I wanted to build a boat from scratch. I want to do this w/ some of my standard 1/10 radio control car parts. My main objective is to find a boat body or build one. I was going to use wood but i don't have a saw handy and don't feel like borrowing one. Can I just buy a body somewhere or should i just attempt to make my own. I was also going to sheild or seal all eletronics from getting wet by an inside compartment. I plan to use a servo and rigging a rudder(sp) in the back. For the motor i have a 19t trinity chameleon. and i have an esc. as for the prop i was going to make it stick out and have a air boat style but due to weight issues it may hit water. i was also going to use an old chasis to mount most of the parts. If anyone has any sketchy ideas or plans, feel free to upload them. This is my first time attempting this so i hope it works. thanks.

You can use your radio , servos , motor , ESC and batteries from your R/C car and you can make most anything float .
But if you want it to look good and more importantly perform good buy a hull and hardware with a proven design .
Check out http://www.bbyracing.com/ for the hull and hardware .
I have the BBY War Zone Jr. , i'm using a 13 turn car motor , Octura x431 plastic prop , Duratrax Streak ESC , HS-81 servo , 2400 mah sanyos and homemade hardware that's copied off the stuff you can buy . My boat does somewhere between 25 to 30 MPH .
Don't get a boat to big and heavy because then you will need a bigger motor and more cells to power it .
Good luck

thanks for the info.
i was looking on e-bay and found some "Boats" i was thinking about using one of their cheap premade ones and replacing their eletronics w/ mine. for the price i though it would be worth it just for the boat chasis itself. i'm taking my good ol' time w/ this but when i complete it i'll post pix.

Hey Se_12alty,
Theres a fellow on EBAY that sells some kits for monos and cats . The kits look pretty good and easy to assemble ( wood kits ) . The fellow is from Canada ( to help you locate the right guy ) .
If you want , I can try and find him and supply a link to one of his auctions .
If I am not mistaken , the kits run for around $38.00
Theres no hardware or anything , just the kit to make the boat .

BBY is good, as is finedesign.com, dpileisuresports.com, and banditboats.com [bandit's a little pricy for sport running but worth it in mph] you should definitly get a hull premade, making a hull from scratch requires alot more than just a saw and wood. instead of making a compartment for the electronics you might wanna just buy a boat that comes with a cowl or get one seperately, then just seal it with hatch tape so you're whole boat stays dry. make sure you get either a monohull or cat, hydros and tunnels are for more experienced boaters. tell the dealers what you have and they'll recommend a hull and hardware for you.

have you picked up a copy of Radio Control Boat Modeler Magazine lately?
They have all kinds of plans if you're still thinking about building from scratch.
