I have a Savage 21 and am looking for a good pullstart engine for it. Which engine should I get except for the one that is shippped with the RTR version? Thanks.

How much money do you have? The Ofna/Picco .26 is the strongest pullstart I know of for under $200. You can find it for $170-$180. It's pretty sensitive to tuning, but it's amazingly powerful. It wheelies while on the move, not just from a standing start.
If you're looking to go cheaper, the Ofna Force 25 is nearly a direct bolt-in and goes for $110. The Ofna Hyper 21 8-port is a direct bolt-in and has about the same power at the 25 and runs $120. The 25 is reported to have a little more low-end power, the 8-port supposedly has a little high-rpm power. I've got the 8-port and my friend has the 25, they're virtually dead even in a drag race.

Are those engines all came with pullstart units?

Yes. They may come both ways, but all are available with pullstarters.

also, there's the team orion wasp .26
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEKX1&P=0
and the mysterious sirio .27 which I haven't been able to find anything about other than it's listed on tower's website now.
btw all wasps are piccos so the .26 wasp is the same as the ofna picco .26...
my guess is the sirio would have too much power. and its really expensive.

Is the picco .26 a drop in or do you need to make mods to make it fit?

I believe it's a drop-in. I don't recall hearing about any installation issues at all.

I wouldn't put much stock into manufacturer's hp claims, they're all pretty inflated except maybe for O.S.

i am exagerating because it has so much power it can strip out. your diff will be fine.

The only way to tell what the true HP of a nitro engine is, is have them all dynoed on the same machine, which only a few places/companies have.
That's why companies like RB Concepts don't print HP numbers on their websites, because that's what exactly it is. Just numbers.
I believe it's a drop-in. I don't recall hearing about any installation issues at all. Maybe driveshafts. People are snapping them left and right with more powerful engines. Although I did hear that people were getting Heavy-duty dogbones along with the stock ones in their Savage kits recently. You can tell if they're HD by if it is chrome.

That'd be a VERY wise move on HPI's part, since that's the main weak link in the vehicle. Even the stock engine can break stock (non-HD) dogbones.
