Ok, i have found a problem.. the xtm 24.7 engine has a round exaust port right? well.. as i was looking at the cvec header.. it says for .12- .15 because of this reason.. the end of it isn't round.. its an oval type deal.. i was wondering if there was any way possible to buy a header manafold that will fit the .21 round port, and also let me use the cvec header system Below..

SuperMaxx stuff is the bomb. Its spendy but no more than hardcore racing offerings and the SuperMaxx (SM) parts are made tougher and stronger than anything I've ever tried. Yes I've run an HCR Ti chassis and it was nothing but a long stock chassis made out of over hyped alloy that flexed more than a stock chassis. Now I run just about all supermaxx stuff on my maxx except for the suspension and a set of hardcore skids. I've not gotten the suspension becaue the RPM arms work well and I've not gotten the cash to duy the suspension. the MaxxTraxx Mall (http://www.maxxtraxx.com/mall/unlimited_engineering.shtml) has some great prices on the supermaxx stuff.

Yeah that CVEC header will not work with a .21. I used to run one on my .15 maxx and it worked great but there really are no exhaust setups that can be bought that will mount the pipe like the pic that you posted on a .21. I've seen some people mount them using pieces of 90* elbows and such to make a rear mounted pipe but it looks akward.

Thus far my setup a short list:
RPM arms
AE shocks w/RPM 2 stage pistons
XTM shocktowers de-annod and polished
HCR skids
Ti turnbuckles
SM chassis
SM 10mm forward only tranny
Extreme performance 1/8 slipper 51t spur
ported XTM 24.7 with an old dynamite head on it at the moment
Megatech SH buggy pipe
1/8 MP 7.5 clutch, flywheel, and clutchbell 16t
SM Ofna gas tank
Dual disk brake hex
SM cetner drives
SM 7.5 diff conversion
SM CVD's
Boca Green Seal bearing
SM steering
and more..

The only thing I've broken since the addition of the 7.5 diffs is an end link. that is probaly because of the massive Jumbomaxx tires I run from time to time when I get into the climbing mood.

Wow, Nice maxx! maybe we could see a picture :D, well i was wondering.. does any one think i could buy the xtm header that i need for the .21, and then the cvec header kit.. and cut the part i need off of the .21 part, weld it up to the other??? i think i could pull it off!! :p and by next year or so i'll be in metal tech *whoohoo*

hehe.. I posted a pic a couple pages back. its not too pretty because I run the snot out of it. lol.. right now it looks like a rolling ball of mud! I may have to snag the digi cam to get a shot of it. here are links to the pics I posted a couple pages back.

Pic number one..... (http://home.attbi.com/~exsells/maxx_47.jpg)

and now number two..... (http://home.attbi.com/~exsells/maxx_46.jpg)

Yes it could be possible to weld the two toghther but I think the CVEC pipe is steel.. the XTM header is soft aluminum. if you were going the custom made route the best bet would be to get the XTM header then weld a piece of custom bent tubing onto that.

I started making a list since about 10 pm last night.. about the BEST t-maxx i could find.. my list first started off collecting prices from monstermaxx.com where i found the home of Unlimited Engineering Inc. were i found most of my products... Next i went to projectmadmaxx.com to find some reviews on products that might be useful.. some things such as the R/C ravens .21 extended full roll cage, or some

Piggy back resevors for Ofna 1/8 - 8
Panther Paddles - 4
beadlock rims - 4
.21 full roll cage
Supermaxx EXT suspension
Ofna Threaded body SuperShock - 8
7.5 differentials
hardcore racing .21 conv.
XTM .24-7 motor
XTM .21 header/tuned pipe
alumium tranny
forward only conversion - alumium gears
hardened steal spur
titanium cvd's for ext suspension
titanium center drive shafts
new t-maxx
Futaba 3pjs "pcm" remote

As my list progressed i found the price rising quickly.. which i liked! so i kept going finding the best, most durable things out there.. i can't list every thing i found because it'd be to long.. But just to give you an estimate the price came out to be around $4,739.31 and that is with for a FULL RTR kit i listed.. im guessing even if i went out and gathered this stuff i'd come out the an even $5,000 or so because of the nitro, fuel bottles, glow plugs, etc etc etc.. i go crazy on that stuff!:p So my new expidition is to start gathering this stuff.. i already found some one who might want to trade their NEW t-maxx for my xxx-s so that's how ill start.. and trust me.. even so this truck will be decked out so much.. ill still race/bash/ tear it up :D

racer13- If it is a .12-.15 pipe I don't think it will work well with the .21.

SixVi6- How do you like those Jumbo Maxx tires?

BTW: I am selling my maxx either to start over with a new one or to get a 1/8th buggy. So if anyone wants to buy something off of it LMK.

It was a .21 Cvec pipe.. but with the .15 header.. and i was saying take 2 headers.. and kinda mix it up.. but i've gone past that now. and decided the XTM .21 header and tuned pipe would probably be the best.. now that i thought about it...

Don't we all! :p

My Maxx is such a money pit I'm seriously thinking about selling it and buying the HPI Savage when it comes out. Probably wait 'til about March tho. This Savage surely looks like a killer Monster Truck. I think it will be better then the AE IMO.

Ijumbomaxx's.. I'vew had mine for quite a while now but until recently just started to run them again. The jumbomaxx tires for climbing and the really rough construction site stuff and fun bashing but they are heavy and do slow down the truck quite a bit. Also because of their weight I snapped an MIP cvd and scattered both my stock front and rear diffs with these tires and a hyper .21. after that initial incident I ran the stockers until I got the SM CVD's and 1/8 diffs. I still like the nimble quick stock sized maxx tires better.

why not get the New t-maxx 2.5 for 389 instead of spending 429 on the AE.. i bet the new t-maxx goes faster too..

R/Cbum4life
09-22-2002, 06:50 PM
yeah that new maxx looks like it rips. Go to the t-maxx website and download the video of a drag race between the pro .15 and the new engine. It blows it out of the water.

MaxxThrasher
09-22-2002, 06:53 PM
It's just the same ol' T-Maxx with a new engine and susspension system. The drive train sux and you'll end up spending thousands of $ on it to upgrade it so it doesn't break. The HPI already comes with upgrades in the drive train area and has a .21 for the same money.

racer13- oh ok, lol. I havn't looked at how the CVEC header works but couldn't you use a standard header with the CVEC pipe? Doesn't CVEC make one for rear exhaust .21s? I need a job too. lol.

SixVi6- Oh ok. :( Once or if I get another maxx I am definatly going to get Masher 2000ks. The stock ones are ok on real rough stuff but not much else.

MaxxThrasher- Some of the new maxx's drive train is stronger than the old one, also the engine isn't so strong it's going to rip it all up, I don't think  .

I don't know, but personally I don't like the AE MT. It looks ok but I thought they might make an all out racing MT. It looks nice especially being .21 but I don't think it is going to be a maxx killer like everyone thought. Has it been released yet? Does anyone on here own one if it has been released?

racer13
09-22-2002, 08:06 PM
i say it looks like CRAP!!!! it has sucky shocks that are slanted all wierd.. then every thing is shoved in a SMALL chassis which sucks even more! and if u look at it.. the receiver is bolted on a plate which is bolted over the servo's and a rx pack.. personally, in my opinion i would hate to have to take almost the hole dang truck apart to get to some things.. IMO the t-maxx is the BEST monster truck, it's light (kinda) suspension is reliable, and the chassis has enough room to fit every thing on there and is easy to get to.. PRETTY CHEAP ALSO!

LEMMEDRIVEIT!!
09-23-2002, 06:16 PM
Amen to That.- although i do wish that the new maxx could come with maybe metal drivetrain and piggybackresiviors, otherwise, i thought that the new AE would be better.

not me.. the t-maxx to me.. is a very "solid" truck.. but in Most of our opinions are.. the bigger the better.. thats why we throw .21 kits, .21's and alumium every thing, cause guys MUST have the biggest, best thing.. no lie! i know im like that! You really need to add the Racer X suspension to your ride, then you would be fully tricked out!! I have there Nirto chassis with the pro-line susp.. Im waiting for a few $$$$ like you to get the Racer X!! Then the Diffs. After that I will be getting the RB-WS7 engine with Robins pull start mod---oh my god its going to FLY!!

My buddy just finished him Completly outfitted Supermaxx with the WS7 and pull start--Ill let you know how that Puppy runs! Oh did I say "Puppies" :D

racer13
09-25-2002, 05:24 PM
Juice, why dont you get the EXT suspension, i heard it was the most durable and "strongest" for bashing and also for the every day racer.. the racerx suspension is for ALL out racing, i also wonder when the "rody" suspension kit is gonna come out! the video looks NICE!

NItro-Smoke
09-25-2002, 07:13 PM
I dont think there will be a Rody suspension all itself??? You will probably have to get the Whole Rody Truck--whick will be badd as--well you know!!
I would rather get the Racer X because Im more of a Racer than a basher, so it would benfit me more, plus Im sure the Racer X kit is VERY durable and Ill bet it would be VERY--VERY hard to trash even bashing it around!! Now if you were and Extreme Basher I would probably go for the EXT kit!

SixVi6
09-26-2002, 05:42 AM
The rody's suspension is made just for that truck but it closely resembles the racer x. The big news with the rody is the truggy style layout with special bulkheads the incorporate the shock towers and diff cases into it. Also robin has said that the rody's bulkheads and suspension will be available to bolt right onto a stock maxx or stock like chassis. I can't wait to see the final product!

I too would like the racer x suspension instead of the ext. I bash and ocasionally race mine but never get extreme and am good about not hitting fixed objects. The racer x is light and nice and adjustable. the only reaon I've not gotten it is because i'd also have to get some aluminum bulks then I'd get 1/8 shocks for it and next thing you know I've spent all togehter too much money. The stock style suspension and bulkheads have treated me well for quite a while now. nothings broken in a while and even when it was broken its cheap to fix but someday I'll have a complete SM thats fo sure but for now I've very happy with my current setup.

Stumbled upon a good deal for a Hardcore Ti .21 Chassis (well, at least i think its good.. roughly 150 USD NIB)

So now I'm gonna make a Maxx from scratch... I think i've got the front and rear pretty much settled (either UE or proline.. with whatever shafts will fit each setup)... Will probably aim for some of those new UE/7.5/ofna diffs as well. The engine of choice will be an 8 port Hyper which is readily available where i am.

One last issue though is the centre tranny. I see Stormer selling the whole centre (built and 'RTR') for 149 USD. Is it worth it? What upgrades will i need on it to keep the .21 power in check? I'm considering the Robinson's slipper, steel spur, and some other assorted Robinson's upgrades on the gears...

What would be the hardiest and most cost-effective solution to bulletproof the centre gearbox?

I would have to go to Unlimed Engineering on the chassis, they look more balanced than the Hardcore pro chassis, the normal extended chassis from HC looks worth it too. Each of the extened chassis (SuperMaxx and the HC titanium non-lightened) are really good, by RC Nitro. Of course they always have to have a negative comment, so they just dissed on color maintinance. SuperMaxx looks more complete.

Engine...cant say.

The pullstart for the 2.5 engine isn't out yet, and I doubt the other pullstarts you mentioned would work. Traxxas recommends not to use any filter but the stock one, and I'm going to trust them on that. I'd stick with that stock traxxas air filter.

I just got a 2.5 T-Maxx today, and boy..I love this thing! Forgot to get a fuel filter though, so I'll have to get one of those bad boys soon...d'oh. Won't stop me from running it, though..I'll just be more careful ;)

A fuel filter is highly recomended if you ask me. Just gets out dust or somthing in your fuel. Probably the most realiable place (by size and reputation) to get it is www.towerhobbies.com

I have ordered parts from smaller places, Americas Hobby Center SUCKS if you asked me. I ordered a pullstarter from them 5 months ago, got it 3 days ago AFTER cancelling it a week after I found that they didn't have it. AND it want the right size! I dont really like my LHS cause they rip you off so I will be ordering a battery and the bellcrank shafts from them soon.

Have you had this problem?

I was in the process of semi breaking in (tank number two) an old T-max that I had just rebuilt (had the high needle setting about 2 and 1/4 out and the low needle at the factory setting.

It went really well - when suddenly it started choking as if the fuel had become incredibly rich. It started perfectly and sounded good, but as soon as I applied some throttle it started to gurgle with just enough power for the t-max to crawl forward.

At the same time I noticed sputtering from several leaks from the exhaust pipe that had not been there before. The pressure hose from the pipe to the fuel tank was also leaking just where it meets the pipe. There was unburnt oil coming out from all the mentioned leaks.

I am a nitro freak but this one had me puzzled.

It seemed as if there was some kind of pressure build up in the pipe, so I disconnected the tubing from the pipe to the fuel tank and even through I lost all tank pressure the t-max immediately whent better (about 1/4 of normal performance)

Any way. After about an half-hour of messing about I concluded that there was something blocking the pipe.

After I got home I tore down the exhaust system and found the the muffler that sits in the pipe had melted and was partially blocking the pipe. After I put on a new pipe everything was perfect and I once again had a screaming max.

My question is this: How could I melt the innards of the pipe while doing every thing by the book. (correct carburetor setting and 15% fual)?

The fuel is a year old and the weather was damp and around 15 degrees centigrade

Thanks for any feedback

Regards,

Guy from Denmark

its common.. the stock pipe baffle or innards melt very easily to the point where many people just take it out and run without it from the start. it will run fine with or wothout the baffle in side the stock pipe.

Could a leaky tubing between the fualtank and pipe cause the engine to run lean (fual tank presure drop) thus creating the high tempriture that caused the melt down? This would happen even with the high needle 2 1/2 turns out.

I was flipping through an old RCCA looking at that ridiculously alluminum T-maxx in the Dynamite add (you know the one where it says "maxx out your maxx, dynamite it"), I was studying the picture when i noticed a thing coming up from the transmission, turns out, they make a small handle that screws perfectly into the transmission, (the three screws at the top). Its pefectly balanced in the middle, and it doesnt get in the way of throttle linkage even if you've reversed your carb. I got one and its great for carryin it around the house or to the car. (i can now take all my car stuff to the car in one trip!) Megatech sells it for i think around 16 bucks but i found it on e-bay for $12. If you've ever had trouble carrying your t-maxx around, you should consider getting one.

But if you happen to crash really hard with or without the body, you risk ripping the screws out of your transmission.

But if you dont jump big it would probably be quite useful. Also seems like it would be a bit more top-heavy, how much does it weigh?

16 bucks??? why dont you make one for yourself?

Yeah i try not to run my maxx at all with the body on, it bends the rear body posts whenever i crash. I dont think it weighs bareley anything. 16 bucks is alot, but i got my grandparents to buy it so it was ok. :)

hey every one.. i am making a list to build a SuperMaxx, it will have a jt racing hybrid chassis, supermaxx ext suspension, etc etc etc.. i have a huge list of every thing, but then.. theres ONE thing i forgot.. the motor.

So i'm wondering whats the most powerfull .21 (and reliable) motor for me to get.. for a 10-12 pnd hunk of metal.. i was looking at the Rb concepts WS7 and the Trinity sirio .21 pro offroad motor.. i've been leaning towards the ws7 because thats what Unlimited engineering uses in his .21 t-maxx's.. But.. i would really like other peoples opinions, i need something thats fast and lug this beast around.. easy to tune.. etc.

Im not a .21er, but I heard that the RB WS7 really rips.

The WS7 is a great engine, but they're pretty hard to find. If you can find one, get one. Another nice engine is the O.S. RZ V-01b racing engine. A guy over here finished very well in our Unlimited class with his JT Hybrid T-Maxx with SuperMaxx Racer-X suspension, 7.5 diffs, and an RB WS7...but that kind of setup will cost you an arm and a leg(err, maybe two legs... :p ). I've got a WS7 in my Mugen XR Works, and I absolutely love the engine, but it's a bit hard to get to turn over for the first break-in tank(the sleeve is extremely tight). Have fun! :)

lol! yeah.. my list price has gone way.. way up.. im thinkin 2 legs and a arm maybe.. it was something like $4917.58 or something. i have the list for any one that wants it :)

Anyone recenlty bought a t-maxx from tower hobbie's
just wondered how long you had to wait to get it
i ordered mine about 2 week's ago
but they could't tell me when i would recieve it cause of back order's :(
also anyone in the uk what fuel is avaible and where can i get it from
thanx

I bought mine from the local Hobby Town, so the longest wait was the drive to the shop(10 minutes). They had about 8 there, and said that they've already sold 70+ new T-Maxx's, and I was the third to buy one THAT DAY. I personally use 20% O'Donnell race blend fuel in all of my cars, but you should buy what your local hobby shop carries. That said, what does your local hobby shop carry?

That's the prob mate the my local model shop's dont even stock it nor nitro car's i havent asked yet if they could get it for me next move
i went to a model shop in swansea south wale's about a hour and a half away from me they had some for £12.99 for 4/6 ltr's but i dont know what it was or the %
on tower hobbie's web site there traxx top fuel was a lot more i know it's dollar's but in pound's it's still a lot more and i dont want to use cheap fuel in it and wreck it
can you recommend some good fuel's to use plz so i can phone around

Thanx

speedydave
10-07-2002, 08:41 PM
Well, if you're going to be ordering the fuel anyway, I'd pick up the Traxxas stuff, just because that's what Traxxas says to use(though there's absolutely nothing wrong with other fuels like O'Donnell, BT, Trinity, Byrons, Sidewinder, etc...). They recommend Traxxas Top Fuel 10% or 20%.

Hingepin
10-08-2002, 02:40 PM
Um, the only reason Traxxas says to use their stuff is because they made it, not because it will work best with their engines. Remember, Traxxas doesn't even make their own engines.

crazyL
10-08-2002, 02:59 PM
they make their own engines what are u talking about?

MethaneFreak
10-08-2002, 07:20 PM
Yeah, what the hell are you talking about?

Hingepin
10-08-2002, 08:19 PM
they DON'T make their own engines. I think its thunder tiger or somethin that makes them. Same for alot of companies, they cant afford a big factory to make engines, so thet pay a REAL engine company to make it for them.

speedydave
10-08-2002, 09:22 PM
I'm not sure if Traxxas manufactures the engines or not, but it was designed 100% in house at the Traxxas facilities. I never said it was what worked best in their engine, but it's the only fuel(that I know of) that keeps their warrantee valid.

crazyL
10-08-2002, 10:28 PM
they do make their own engines. They just moved to a new facility because they made all new machines to construct the 2.5 engines.

Don't worry. That is normal. The design of the Traxxas slipper causes the spur to wobble. Thousands of T-Maxxes have been wobbleing thier spurs for the last three years.

bluntie, Model Technics is OK and is quite popular in the UK, I would go for Duraglo 10% and your model shop should be able to get it for you, if not then order it from Apex Models (http://www.apexmodels.co.uk/) (best mail order R/C car shop in the UK)
Model Technics fuel is quite cheap, about £17 a gallon (UK not US gallon, 1 US gallon is about 3.8 litres but a UK gallon is 4.55 litres)
You can also get Dynamite Blue Thunder from Apex, it's better fuel but a little more expensive:)
I run Blue Thunder 10% race formula in my RB C12 T-Maxx and it's crazy fast:D I would recommend Blue Thunder as it runs much cooler and you get a little more power:) You can't get much else over here:(

all of those fuels are fine including the traxxas fuel i use the traxxas fuel in my t-maxx and in my rc10gt i have no problems with it

anyway will the new traxxas 2.5 engine bolt right in to the tmaxx or do you need a conversion kit

Thanks Lee

speedydave
10-09-2002, 08:14 PM
The engine will technically bolt right in, but the carb is a slide carb, so you will need to find a way to make that work(the new T-Maxx's use a rotating 90 degree angled canilever). Other than that, it basically should bolt right in.

R/Cbum4life
10-09-2002, 09:41 PM
yeah how does that post work for the slide carb I take it it is screwed into the chassis? Makes me wonder if the conversion kit will include a new chassis and if it will have the new telescoping drives, turnbuckles, long arms, etc. I tend to think the conversion if it includes all this is going to be expense as all get out but we will see. I can't wait till the 2.5 comes out.

Unfortunately I live in Guernsey (channel islands) and it's very small. There's only one club the GRCCC (http://www.grccc.supanet.com) but I race all the classes. We only race nitro in the summer so there's plenty of time for mucking about on the beach:D It isn't a big club but the level of competition is pretty good, on various trips to the mainland people from the club have made nitro truck national B finals. I also have a RC10B3 factory team, a XXX-S, a Tamiya F-103, an electric rustler (first car) and a Corally Sp12 G2:)

the model shop not that far from me stock's these what are the difference's and i also seen the sell a running in fuel for the t-maxx do i need this ?
Blue Thunder 10% Race Formula Racing Fuel
Blue Thunder 20% Race Formula Racing Fuel
Blue Thunder 30% Race Formula Racing Fuel
Blue Thunder 40% Race Formula Racing Fuel
soz for all the q's but it's my first nitro truck if i ever get it been told it's not comeing till the end of nov now :(

LouisB
10-12-2002, 05:41 AM
I would go for the 10%, I've tried other %s but I've found that there is no advantage with any more nitro, it just gets hotter at a richer setting, 10% is also cheaper:) I never use break in fuel and I don't kow anyone who does:) You may also want to pick up some after-run oil to protect your engine after running it, there are some R/C specific oils but I use 3-in-1 as I was told it worked almost as well;)

BobT
10-12-2002, 12:27 PM
LouisB has a good point. You must use after-run oil. I use something called Marvel Mystery Oil. After buying a small bottle of Hobbico "After-Run Oil" I found it to be the same stuff. As usual with most hobby shop prices the Marvel oil is tons cheaper and you get much more of it.

I just saved the after-run oil bottle and re-fill it from the larger Marvel bottle when needed. ;)

The reason for using after-run oil is to keep your engine's bearings from rusting. Glow fuel is hydroscopic, meaning it attracts water. We all know what water does to metal. So we coat the inside of the engine with oil to protect it from rust.

The best method is to first run all the fuel out of the engine. Keep trying to start the engine until it no longer fires.

Put after-run oil in the carburetor. Be sure you clean around the base of the air filter before removing it. You don't want to get any dirt in the engine.

I fill the throat up several times. Suck the oil through the engine by turning it over. This will get the oil to the cylinder coating it as well.

hehe I got some new rims for my maxx and figured I'd post a couple pics.

http://home.attbi.com/~exsells/maxx_49.jpg

They are Nova Rc rims.. they can be had in either t-6061 or t-7075 aluminum and are dirt cheap considering the quality is close to that of the Supermaxx wheels. Check them out at Nova RC Products (http://www.novarcproducts.com)

and their t-7075 wheels Here (http://www.novarcproducts.com/premiumwheels.html)

I know my maxx's chassis is horribly dirty under that body in the pic ane the bumper is borken.. hehe.. Its getting a complete rebuild and all I need are the Imex tires that I will mount on the new rims and it will be cleaned and ready to thrash.. I can't wait! :)

Stretch,

I work at a hobby shop (part time) but have never heard of a T-Maxx using an 1/8th scale diff. I believe Robinson Racing and others make hardened ring and pinion gears for the E/T-Maxx. Could that be what you are referring too?

stretch
10-14-2002, 04:40 PM
nope..there is a 1/8 scale buggie diff that fits a t maxx..hadcore makes one i belive or maybe unlimited engineering..i think its a ofna maybe

MaxxThrasher
10-14-2002, 04:55 PM
There are a couple of companies that do make 1/8 diffs. that will fit right in the T-Maxx. One is unlimted engineering...
http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/SM7.5Diff.shtml
but you have to buy both front and rear at a cost of around $300.

At the moment I can't remember what the other companies name is but MSJ is also selling a diff case for the EK4 and just might come out with one for the Maxx.

SixVi6
10-15-2002, 01:11 AM
I know of two places thus far that have 1/8 diff conversions. one is TCRC and the other is SuperMaxx. I'd say get theSM ones over theTCRC cases. but check Stormer hobbies.. they carry them both.

I myself am running the SM 1/8 diffs on my maxx after breaking tons of stock diffs. I've pulled the screws right from the diff cup, knocked teeth off of RRP gears, and wore stock gears completely out. This is all on a ported XTM 24.7, 1/8 clutch, and an extreme performance slipper so I'm gettin some sreious power through the driveline of my maxx. Thus far with the 1/8 diffs I've beat the snot out of my maxx and the diffs have held up without a single problem. soon I'll take some nice shiny pics of my maxx. I just need the tires for it. hopfully tomorow!

1/8th diffs in a T-Maxx???????????

Well it only makes sence with all the HP these nuts...er...hobbiests are putting in their T-Maxxes. :D

Do they use the same bulkheads or is that part of the conversion?

Don't use Mugen buggy diffs. They never held up in my MBX-4RR. :p
