RC Car Action says that the JR R-1 Pro is programmable and you can save unlimited amount of models on it by using the pc interface...my question is, is other equipment needed, or can you use this feature straight from the box?

At least with the old one, you needed the additional PC software & cable. I doubt they included it in the new one.
You will need an interface cable. Actually I just bought a Pro SPCM version(gold wheel, 330rx, etc) that I want to sell(never been used at all!). If you're interested, PM me.
