doesnt fit in mine.

I finally broke down and registered so I could post on this forum. I've been following the discussion for some time. I thought you were all nuts breaking the front bulkhead with such repitition like I was seeing on the forum here. However, it finally happened to me, I was racing my nephew and barely hit the back of his truck at maybe 1/4 throttle and trashed the left side of the front bulkhead. It was about 25 degrees out when it happened. Needless to say the parts are on order from Duratrax right now, I'm very bummed. I thought I was going to be exempt. I need to ask you all, what is the truck that the parts are almost a match with? I want some new wheels/ tires and possibly tougher shocks, any suggestions would help.

DanzST
01-09-2002, 12:17 PM
I need to ask another question. Has anybody else noticed that the front a-arms can flex past the where the bulkhead attaches? Point being, is that this allows the truck to "bottom-out" in the front when coming down from a jump, that is if you land front first (not the best way to land). Does anyone have advice on how to "harden" the front suspension so it won't "bottom-out" so easy and the rear for that matter as well?

DanzST
01-09-2002, 04:01 PM
O.K. So I've been bored at work today and have had nothing to do today, but try to figure out a way to fix this "bulkhead" problem. I've been looking at the Losi XXT and Evader parts diagram on the net. It appears that they have an almost identical design, however, I'm not sure the XXT has a modular design like the ST or is it one piece? Has anyone tried to put the XXT bulkhead on an ST? Are there any strength problems with the XXT bulkhead? Would you have to switch out the entire front end to get it to work? Gimme some feedback on this one. And yes I'm still getting my work done.

ameittunen
01-09-2002, 04:30 PM
i live in hibbinf mn. well the treets are kinda slushy. If the warm weather keeps up, i can test the full speed of the speed gem but it probably wont get dry cuz it will snow agiain i think before it all melts and gets dry but u never know. I can test out the acceleration in my house and the torque of the motor as well.

Buck
01-09-2002, 04:42 PM
you can use losi tires, rims any 2.2 rim or tire should fit. I have heard of a guy using the losi front bulkhead and he said how he did it it is in this thread or the other evader st thread under electric forums. I know you can use the losi bodys i think i know the xxx-t mf body fits and looks great

pudder
01-09-2002, 05:23 PM
I have yet to break a bulkhead. If you stiffen up your suspension, you can prevent bottoming out in jumps, that simple. I have rammed stuff full throttle, accidently hit a marshall at full throttle in the leg, no damage. I have also hit other trucks, chairs (flew off track) and just crasked the bumper a bit, but I am not going to worry about that.

01-10-2002, 06:26 PM
This might be long so bear with me.I know I type big posts.Well I put in a XXT front bulkhead. It needs some triming. At the bottom where the pin goes thru.I havent tried it on the track yet I will on Sat.The XXT blkhd. is different at the top mounting point then the Evaders it has a design that looks like the bottom of the Evaders. So it isnt a direct fit.I used a old shock shaft to put in there to hold on to some zip ties. Now you think oh yeah this is the most dummest thing someone has posted but I am here to tell you it is solid!I was thinking about making a L shaped bracket to mount it like the evader bulkhd. but i gave the ol' trusty zip tie a try first beings it was the quicker solution.Ill give a update after this weekend...Keep your fingers crossed for me????

Now for some really good info for you!!!!!

I had got a titanium topshaft for my FTB3 and also a alum. Idler gear for it also. After I was done with the conversion I figured Ill open up the evaders trans to see how it looks in there.I think you can see where Im goin with this,But I compared the B3 idler with the evader idler and guess what they are the same size!!!!!The only down fall is the bearings are a different size!!!!!!:mad:Now on to the topshaft.I didnt do a good inspection into this but it also looks to be the same size!!I didnt want to totally take it apart but I am going to try this after this race weekend I will let you guys know about it as soon as I can but til then bite your nails like me! :D ;)

I'm so bummed!! :(

Last night I took my Evader #2 outside for a little fun since it's sooooo warm here in Regina (unusual for this time of the year, just above freezing), it was dark outside but there was some light from the nearby building. I found a nice little non landscaped area surrounded by sidewalks that was fun to bash around in, lots of ruts and stuff to jump and I was having alot of fun...

Then it happened, cuz it was dark I couldn't quite see clearly and ran almost full speed into the side of the sidewalk head on!!!! argh!!! I broke the left side of the bulkhead, the front bumper and the hinge pin brace...

I'm STILL waiting for parts for my Evader #1 which I broke back on December 16!! So now I have two broken Evaders and no parts to fix either one of them...

I know it wouldn't have broken if it had an aluminum bumper and hinge pin brace...

Hopefully my parts that I ordered back in December will get here soon, then I'll send in my next bunch of broken pieces...

I'm the same way, we run ours around at night in a school yard which only has one light. They can get pretty hard to see, so I made up a set of LED lights, red in the rear and yellow front (yellow trying to look like fog lights)... Anyway, much easier to see not to mention that it looks very cool in the dark. I'll try to get some pics this weekend to post.

I sent an e-mail to Duratrax the other day about the bulkhead problem. A guy by the name of Jeff Noffinger, in research and development, wrote back saying they realize there is a bulkhead problem. He stated that they are working on an aluminum upgrade that should be available shortly. I too have parts on order from Duratrax. They told me they would be in yesterday, I called and the delivery date is pushed back to January 25th. Talk about bumm'in. I started to throw a bit of a fit on the phone and the girl offered me any extra part I wanted. I asked what else had been coming in broken and she told me it was the front suspension arms, so she is sending a pair of those as well. So, give them a call, act ticked that the parts aren't in, and get some more stuff for free. Worked for me.

When a part breaks, do you have to send the broken part back before they replace it for you?

DanzST
01-13-2002, 03:25 PM
Offroader, I haven't yet been asked to send any of my parts back in order to get new ones. I just gave them my name and where the truck was bought and they ordered them.

offroader
01-13-2002, 03:40 PM
you just call Duratrax and tell them what broke and what hobby shop you got it at and they send the parts? Do they send them to your house or to the hobby shop?

DanzST
01-13-2002, 06:07 PM
Offroader, the girl took my name and my address and said they would send the parts directly to me. I know it sounds kind of "too good to be true." So I said the same thing to her. Her explaination is that, because they have had SO many calls about the same thing they are just "trusting" their customers. The reason you have to send the parts in according to the manual, is because they like to examine them to find out what is wrong. She said they have gotten so many parts in with the same basic problem, they don't want anymore to look at. I was looking on the electric forum and a hobby store owner that had written stated he had heard from Duratrax that they had gotten a "bad batch of plastic." And that was the reason for all the failures. Believe it or not Duratrax does not make these parts themselves, they purchase the individual parts from another manufactuer and put it together as the truck. The girl on the phone said that the manufacturer can't supply all the parts to build new trucks as well repair all the broken ones being ordered. How's that for "big business?" The guy that I talked to at R&D at Duratrax said that they do monitor forums like this to see what is happening with their product. If you look on page 2 or 3 of this forum, a guy from Duratrax offered a reply.

Cool, thanks Dan.

Since everyone seems to be breaking the same thing on their Evaders, maybe since everyone is having to wait so long to get the replacement part I'll just order the part now with the assumption it will eventually break and I'll be able to replace it right away.

Well this week at my track I had bad luck. My ESC failed, I had to solder another one on, and had no practice time.

Then the races, well I didn't charge my batteries full so they dumped before race ended.

Steering servo horn broke, I had to sit out a heat to fix.

Now the sad part is, all 3 guys in the non smoking section of the pits, all had tourbles wiht racing today.

At least I had fun. :)

I am going to have to call DuraTrax and complain to them to give me a new ESC because I was using mine fine, and it stopped working completely on me, and my batts were fine.

Hey Pudder, I don't know what happened to your ESC or if

What the hell is a Rustler doing in here!? Damn people! Those servos really piss me off too! About 3 people including me had troubles with our servos. One guy stripped his, anothers died, and mine died just in time for the main. GRRRRRR! So I put a JR servo in and that better hold! I know what would make me feel better, to take that old servo, and smash it with a sledgehammer! Except I should keep the gears, and the good parts.

Anyways, besides that I had an absoloute blast. The first race, I rolled my truck so much, a bit too tight in the turns, and it flipped over most of the time. The second race, my truck barely moved at the end because my pack wasn't charged enough, and third race, I was great driver, and improved my overall average speed by almost 1 mph.

Okay Everyone, GOOD NEWS!

I get a reply from the product development manager himself, Jeff Nosinger, and this is what he had to say:

Mr. Schlichting,

Hello. I am Jeff Noffsinger, the Development Manager for Duratrax. I received the comment at the bottom of this e-mail from you via our webpage.

We would like to offer graphite/nylon composite parts for the Evader and this is something that we are working on now. I cannot predict at this time when we will be able to get them here for sale - it is too early in the development process right now. Hang in there with us and we will deliver some nice optional parts for your Evader.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know what kinds of optional parts that you would like us to come out with. This really helps me with the decision making process of what to do next. If you have any further comments, questions, or concerns feel free to contact me. My contact info is below.

Okay, I think DuraTrax is pretty sure on producing these parts. Here is a reply I got from Jeff Nosinger this morning from a mail I sent him yesterday:

Mike,

Unfortunately, I do not have any parts that I cen send out. The one's I have received were VERY costly to prototype and I have to keep these for our R&D department, where the test conditions are controlled very carefully. We have to squeeze as much testing out of each part as we can.

Hang tight. We'll have some conclusions soon and I should be able to implement some changes.

Best Regards,

Jeff

This is sounding good. I also emailed him about 10 mins ago asking what parts they are planning on making, so I will just keep you all updated when the info comes.

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if anyone has put a set of the HPI MT Mesh Wheels on their Evader? I purchased some today and put the rear ones on ok, but when I went to put the front ones on they don't fit. I had to use this little adapter thing that came with the rear wheels to get them on, but nothing like that came with the front wheels.

Anybody have any idea how to get them on?

Thanks

Paul

pudder
01-23-2002, 03:11 PM
Yes, the rear ones fit, I had to drill out the little plastic adapter a bit to fit the bigger axle, because my adapters were smaller. The front ones I bought, on the package, it said on the top "Fits Losi XXT". I had trouble getting the front bearings in at first, but they work.

Mike,

It is very early in the process. At this point we do not know what material we will be using. We have test shots of many different ones. I cannot tell you the specific materials we are trying. This is proprietary information. We want to use a material that can be used to mold any part. I cannot even attempt to predict a release date - we are at the beginning of the development cycle. Hang in there....

Thanks,

Jeff

What are you talking about, the rear rims don't have any bearings for them. Your rims have bearings in them, thus requiring bearings for them, which I used, and I use the rear for the rear, front for front. I had to bore out the axle hole for the large axle for it to fit, but now it works fine.

-mike

offroader
01-25-2002, 02:08 PM
Pudder,

I don't understand your post...just for the record I don't know much about any of this(i'm sure you can tell). Are you saying that the front rims have bearings in them which means you can't use rear rims in the front?

pudder
01-25-2002, 02:34 PM
Lol@offroader, yes. If you look in the front rims, there is little metal things called "bearings" in them, if you use rear rims on the front, you don't have bearings in the rims, this creating friction, and I dont even really know what you did, just tell me how your wheels are setup.

-mike

offroader
01-25-2002, 02:43 PM
well I just put a pair of rear HPI MT Mesh Wheels on the front because the front MT Mesh Wheels didn't fit properly and the rear ones come with a little adapter thing that makes them fit. I wasn't aware of the bearings thing...i'm guessing that "friction" probably isn't a good thing is it?

pudder
01-25-2002, 02:50 PM
In this hobby, no friction is usually BAD, unwanted. You are supposed to use the front wheels in the front with bearings, and the back wheels in the back with the adapters.

-mike

offroader
01-25-2002, 02:55 PM
So would you say I shouldn't use the rear wheels in the front, or do you think I'll be ok?

also how tight are you suppose to tighten the nut on the wheels? should you tighten it as tight as it will go?

Thanks for all your help Mike, it's nice for someone who doesn't know that much about this stuff to be able to get some help like this.

Thanks
Paul

RichieRich
01-25-2002, 02:56 PM
Low friction is good. High friction is bad.

KnightShift
01-25-2002, 02:57 PM
I bought a set of foamies/rims that are all notched for the back drivetrain, I used them on the front too.. All I do is put some good grease onto the mounting bolt and make sure it turns good... works for me..

Technically, you should use front wheels with bearings, but if all else fails, do like I did... grease them up good.... :)

PS: dont tighten them too snug on the front or they wont turn, grease or no grease.. just snug them up enough that they dont wobble too much, but still turn freely.. when I did that to mine, with the grease, I spun the wheels and they spun for a few seconds or more before stopping. If you tighten them up too much, they wont turn...

pudder
01-25-2002, 03:04 PM
If you get some Jaco/Pro-Line faomies for the T3, they will fit, just need to drill out the rears to the size of the axle. Especially if you are racing, friction is important to reduce as much as possible.

rpm rims
pro line speed hawgs
duratrax 2400 battery

what do you think

and what pinion should i get

riche rich, no friction is good, any friction is bad

problem is I won't be racing on carpet, our indoor racing is on concrete so I've got a set of Speed Hawgs tires from Pro-line and the Chrome MT Mesh Wheels from HPI (pictured below). I think I'll try what Knightshift said and grease them up real good. Is the reason you don't want friction because it's better for racing if you don't have it or will it damage the truck?

They look REALLY good on my truck...I'll post some pictures when i get some taken.

evaderstrules - you're right. BUT, it's impossible to completely eliminate friction so, low friction is good. No friction is a dream.

offroader, it's kinda both, you have bearings to cut down on the friction on the front axles.

my friends radio shack car, that i race, has plastic busings in the wheel instead of metal ones or bearings, there was so much friction on the axle, it snapped

The reason is because after time, your rims will ware down, and so will your axles, mostly your rims because your axles are metal and rims plastic. You will be able to wobble, or move your rims with your hand once they get worn down a bit, and this will decreace driving ease, and create slop. After many years, even the bearings will probably ware down in the rims, or the axles, but after many, manyyears.

Less friction=easier moving parts=faster moving parts=less heat=more effeciant=better performance. :D

If I could, I would take back your rims, and buy some front ones, and use the bearings, you will be a lot better off that way.

Evaderstrules-That is quite funny, why would you race a raidoshack car, they are not even allowed at my track, and they are so incredibly slow.

My friend at the track has a Kyosho Ultima, not the R one, just the RTR one, and I don't think he had bearings, and he just put a new stock motor in, and went out driving at lunch, and his axle snapped, I just had to laugh.

i am racing it and wining with it
iam racing with it because at the track i am racing at the owners are doing a points thing kinda like nascar does. at the end of the season, around march, they with give the racers store credit.the more races you race and the more races you win the more credit you get.
so by the time i get my evader, it will probably be late febuary, and i will not be able to get first.
i have only lost twice with the radio shack car, and in the lead points wise

so what do you think of my set up i will be using and what pinion

Check this out on the DuraTrax web site.

http://www.duratrax.com/techsupport/evader-support.html

I just found it listed on another forum.

Wow, you don't need to even send in your parts, I'm sure they're going to get a few people ripping them off, you could get extra parts for free!

Since those MT Mesh Wheels probably aren't a good idea to use because of the whole bearings thing...does anyone know of any wheels that would work on the Evader? I'm looking for something that looks kinda like the MT Mesh ones...I'm not a big fan of the solid color wheels like the ones that come with the Evader.

If you listened to my posts I said that THE MT MESH RIMS WILL WORK ON THE EVADER ST FOR THE FRONT WITH THE BEARINGS. All you have to do is buy the CORRECT rims, the front ones, and pop your bearings into them!

Someone listen to me !
