I'm thinking of buying an E-maxx, so I would like to have some opinions on the truck. Durability, hop-ups, speed, etc.... What do you think, or is there a new electric MT coming out soon that I should be looking for. Thanks!

I still have mine, although i blew some drices so its down until i get new driveshafts.Hop ups? lots of em. Very strong, and after aluminum bulks, maybe cvds, 14 cell battery packs and aluminum skids, itll be unstopable. Out of the box, its quick for a truck its size.

LMK if you need anymore help. You don't need the hop ups if you aren't going to drive like ya stole it.

Oh, I plan on drivin it hard. What are some must have hop-ups that don't bust the budget?

I've owned mine since Feb and I've beat it up pretty good. I haven't run it into anything, you can expect things to break then, but have biffed more than a few jumps and had a bit of general mayhem. Put it this way... I am not nice to the truck, but I don't purposely try to break it.

I've broke...
Shocks... blew caps off two of them on a jump... replacing with losi/dynamites
Front skid... bad landing... replaced with aluminium cause it was cheap at my LHS
Rear drive shafts... twisted 2... mainly from a sticky rear diff and doing donuts on concrete
Rear body mount... stock springs cause the truck to dive BAD on stops... flipped truck while stopping, broke body mount... went to heavier springs, replaced mount, all better

Like I said, I don't run into things. I think 75% of the broken parts on Maxx's are caused by running into stationary objects. Don't run into things, you won't break many parts. I believe this is why I haven't broken any bulkheads which people say are so weak.

Good thing I can say about the truck... it is the most fun R/C I have ever owned. If I had my choice of 1 R/C for the rest of my life, it'd be my E-Maxx.

Budget hop-ups...
$65 for shocks. Not budget, but definatly worth it.
$14 for springs. A must IMO.
$0.69 for 3/16 dowl rod. Use dowl rod to reinforce hollow stock axles, it may save them from twisting. Another must, mainly because it's cheap insurance. Got to MaxxTraxx for instructions.
$10 for OFNA Diff Lock... a must if you're climbing and don't want to go to a spool. Brutal on axles though. I am almost positive this is what bent mine. The diff lock still allows differential action, but it is much stiffer. Great for climbing and fun in loose dirt.

I greatly appreciate all the responses. The more info I can get the better off I am. Please keep the opinions rollin in. Thanks

definatly a durable truck, so far the only think ive actually broken was a front bumper mount. but get an alumnium front skid definatly, and some stiffer springs, decent batterys and youll be set.

Definatly cover the bottom of any maxx with aluminum skids, then from there on when something else breaks you can replace it with ethier aluminum or a stock piece. I broke a shock tower though and went to get an aluminum tower, $50 then I decide that stock wasn't so bad.:D If you've got the extra cash get the bulks in aluminum too.;)

I'll second these statements. Well put.

Dynamite makes some cheap bulkheads. MIP and maybe dynamite are the only real options for CVDs, skids I would go with ballistic stupidity(thats what is on mine and they have been good so far)

MrH is right. I broke alot of stuff because of running ito staionary objects. i think the only thing i didn't break was the driveshafts, but i think that was because they were old and the carpet it was on had too much traction(running the 14 cells proabbly didn't hep either)

LMK if you need anymore help.

That sums it all up right there. I agree completely, especially about the E-Maxx being "the must fun RC I've ever owned".

Oh yeah, just a tip. Don't replace the motors with aftermarket ones from Trinity/Reedy. If you want more speed, buy some 7-cell packs.

Totally agree, the E-Maxx is the funnest R/C vehicle I've ever had. It's awesome off-road and on-road, and it's extremely tough. And everyone couldn't have hit the nail more on the nose, don't hit things, don't break things. I've broken a rear body mount when I landed it upside down from a 10 foot jump, and I've broken a rear skid when I landed in right on a rock off some stairs. Other than that, rear driveshafts (w/ a spool and lotza traction on pavement). It's an awesome truck, and well worth your money.

if u got thick grease around, save ur self $10 and use that. also, if u need more spool action, but still need ur diff, get a old pen spring (G2s work good), and stick that inbetween ur spider gears.

also, 7 cell stick packs wont fit. check out traxxas' website to make ur own. Also, check out the April or May RCCA. kevin did a 'project' emaxx. has lots of info for u.

another tip: replace things that cant flex (skid plate, bulkhead, chassis braces, etc) with aluminum or titanium. replace things that flex (bumpers, suspension arms, etc) with tough plastic. if u even tap something with aluminum, the dent stays (hurts wallet to replace), but plastic just bounces back.

leemaxx- get seven 6 cell lose packs. then you can build six seven cell packs.

i agree with tc3 benjammin. the modified motors cut back on run time, dont seem THAT much faster, and cant use 14 cells... thinking of going back... then again, they are rebuildable.

im really confused how all you guys break ur body mounts. i never broken mine (although the tops are now very short :D ). what are u guys doing!?!? am i just not abusing it enough? :D:D:D

My body mounts were broken on a WOT run across a field and into a playground with fresh wood chips. I pushed on the brakes, not realizing the wood chips would pile up in front of the tires and flip VERY quickly. While tumbling across the playground, it ran into a swing set, breaking the rear body mount.

geez... THAT MUST BE FUN!!!! :D:D:D but kinda good that i dont have to worry about replacing too many parts now... its sitting, waiting for upgraded servo, new radio, shock oil and springs... :(:(:(. im sad. oh well, the parts should arive as soon as i order them. lol

the emaxx is pretty fun of of the box but some good batterys and cvds and you have great truck the best part about the emaxx is that you can do anything to it onroad, supermaxx, and ect.

yes a sweet truck. But I haven't ran it a whole lot since I got my t-maxx. I'm wait my for shock shafts from tower so I can do my shock rebuild. Theres NO oil left in them now so I have a bouncy ride. But once I have them rebuilt I have a nice soft ride again.

the e-maxx is the best monster truck there is!!!! it is durable, trust me i've beat this this into the ground. i bought it last summer and only broke a few parts. if u dont do stupid things w/ it alot it should last forever........ i've had mine for about a year now and here are the parts that i've broke.

Both front lower a-arms
Right front bulkhead
Right rear bulkhead
Rear shock tower twice
Rear skid plate
Right rear turnbuckle

But besides the parts i've broke from stupid things. it is a great truck....buy it and have fun

and buy sanyo and GP batterys. I learned to stay FAR FAR away from cheap-o batterys. I went from a duratrax mt pro to a traxxas e-maxx and it is the ONLY reason I stayed in this hobby.

I could say traxxas SAVED my relation-ship with R/C.

and you can jump the e-maxx. BOY O BOY is it fun to jump the maxx.

yep, great truck, my favorite of any of them easily.
I rarely break anything other than drivetrain.....CVDs, trans gears, spurs, diffs, you name it. There just is not strong enough gears made for it when you step up the power a few notches. Great truck though.
