I have a 13-T motor and 2000 mah ni-cd batteries. I want to know if there are ni-cd batteries that go over 2000 or 2400 mah. Or would I have to buy ni-mh batteries and a new charger to go with them.

wel, theres the tamiya bruiser pack- 4800 mah, but its not sold anymore and its not ment for a 13T. Yes 2400 is the maxx capacity of nicds at the moment. you could try 2800s, but i dont know where you would get them.

Well, let's put it this way...there are NiCd batteries with more than 2400mah of capacity, but they're bigger cells than the Sub-C cells we normally use. Really, today the best bet for capacity in the size we use are the GP3300 NiMh's, & as long as you have a proper charger for them, I think you'll like them a lot...

Actually, on the topic of batteries, I was talking to some LHS guys and they were saying that when you buy something like a "Team Orion 1500" sport pack, in a sense you're gambling.

The reason I say this is because I've bought 4 of these packs and their run time varies from 5 minutes to 12 minutes. Aren't they all supposed to be hte same? or is it true that you "get what you pay for"?

In that case, should I go with 2000 nicads? How can these be any better (besides milliamp rating)?

It is a case of getting(to some degree) what you pay for. That's why unmatched packs are cheaper than matched ones, they're frequently the worst cells of a batch, & in truth ALL cells differ slightly in capacity, voltage, resistance, etc., so an unmatched pack really is a crap shoot. Now about 2000's, yes, you'll run longer with them than those 1500's you've tried, but aside from that you may not notice any difference in performance. If you really must stick with NiCd's, I'd at least look for 2400's, they became quite good cells before the current generation NiMh's arrived....:)

I'm getting back into RC after 8 years or so out, and I was fascinated to see that I could buy 3 1800mah packs for 50 bucks. I remember paying that much for 1 1700mah pack back in the day - and I could go further back, but thats not the point. The point is I noticed the NiMh batteries, and have been wondering about them. Apparently they require a different charger? What kinds of charger, and how are the properties of these packs different other than higher capacity? Do they require any other special treatment? If someone could compare the two for me, or better yet, post a link to the information, it would be great. Thanks.

Can I charge Sanyo nimh 3300 mah packs with my Robbe Power Peak Ultimate, without damaging the packs?

I have one of those packs,I charged it once, but I im not for shure, that is goes right,my charger puts about 3600 mah in the pack ,is that normal?

And,do I need ro discharge it,when I charge it again?
I have used it until it was empty, and then put it away,is that the right way?

Well, I'm afraid I've not heard of that charger, so I really have no idea if it's appropriate for NiMh's. But in general, the best chargers for them are ones that allow you to change the amount of voltage drop it allows before it shuts off the charge(which Novak refers to as the voltage threshold & others call delta peak), have use of a straight linear charge mode(pulse charging really isn't good for them, which also means reflex or reverse pulse charging is not recommended), & allows you to turn off trickle charging(when a NiMh pack peaks, that's absolutely ALL they can hold, any more & they can overheat & vent quickly, so if your charger goes into a trickle mode after a peak charge, you could easily cook your pack in a hurry). That being said, there are a good number of chrger that I know do work well, like the SuperBrain 359, CE PitBull, Novak Millenium & Millenium Pro, Tekin's BC112 series(if they have firmware version h27 or later)Reedy's Quasar series, LRP's new Pulsar, etc.. Now if your current charger can't do everything I mentioned, you may still be able to use it, but you'll have to keep a CLOSE eye on it at all times, so you don't end up overcharging the pack....

It is a charger for nicad en nihm, but I wonder if it will work allright,I have charged the pack once, and it stops fast charging at 3600 mah,is that normal?
And its a delta peak charger.

What is Peak en momentary voltage,is that what you ment?

And do I need to discharge the pack,I heard that it was not nessesary with nihm cels, but ill ask it to be sure

Hi Grizzbob

The discharge charge process is ended,by an automatic termiation circuit, thats what the manual says.

You can find the specifications of the Ultimate,by following the link above, and look at electronic acc, then search at 12 v chargers and you will see it.Will you please look at it?

If it's the same as their Power Peak Infinity 2, then I'd guess it'll work ok, but I'd still keep an eye on it as it runs(which is a good precaution no matter which charger you have) to make sure it doesn't try to trickle charge it after it peaks. As for discharging, you CAN discharge NiMh's, but it's not nearly as important as with NiCd's, & it's best if you leave some charge in them when storing for more than 1 day. Now about it putting 3600mah into the pack, yes, that's not unusual, it's a reflection of the internal resistance of the pack(so some of that extra mah is actually wasted, but it can't be helped, happens to all packs)....

Hi there, I've seen here around a RC car powere by lead (Pb) battery. Is it normal? I thought that Pb's are heavy as hell and fragile. I'm asking because I don't care about racing or minimum weight, I'm just bored of changing battery every 15 minutes and I don't have enough money to buy like ten 3000s for two hours of fun and five hours of charging...
