View Full Version : Batteries for bashing with an E-Maxx????

Hey All,
I'm thinking of picking up an E-Maxx to bash with and I am wondering about batteries. I currently have no electric cars/batteries or chargers so I'll be needing everything to run this truck. Will standard 1500mah batteries be OK for backyard bashing? My thought is with wanting to make a minimal initial investment I can buy 6 or 8 cheap 1500mah batteries for the price of 2-4 of the higher mah batteries and have a lot more play time between breaks to charge. Over time I will upgrade to better batteries. But to get started would I be OK with a bunch of 1500mah (or maybe 2000mah as they often price out within a buck or two of the 1500's)? Thanks for the input and can anyone give me some insight on what the higher mah batteries give you? Faster runs, longer runs, better life, cooler operation?

Thanks!

I have a pair of 1200s that are still as strong as the day I got em(about 9 or 10 years ago) My 2000's are matched and give me great performance. I would suggest to not buy cheap, and buy soem mattched batteries or even single cells to assemble them yourslef. they will last longer because they run cooler.

LMK if you need any more help.

Once you buy high quality and/or matched packs, you won't have fun with "cheap" packs anymore. Because there really is no comparison in the power between the two of them. Go with som entry-level matched packs

I'd go for a few sets of some nice 2400s or 3000s. They are getting a lot cheaper these days for really nice packs, and you can get 10 or more minutes of runtime with them.

You would be better off just going for the nicer packs right off of the bat. You'll love the performance, and it lasts.

A good charger would be the Super Brain 959. 45 bucks, and it has some great features. If you want to cut the charge time down, buy two. Great deal.

The first time you NEED to do is get batterys that have the GP(Gold Peak) or Sanyo name on them.

next is buy them from

http://www.promatchracing.com they give a 6 mounth warrantee. and you WILL be rewarded with long life and strong batterys. DO NOT accept anything less than BIG name brands, I learned the hard way.

since you are just a basher you could live with unmatched packs.

promatch has a deal this month and for 30 bucks you get a GP3300 stick pack unmatched. Even tho it's unmatch you get the 6 mounth warantee it has the Good GP name on them and there cheap as hell right now. If a cell even did go bad in the pack they would fix it up for you and free of charge but that has rarely happen to people.

i'd stick w/ the 1500's. ive had a set of the same ones 4 a year now......and there still running strong. i had a pair of team orion 2400 but they dont work anymore so. my advise 2 you is to buy Piranha 1500's these are the best. hope this helps

"I'm thinking of picking up an E-Maxx to bash with and I am wondering about batteries."

I bought an E-maxx and a pair of peak performance 2400 mah batteries. I also bought some Sanyo 1900SCR batteries. The 2400 mah batteries (china!) are junk. The sanyo's are good.

Tower has had these sanyos (great planes electrifly) on sale at various prices with LR0194 for $20.80 today.

My T-maxx pretty much stops in ten minutes with these batteries, but does wheely easy for the first few minutes.

I bought several sets of batteries and a pair of duratrax piranha digital chargers. I tried a MRC 959 but its features weren't acceptable to me.

just rember these words of advice.

NO-NAME= WASTED MONEY

BIG_NANE= long run times, long life and they make you a happy person.

It's very simple to find out what cells they use. ITS ON THE LABLE. If nothing is on the lable than they probly used noNAME cells and make sure to hide it.

____________

here another simple way to rember.

if it don't say sanyo or GP it's JUNK!!!

I ordered a pair of 3000's that came together from tower. I can't remember there name but the are heavy duty batties I know that. Hope fully after using 1700's and 2000's I will get atleast 10min. runtimes from these 3000's do ya think I will or not?

I picked up some GP3300s for $5 a cell (unmatched) and Heilige Scheiße they blow away my Pirahna 1500s, Peak 2400 Emaxx packs, and Team Orion 3000 Super Duty packs. $60 for two unmatched packs of GPs is far and away better than $60 for those TO POS packs!

Never ran a matched pack of anything, so I can't comment on matched cells versus unmatched.

I got those Team Orion 3000s and wasn't real happy with them. One or two cells in each six pack would get crazy hot. I took them apart and put them in SxS config. I've had one cell die from one pack, and can feel another in my other pack superheating. Just a matter or time before it implodes. I hope I just got a crap set. After building some packs with some quality cells, I'll NEVER by a stick pack of anything again.

what you got was china NO_NAME cells in your packs. when a cell gets real hot in the pack that means it's done for. Stick packs are great IF and ONLY IF they use quilty cells like sanyo or GP. Then once they have sanyo or gp cells in your pack they will run for years.

Well Crap! Oh well hope they last a little while atleast. I have a 3300 GP pack made by dynamite, so I might get another one and run those in the E-maxx, is that a better idea?

rusty89

that would be good. as long as they have a brand name on them. or just get them from promatch, which ever you like, a GP is GP.

Check these out: https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/seekpart.pl?pn=gn3300

$130 bucks, 24 unmatched loose cells, 3300mAH, Gold Peak batteries. Looks good to me ..

Stormer Hobbies:If you're looking for an inexpensive way to get batteries or are interested in matching your own cells to get the best battery pack possible, these are the packs you want. You get 24 cells, enough for 4 6-cell packs, 6 4-cell packs, or 3 8-cell packs for extra high voltage and more power from your motor.

Edit: I'm thinking about an E-Maxx, and was wondering what kind of charger setups you guys are using?

are these batteries (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LE2137&P=1) good? at $27 a pack, i think its a good deal. compare this: $27 for a 3000 mah pack vs $30 for a 3300 mah pack. its about 111.11 mah per dollar for the 3000, and 110 mah per dollar for the 3300. :D but, are the 3000 mah batteries good?

also. do you have to discharge the NIMH packs like the NICD packs? i remeber reading somewhere you dont, but i just wana be sure.

All those 2-Pack Team Orion, Peak, Etc. suck .. Some/most people have like 10-20 runs before they melt down.

ya those are CRAP PACKS they are just a waste of money. the trinity maxx packs are crap they have NO-NAME cells in them.

a LOT of people get suckered into no-name cells packs. You MUST MAKE SURE they say what is INSIDE the packs because if they don't say they use CRAP.
