I KNOW it has been asked a million times before, but for making roll cages like spoolin's, how much "piping" do you need? I bought 3 feet of "real" 9/32-inch piping from my LHS (1.09$ CDN a foot) and I was wondering if that was enough. I wanted more of a realistic effect than using straws (no one would notice, I just would feel better this way). Would glue-gun glue work for mounting the cage? Would it affect the lexan and/or the paint?
Thanx...

3 feet sounds like enough, but you never know how much you need. The more intricate the bracing, the more tubing you need.
Hot glue will melt the paint, so that's out. Try mounting it with some P-brackets and screws/nuts through the body.
9/32" is a little too large I think: You want closer to .2", which is 2" scaled down to 1/10th scale. You can either go 7/32", which is a little large, or 3/16", which is a little small.

I think I will stick with the same size piping, considering my body will be (hopefully) emphasizing on racing (the look, not that actual performance), which demands sturdy chassis reinforcements...

Try using aluminum brazing and welding rod. It's fairly easy to work with and easy to come by.

ive used shoe goo and a hot glue gun... both worked fine.. the glue gun didnt melt anything and i use that body for bashing and the cage is still going strong in the body...

You can also use styrene tubing. It bends to the shape you desire just by apply some heat, and then you can paint it whatever color you like. We would love to see pics once your done.

Thanx a lot everyone, I'll probably finnish the body soon, but the cage will only start taking for at the start of next week or so... Contender, I love all of your work, waiting to see something new from you (and the rest of you)...

They have it at my lhs. It was with all the train stuff. You can use it for alot of stuff. I have seen picture of trailers made out of that stuff for rc cars.

Thanks, I'm working on a few bodies right now, but I'm not expecting to finish them for a while. Goodluck on your car.
Kden46,
NitroMan15 answered your question and he is right, you can use the stuff for almost anything.
