I'm new to boating, and wondering what your thoughts are on this boat. I'am thinking about upgrading the engine (it comes with a 540), but I am totally lost on the type to get. Also what kind of battery pack should I be running on? I have a 1500mah....oh yes, I am also thinking about an ESC, but that is when I really get confused. any thoughts are welcome.

This is a big heavy boat for electric, you're better off going with a 700 8.4V BB motor on 12 cells, with an (economical) microswitch speed control, to start,,,

If you are going for econonical just get a hotter motor and a 1900 or higher mah pack.

Definitly spend the extra money on the higher mah cells. You'll be glad you did.

For my 500 motor, I use 6 cell 1500's that give me a good 5 minutes full throttle run times. :(

Hindsight is 20/20:rolleyes:

The bluestreak has the same fit out as a Bladerunnner - in short it is one of the worst setups Kyosho has put in a boat - complex heavy high CoG; inefficienct and low power output

the simple way is to gut the hull - it will suddenly be very light!

keep the solid shaft and reuse it as a direct drive from a 700BB 8.4v on 12 cells

Get a separate rudder - the one from Kyshos viper or jet arrow would be better but a metal setup is better still.

Reassemble the boat so you can velcro the batteries into the bottom of the boat

Now you will have a hull which is fast handles well and is reliable

Since this is the beginners forum, I shouldn't feel ashamed at asking some dumb questions, so here we go :)

1. So I should gut out the radio compartment also? If so, how do I mount the radio gear and servo? make a lightweight mount myself?

2. 12 cells = 2 7.2 volt 6 cell batteries connected with a Y- adapter?

Again, thanks Guys

For a reciever mount use velcro on the side of the hull near the aerial exit

for the servo make a bracket from aluminum angle or birch

for the cells a y connector is the way to go - you will be surpised how good the hull is once you have made the changes

sounds good guys. I'm working on making it a direct drive, but the diameter of the drive shaft and the diameter of the motor shaft is different. how do I go about connecting them? The coupler that came with the kit fits into the drive shaft, but it is to big for the motor shaft. any thoughts?

Check hobby lobby they have 1/8" to 4mm connectors - get the ones with cable rather than universal joints

Would this work?
the first on the page.

Although I think this is what you meant by universal?
The size is 4mm to 3.2, which are the correct sizes.
found it on hobby lobby. Im not sure what you meant by cable instead of universal. Thanks again, Matt

Another coupling I just discovered, that is a reasonable, sturdy steel ball & socket unit, can be found at www.offshoreelectrics.com under "hardware" check it out,,,

If you mean the stock Cen ball joint

I have used several of these - they invariably end up in pieces at an inopportune time

The flex connectors are not perfect but they are far more reliable and worth every cent
