View Full Version : hey all, i'm new and need some help from the pros

Hello anyone who will read this with a possible returning answer. I am new at owning the whole lexan cars, i used to have the grasshopper II, now i have a factory team rc10 b3. i want to do a slick 3 color fade but am wondering, do i cut the body first or paint it first? any help would be great please reply to psurace@si.rr.com with "rc10 body" as the subject.


also.....do you recommend xacto or the shears?

Everyone has they're own style of doing this, some prefer to trim beforehand, but most do it afterwards...

As for cutting, use curved scissors.

yeah i trim then paint.. when bodies didnt have over spray film it was better to paint then trim but not so much the case now......

i use curved nail scissors (pinch em off your misses) nice and sharp and the curve is very handy.

but as eliseracer said everone has their own style, its pretty much personal preferance there no right or wrong way really.

I have lexan scissors but rarely use them. For wheelwells, and windshield holes I use an Olfa circle cutter. For the bottom lines of the body I always use a SHARP exacto. Score the line then snap it. It leaves the cleanest line possible. You do have to be careful though because if you slip your mistake will come back to haunt you.

I have a OLFA but don't like it very much.. it changes it's setting even when i'm tighten it extremely hrad.. what do you do to make stay?

Don't try to cut all the way through with it - just score the Lexan, making several light passes. You can then tear the Lexan cleanly along the score line.
