I got a reply from hexcrews, and they say that I need 1/16, 5/64, 3.0mm. I think I am going to get either integy wrenches for $5 each or hudy for $10, so is the integy good enough or should I get the hudy?

The brand doesnt matter that much, I have POS whenches that I bought for $15 in portland 3 summers ago and they still work great. I also use some cheap plastic handled whences I bought from greathobbies 4 months ago for 50cents each :D And they all work fine.

I know the Integy ones are good too, there was a guy selling them for 26$ Canadian for a set last year, he hasnt raced for a LONG time, sucks because I wanted some. The ofna ones look pretty nice too, go with what you like the best, afterall it is your decision. :)

Integy ones are good. The thing though, you might want to get all 5 sizes or whatever. Or atleast three. You will need the sizes for the screws you are getting, plus you might want one for adjusting the diff screw, it is also the size needed for the rear a-arm mounts. Really, in the long run you will thank yourself.

Hey guys,
I just got a Mod motor for the first time and now I need to adjust my slipper.
I put in a Speed Gem 2 13t double.
on dirt the wheels spin a little before they grip (on a dead stop) and it really doesnt bother me, but will this hurt my truck in any way?
on the street the wheels spin like crazy so I think i need to loosen the slipper.
any tips for me?

Justo:
Here what I did for bashing around on any surface.
Blue Springs on all fours. I use 2 big spacers on the rears and 1 big spacer in in the fronts. I used 35-40wt oil in all the shocks. That should work pertty good at least it did for me.
Viper:
Like Pudder said that is ok. I have tighten my all the way down before and not had any problems with it. If you want to can loosen the nut that new the spur. I forget the name of it. That should help but I just leave it how it is I bet it fun to drive it lol.
I can't wait to see that set-up k_sw31. Do you really need a 2-speed. Yeah !!!!!!!

Looks real good. I think I will get some rims like that. Would go good with the g-hawg tires I will get and a maxx body(should look pretty scale).
What spring and oil setup would be good for mostly jumping. grass, and on-road? I was thinking something pretty stiff would work good.
I was going to get the integy hex drivers, till I relized that they don't have a 3mm size. I think I am going to get this other brand, wiha tools. There cheap and look to be good quality, and I figure, if I break one I can get a new one fo $4 anyway. I will ge the 3 sizes I need for the hexcrews and maybe one for the diff and one for the pinion.

CrashMaxx:
That sounds cool. I would not get the Maxx body though. Go with the low pro-file GMC sierra body. It will look much cooler. Those rims and tires do look neat. Use the set-up I wrote a couple posts back. You may just wana run on spacer in the rear to make it lower for the street. I think I need to get my truck up and runnin agian it just so much fun to off-road.

This wednesday getting my first rc car. Of course a RC10T3.
I will be getting the combo deal from Tower Hobbies, which includes the basic car with a 05 motor, Tower Hobbies 420 AC/DC 6-7 Cell Charger, Tower Hobbies 1500mAh 7.2V 6 Cell Flat Standard. Im also purchasing 5 Tower Hobbies 1500mAh 7.2V 6 Cell Flat Standard seperatly for practice batterys. Also to replace all the bushings berrings.
Im planning on purchasing a new charger and racing battery in a week or so for indoor oval track racing.
What sort of upgrade motor should I get thats not to expensive.
Is the controller it comes with any good? Junk? I have a new one picked out already which i should purchase within a month or so.
What sort of upgrades should i make to it that arent really expensive.
Please respond with some answers! Thank You!

You should probably take a look at ebay for a good deal. I see them on there all the time, RTR good batts and everything. Good price too.
But if thats not what you want to do, he is some advice on what you've chosen:
1.Don't get the combo if you are going to be replacing the included stuff that quick.
2.Get a nice charger to start with, the quasar is good, and there is another one for $50 thats good, but I can't remember what its called(Superbrain something I think).
3.For batteries, get one good 2400 matched racing pack and a bunch of 1500 to practice with, I have had good luck with cheap 1500 packs in the past so buy as many as you want and abuse em all you like, even with abuse, the should last a couple of years. But still get the racing pack for when you race(duh).
4.For an ESC, I've heard good things about the duratrax intellispeed 8 turn racing one, sounds like a good one to start with.
5.For the motor, I assume you would be starting in the stock class and any good stock motor would do great, but I don't know much about them so I can't help you there.
6.Don't worry too much about the radio gear, get something basic to start with and you probably won't want one with more features for a long time. I had a futuba magnum and liked it alot.
So I hope that helped you out, feel free to ask questions.

If your going to replace the electronics, I suggust you go with a team built t3. They have bearings already, plus more, you can get them at http://www.sheldonshobbies.com/ for only 125 bux, its a great deal. They sell at other stores for 160 or so.
WheelNut
09-23-2002, 06:43 PM
Personally I think that if this is your first "real RC car" I would buy a kit, not someting thats already built. It will let you understand exactally how the truck works, and its fun to build :D
Go with the team kit. Sure its way more money, but you will save money in the long run. You will never have to buy upgrades for it, the shocks will never wear out since there hard anodized, the kit has a great body adn high grip tires, plus it has bearings in the kit.
For a motor I would sugest a Reedy MVP or a Trinty P2K, P2K2, or the new monster stock motor (cant remember the proper name).

To whom this may concern:
I DID happen to find the part numbers for the narrow front tires and rims which I use
#7872.....narrow front 3 piece rims
#7871.....narrow front ribbed tires
I don't know if they will allow you to run them at your track if you do race because they ruled them out a while ago for racing, however the guys at my track don't care if I run them. :)

it actually handles very good, only turns about a foot or so wider than regular tires. They're really good for plowing through grass too.
Justo
09-26-2002, 12:56 PM
Ok, my Team T3 has, right now, a Quantum Competition ESC (had a Novak Fusion, but it was faulty), and a 13x3 Orion Orbital Pro.
I just got some dirt works tyres for it, and it's running sweet. I only run on road and grass so I've set it up super firm. Jumps very nicely.
What can I get for it now? I really would like to dress it up a bit.
I am not getting any graphite parts for it. I would get the shock towers if they were carbon fibre, but they aren't. Besides, as I do alot of jumping, the graphite would snap, whereas the composite I have now will flex.
Actually come to think of it, I haven't really seen any fancy pancy T3's before?
Is it still possible to get parts for the RC10T? If so, where?
I have one in good shape, but I would like to know if I can still get parts..

Well its a very simple reason.
I used to race stock and one Sunday only 2 stock racers showed up (me and another guy) so they put us with the Mod class (about 30 drivers) So I went into the LHS and that was the best Mod motor he had. I managed to make the A Main with it but it was not fast enough to do better then 5th.
I ordered a p-94 11x2 and a Reedy Ti 13x2 from Towerhobbies
I should be getting them today I think.

I do not have the funds to change the esc so it must stay. btw i have already had a stock motor in the past. There isnt really a class since most of the peeps at my track either have a gs storm or a tmaxx. So its kinda run what you brung. Any suggestions would be great. Oh and viperstrike where did you get the socks that cover your shocks at?
WheelNut
09-28-2002, 01:36 AM
Buy a Kyosho Magnetic mayhem and gear up the truck alot! Like a 21-23/87 ratio. That motor is super cheap but its fast because of its ultra high torque.
BTW-that is a bashing only motor.
pudder
09-28-2002, 01:38 AM
You have to custom make those shock socks. Either out of spandesx or baloons. I think the LRP Runner only goes down to a 16 turn, it is such a pile you should just get a good stock motor or better esc before upgrading.
k_sw31
09-28-2002, 01:52 AM
the speed gems 2 19 turn double is surprisingly fast/ torquey.
You could gear up to about a 20 tooth and hang stock t-maxxs and possibly even a horribly tuned storm.
pudder
09-28-2002, 03:14 AM
That is true, I forgot about the 19 t motors for a minute there. But however, gearing up doesn't always help hang with the big guys, you need a fine line between accel and speed because too much "speed" gearing will dump you and your motor will boil, and gearing to low will just be slow.

You probably wana run like a 19-21T Pinion depending on the track. If it has long striaghts go with the 21T and mote technically go with the 19T. If you had some pics of the track I could give you a better idea of what pinion to run.

I had a Schulze 18.61 controller and hacker B50 12s in my e-maxx and it was insane. Then the controller fried and I ran out of money to spend on it. Anyway I am sending in the controller for repair and selling the motor. Anyway, I just wanted to know how good yours was working. Have you had any probs with it?

well, if they are stripped, then take a dremel with a cutting tool, and cut a horizontil slot so you can use a flathead screwdriver. Or, try gripping the screw heads with pliers and twisting to free them. Hope this helps.

yeah, i myself have never raced, i'd like to though, but the only track nearby is a portable on road thing in a parking lot, no off roads around here. :(
I suppose i'll show up there sooner or later, but its only there every other sunday. Once i stopped by to watch, people were running mugen on roads, stuff like that, hehe, that would piss 'em off to see a t3 running 1500's and hanging with them, hehe, ;)

I got my T3 all ready for carpet racing even though it won't be untill after new years day. :) 80 weight oil all around, outside holes on all shock mounts. I also made some custom 3 hole bottom rear shock mounts for the suspension arms for a bit more adjustability. :)

Not asking about my trophies? :(
I have to tell about my trophies first, the actual trophy is from a weekend race and I got second in it (major race) and the black plaq is from today, the end of the points season for offroad, I got first place. :)
Now for your questions; The motor is a Reedy MVP and the tires are JACO green compound foam tires (for carpet racing). The 80 weight is for the carpet track, since there is no jumps or anything, I want to be running smooth as I can, I have never raced my T3 on carpet, just my Evader last winter, but I think I will do much better with my T3 this time around :)

I just got my first rc car done the other day. RC10T3 Team Update. Im running a nothing special 05 stock motor getting a new one soon. The 05 makes it go pretty fast. The car sticks to the ground like its magnatised its so nice. We have a offroad course, dirt oval, street type of course. We did have a carpet course but it closed, there moving to a offroad track! Im also making a track in my backyard soon Ita gonna be nice ;-) maybe next spring. Im going to start racing dirt oval here and practicing and racing the last few races of offroad.
I love this car lol. Its so nice i order 4 more 2400 battery packs which will bring my total to 6 2400's and 1 1500. I have a tower hobbies 420 charger (junky) Duratrax deluxe pulse charger, i have another one of them int he mail being delivered to me.
Anyone have any set up tips for a noob like me?
I have a gt in the mail coming to me.
Even though im a newb I dont suck I made 2 nice sized courses in my backyard there pretty hard and i can do it pretty good....

You need a comm lathe to cut the comm, if you want a clean surface, you could take some fine sandpaper and turn the comm inside it while you are holding it on the comm, but that won't solve anything.

Its called the "Rattlesnake"
Its made by McCallister racing.
they are only $10.99 each
you can find them on ebay.
Just search for T3 body
I bought 5 of them cause I love them so much.
The owner Gary is really cool and they also make some vintage looking Ford and Chevy versions.
Oh the only bad thing about them is they have no overspray film, just cover the outside and you will be fine.

ViperStrike
10-09-2002, 11:48 AM
What I would do is tighten both the slipper and the diff.
then losen the diff 1/8th of a turn.
then adjust your slipper.
The diff cant be very tight, but it can't be very loose either.
I've never had to adjust my diff after building it.

ok, i'll try tightening the diff, my slipper is locked.

just make it till its very snug and then back it off 1/8th
losen the slipper 1/8th also to prevent wheelies.

I would rather have a one motor T3, oh wait, I do. :D With twin motors, you are just sucking back almost twice the power, reducing run times, and it will be more matanence (SP?) for you. If you have the right setup with one motor, you will do fine. :)

10-13-2002, 11:38 AM
Hmm, should I get a super rooster or GT7? I will be using my T3 for bashing mostly, unless my track starts racing next summer(but I doubt they would be very strict about what I could race). I like reverse, but we all now it not that important. The SR is nice and versitil but I like to mess with setting. And the GT7 should be supiorly smooth. It $20 difference in price so that really a none issue. What do you guys think I should get? I'm going to order one tonigt so be quick.
k_sw31
10-13-2002, 12:00 PM
Hey, if price isn't an issue, by both ;) well, it depend, if you want reverse, go with the super rooster, you can always lock it out for racing. But, i would personally go with the gt-7, just because making the transition from haveing reverse to not, or visa versa, can be very difficult. For exapmle, driving my dually, i get all used to avoiding objects w/ out reverse right, when i go to drive my super rooster, i go to slam on the brakes, and, well, my motor has just been slammed into the wall *doh!* Then when i go back to my dually, i crash into the bushes, try to back out, then i think somethings wrong but it ain't. I'd just go with the gt-7. Besides, not having reverse, in my opinion, makes you a better driver.
Crashmaxx
10-13-2002, 12:22 PM
So you really think the GT7 is worth it. I do like reverse, but I can totaly live without considering that my 1/8 scale buggy doesn't have it.
My dad thinks that I should get the SR just for the reverse and to save $20, I think it might be better to pay a little more to have the best I can.
I think the real issue here is weather or not reverse is important. I like reverse, but can live without it.
Do you think that the weight advantage and better features of the GT7 will make it go significantly faster or give me any better run time?
And heres a list of the other stuff I will put on it:
-2 matched 3000 nimh sidexside packs
-speed gems pro 11x2
-hobbico cs-65 servo
-MX-3
So I have one vote for the GT7. Anyone else have a opinion?
pudder
10-14-2002, 12:09 PM
I myself would go with the GT-7 since all I do is race. I am planning on making a new track for myself next summer so I might run at home. All I find reverse is good for is doing wheelies if your truck doesnt have enough power from a standstill.
Racing is over for 2002 here, I am just going to have to sit here and post my days away until indoor starts up. :)
Atleast I have a new Tekin charger and power supply for next season, and just modified one of my pit tables to be a charging station.

I think the GT7 is your best choice. Also, have u heard anything about the new MX-3? I am looking for a new FM radio, and if it has 3channels, then why not get it for only 110 bucks!

Hey RB
I ordered an MX-3 on Friday.
I'll let you know how it is.
I'm using the 3 channel receiver that it comes with for a T-maxx and got a Novak XXL for my T3.
I'll probably get it on Friday.

Do you guys pre-thread the chassis holes with a 4-40 tap? The screw heads strip way too easy.

I hear it is supposed to be pretty nice but Airtronics never includes decals with their products, which is really cheap, I wouldn't buy one since they don't include decals. The JR XR3 is also another good radio, but they don't include decals with it either, you need to buy the R-1 for decal sheets to be included.

Yes, I think tapping the hole would be wise. Taps dont cost much. I dont haven't had to thread any new parts in a long time time so I dont really have to worry about that stuff.

I first test the hole by slightly threading the screw in, if it seems easy going, i go ahead and put it all the way in. If the threading seems difficult, i pre-thread it with a 3/32 cap head screw,

Put a big fat MIP decal on the back where the antenna is, or there abouts. An hg decal on the hood wood be cool, or rpm would kick too.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have a problem I was wondering if anyone had thoughts about. I put all the shocks together, trimming off the burrs as best I could, and for 3 out of the 4 shocks I've had them start leaking oil (I haven't really ran it much so it can't be normal wear and tear). After taking them apart I've found that there's something dragging them and it usually is one of the plastic washers. I'm just wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong or if the plastic parts aren't right somehow. It seems like the inside of the washers was really rough because I put in the shaft and it catches on it, even with oil all over it. Anyways, other than that little problem I'm lovin it. It's a lot faster than I expected.

I had the same problem with 2 of my shocks on my t3 sport. I found out that I had not pushed the white peg in hard enough. I heard one click but there was suppose to be 2. This fixed my problems. If you think that you have a leaky seal you can get a shock rebuild kit for about 5 dollars that has new orings and everything. Hope this helps

Got my T3 in the mail yesterday and had to leave work just a bit early :) I put it together in just over 6 hours (no paint yet tho). By the time I was done the world was asleep and I couldn't even try it out : ( C'mon 5 O'clock! I wanna go home and get wheelin!
It all went together fairly smoothly but ya know, I REALLY hate those flat head 1/16 hex screws AE uses. Seems like half of em come with the socket prestripped. I had 2 brand new allen wrenches and I kept pulling screws out of the box that wouldn't catch at all! It felt like the hole was just too big. I had the same experience with my TC3. Luckily I had a few spares lying around. Is this common?

I had a similar problem when putting mine together but bought some decent allen wrenches and that seemed to help. You just have to be really careful with the tiny ones. Sometime I have to clean out the inside of the screw head to get it to go down far enough to catch. It was frustrating at first.

So these (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?Q=1&I=LXUC54) aren't decent? Oh well. At least one of em's handy for getting at the ride height set screws on my TC3. Weird thing is, I even tried my normal Craftsman hex set and they wouldn't catch on the trouble screws either. This set's never failed me in the past. In the end found that the keys that came with the kit actually worked the best, but only on the long end so it was pretty rough torquing them. Go figure.
Actually Pudder, I don't buy it. I KNOW they are crappy screws. When you screw 1 in fine and then use the same exact key for the next screw and it just spins in the hole, there's no other possibility. Sorry.

all my Hex wrenches strip the screws badly
but the allen keys that came with my kit always work perfectly.
I ordered a Team hex kit cause it is driving me nuts.
I hope it is worth the $40

When putting my FT kit together, I couldn't even get some screws all the way in because the hex drivers themselves were stripping. I ended up buying a Racer's Edge set, well worth the money.

I found that buying the regualr steel screws is much better, they are always a perfect fit on my rpm wrenches, plus they are a LOT stronger, and , w/ the blue screws, you probablys save like 1 oz or less. Just my 2 cents.

Hey, this is a little thing I had to write up for an Enlgish project...
Blue makes you go faster.
Blue is a color which makes things it is on move faster. It is a good color, available in many shades. But there is one shade in particular which is the best, the blue which the recycling bins are colored. Why is that blue the fastest? Well, because it is a good mix between light and dark, creating excellent acceleration and top speed. Wearing or using this colors in things will have this effect. I have experimented somewhat with various shades, different colors, and amounts used on radio controlled cars (RC cars). I observed that when I was driving with a light blue and green body on the car, it seemed to have lack of acceleration, and top speed didn’t feel like it had that “top”! A few weeks later I then tried a new “blue streak” colored body, which is like that recycling bin blue, of course, the ultimate in blue. My lap time at the track increased, as did top speed and acceleration. I was very pleased with the results from one body to the next. However, I have also tried using blue on other vehicles, all with great results using this blue. This topic has been discussed with many other people, many agreeing, but I have had a few disagree. One person, let’s just call him S.T. said that gold was the fastest of colors, truly, I don’t know about that one, but since blue is more widely used than gold, I still say that blue is the fastest color.

I cant see why you guys are having problems with the T3's screws. I have never stripped any of them out yet, and its been a good year, and that truck has been torn down plenty of times. No problems on my TC3 that I've have for 2 years either, well a few screws are pretty worn out but not quite to bad yet. :) ANd thats with some Al and some Steel screws.

I got a prob with my T3. I am almost done putting it together, GT7 is in and everything, but the servo is slightly too big, the steering linkage is hitting it so it won't steer. How can I fix this? Or should I just get a new servo. It is a CS-65 and it is very fast and torquey, the only other one I have is a futuba s3003. This sucks, anyone got any advice?:(

Oh crap! The motor won't go, not even a little. Everything is soldered perfectly and they all are pluged in the reciever right. This means only 2 things:
A. The battery needs to be fully charged(tried it with a 30% charge)
B. It is defective and I have to replace it.
I am charging it up, lets hope its A and not B.

Well, for the servo, check the manual for instructions; with some servos you need to used spacers on the mounts.
For your motor, make sure the brushes and spings are getting power to the comm. and that the esc is getting power. Keep in mind that the problem could be really simple, like the on/off switch ripped off, the brushes broke, or for some odd reason (i've been through this a few too many times) theres no crystals in the receiver
Hope this helps

This is all brand new and installed right, I e-mailed novak so I should have it working soon.
