Isn't every issue a Monster Truck issue?
SteveK

No, every issue is a T-Maxx issue. The Monster Truck Specials have 1 or 2 other types of truck in them.

Hmmm. I guess that a T-Max isn't a monster truck?

Every issue is a MT issue, whether they copmpare MT, theyre ar eabout 50 different trucks out now, 1/10, 1/8...I'm so sick of MT if I see another issue on MT from RCCA, or RC Nitro, I will not buy it, I don't care. How about an ELECTRIC Issue...like that'd ever happen =\...if you want a MT issue go pic up virutally any Rc Nitro or RCCA...chances are its got a few reviews and a showdown or 7.

This hobby is litterally born and bred on monster trucks. What's the best-selling R/C of all time? The Blackfoot. What's the longest-produced R/C? The Clod Buster. What was everybody turning their 2WD and 4WD buggies into the late 80's and early 90's? Monster trucks.
Monster trucks are big, they can go places and over things other cars can't. Off-road buggies are good, but they have limited ground clearance and suspension when compared to any monster truck.

SteveK - I understand and totally agree w/all of what you are saying. Howvere if you just keep promoting the same damn thing (T-MAXX!!!) how can this hobby actually grow in any other direction. Granted a lot of stuff is MT related in RC, but for this hobby to, god forbid, expand, there needs to be focus on other aspects of it such as buggies, TC's and ST's. Also ELECTRIC...I mean honestly how many damn reviews do we need of the T-maxx, how many companies need to make hop ups for it disgusts me how much T-maxx and OFNA MT stuff is in these mags. A little diversity wouldn't kill anyone. and over and over again they do liek OFNA monster pirate vs. T-maxx. HPI Savage vs. t-maxx...who cares?!? Do an issue on all the things not MT related, maybe an issue on electrics, tc's and buggies and ST's. ST's recieve fair enough coverage...TC's get a decent amount too...but my point is, they do 12 issues per year, I'm sure the MT people could deal w/out seeing their beloved T-maxx in 1 issue...and I'm not trying to start a debate here, just trying to express my opinion and the fact that it is not necessary to do an entire issue on MT, when every issue already has half of its resources as MT related.

I don't really consider the new nitro monster trucks to be 'monster trucks'.

i agree with you 100%. they are either buggies with big wheels or stadium truck/buggy hybrids...althought that MGT looks like the old MTs of the 80-90s like the clod and usa-1.
i think MTs are just evolving, old MTs were nice and big but lowsy racers, now they look less like an MT but can handle off road just as well and can also speed through a track. I like them though, especially the savage.

The monster special used to be monster and racing trucks, back when they weren't that far apart, and racing trucks were still called monsters (Up through the RC10T and LXT), but not it's mostly Maxx-type trucks with a few bones thrown to the real monster trucks. Racing trucks seem to be gone altogether.

Wow, I'll bet they sell about 4 issues.
T-Maxx is by far the best selling truck ever. There are more companies surviving selling stuff for this than any other vehicle. Period. That's why you'll see a lot of articles on the Maxxes, it's the most popular. They aren't making it popular (directly) the public and community are. Ask a person off the street to name an RC car and if they don't say T-Maxx the probably can't name one.
Other trucks (annoying that people don't call trucks trucks, is an H2 a truck? it has independant front suspension!) aren't as popular, but can be every bit as fun.

The T-Maxx may be hot right now, but you know there was R/C before 2000. I'd bet the Blackfoot sold more units, and the Clod Buster has been available for over 15 YEARS! Think the T-Maxx will last that long?
Before the T-Maxx, everybody knew the names RC10, Blackfoot, Grasshopper, Frog, Hornet, etc. The T-Maxx is big, but others have been as big or bigger.

I don't think its right to call T-maxx's, Savages, Terra Chrushers, etc...Not real monster truck. Say someone actually build a 4x4 independant monster truck would it just be a wanna be monster truck? (BTW a 2wd indy suspension monster has been built before) What really constitutes a monster truck in my opinion is big tires and huge suspension, also a truck body, and major off-road capability. Besides do you think a solid axle truck with a big block doing 40mph is going to be drivable? No, you need the independant suspension for performance.
Now if you want to rock crawl and need big articulation you need solid axle. But indy. is better suited to bashing.
Having monster trucks in RC mags isn't all that bad, just less T-maxx, more Savage, Tamiyas, and other monsters.

I couldn't add this to my post, since there is a stupid can't edit your post after 10 minutes rule. :(
Steve- I wouldn't play down the sucsess of the T-maxx. I was in my LHS and they sold 3 T-maxx's in an hour! They can keep them on the shelves, they just sell to fast.
Personally I don't like the T-maxx all that much its not bad, but I prefer the some of my other trucks over it definately.

Yeah, they ARE monster trucks, I just don't really like them or the attitudes of many of their owners.
And I'm not underestimating the popularity, I'm just saying that there have been as big or bigger sellers in this hobby. Unless you were around in the 1980's, you don't realize how big Tamiya was back then. I mean EVERYBODY knew at least a couple people on the block with a Tamiya buggy or truck. As popular as the new trucks are, they were like these. Toys R Us had Tamiyas in their stores, and JC Penny had them in their big X-Mas catalogue.

They do have "special issues" for other types of vehicles just like the Monster Truck special issue. The Touring Car issue and the Micro-Mini issue.
I don't mind T-Maxx that much. I think it really give a lot of people a jump start on this hobby. I know I've only been in this hobby in like 2 years. but within those 2 years, there have been sooooooo many competitions... such as savage, bft, tmaxx, titan, dominator, pirate.. even ofna is competing against it's own... and there's touring cars (like 3 new ones a week).
I was wondering... Back then, do they have this much compitition from other companies? I mean does the clods and blackfoot have entense rivals from other companies as well?
