has anyone ever seen one? I want to use a loose cells but I want a 5 cell pack. For a car!

I dont' want to spend so much on a pre made pack and charger with tx pack when I can get 10 1800mah AA cells for $28 bux with a charger. Not to mention much cheaper replacement loose cells.

Any ideas for rigging up something homemade would be appreciated. :p :p :p

Do you know how to solder battery packs? If so, then get a regular 4-cell holder and solder ond connections for a fifth cell. If not, I'm sure somebody else will have an idea.

Only problem with sodering is that I wouldn't be able to use the loose cell charger after doing so.

how about getting a 4 cell holder, and a single cell holder from radioshack, and soldring the holders in series so you'd get a 5 cell holder? Then you can glue the holders together, and you'll have a 5 cell holder.

big mike.... that might be it.

I wonder if the 4 sell flat will fit laying down in my car. If so the fifth will rest easily above it. Or i could use my existing 4 cell holder and rig something up.

I'm thinking rubber bands to hold the packs together unless I could buy 5 1 cell batteries and come up with something where they are glued together and I can still take the batteries out. Even at 5 bux for the holders and $2 a cell, a 6.0v 2000mah pack sounds oh so delicious, especially when I can pop the cells out and cycle them though a 28 dollar charger 10 at a time.

~~~Question~~~
I take the negative from the first pack, connect it with the positive from the second pack, and return the negative from the second pack to the futaba J connector right?
I guess I should have been more clear. I mment solder on connections for another cell to be held with the 4-cell holder, making it a 5-cell holder. I never meant to tell you to solder cells. I think rubber bands would hold it together fine.
What i got was a one cell holder, a sodering gun, soder, and shrink wrap.
If i just cut into the negative wire on the pack that comes with the reciever, run the negative wire from the original pack into the positive on the one-cell, then the negative from the one cell back to the negative leading to the futaba plug, is that right? Seems right but better safe than sorry.
This is actually going to work out quite right and very cheap. I'll post pictures of my results when it's all bulit.
I did it, it works great!!!!!
Total cost of 5 cell 2000mah battery pack, $13 dollars with 20 minutes of labor.
I'll have to snap some picutures and post them on here. This is a very good idea for cheap rx packs. Going to 6.0v gets almost 20% from any servo setup but the packs are expensive and cyclers are even more. I got a good deal on a 10cell cycler that came with 10 1800 mah AA's (great for the tx).
On my turbo burns (yes i said turbo burns), I had to leave the 5th cell loose and strap it up on top with the reciever since it won't fit any way below with the other 4. I don't think they had 5 cell packs in those days to be honest. It's a 12 yr old car.
On my Max MT I just superglued the extra cell holder to the side of the 4 cell, and it fits great. I just with i would have added shrink wrap to the bundle of wires I got but I got creative with a twist tie instead. Only thing that went wrong was the fact that I accidentally ruined the J plug on this one. I didn't leave enough slack on the battery plug (2 prong to on/off) so i had to connect the battery pack directly to the on/off switch. No big deal since I remove the cells for charging I don't have to remove the pack itself. Then when exposing the on/off wires I removed teh J connecor instead of the 2 prong so when I was finished I had battery into on/off going to 2 prong. No biggie, I cut a J off an unused servo and replace the 2 prong with that. This is the problem with making irreversable changes at post 1am. It wasn't ideal but it will get the job done, and I have the materials to make pleanty more.
I'll post pics sometime this weekend in a new thread. Thanks to big mike, lax and everyone else who helped on this little project of mine.
