Just wondering what would be better for a XXXT.....I would think since I use the XXXT to jump it, I would like to have rev to go backwards, yet while in the air i would like to move the nose up or down by using brakes...

With just about all reversing ESCs you get proportional brakes as well. More and more they have a 'double pump' activation, requiring you to hit reverse once for brakes, then a second time for reverse. That keeps you from engaging reverse when you don't want it.
Just don't use reverse too much: It accelerates motor and gear wear, and shortens run time.

Thanks for the Reply. And I just read that reverse isn't allowed in races ????huh???? maybe thats why brakes are more commonly seen in race situations..hmm
thanks for the reply,

Yeah that has always confused me how the best ESC's are not reversible. For me atleast, reverse is really important. Does anyone know why the high end ESC's are not reversible?

For the ESCs, it has to do with performance: Instead of just FETs for forward and a couple for braking, you need some for reverse too, which increases size, weight, and resistance/voltage drop.
For racing, banning reverse is a safety measure: You can barely see crashed cars in front of you, let alone cars reversing in front of you. Same thing with driving backwards on the track. Since you have turn marshals to right flipped/crashed/spun cars, it's best to just ban it outright.
Many ESCs have reverse lockout, so they essentially become forward-brake ESCs with a few steps. You still have the resistance/weight/size of the reversing ESC, but no worries about jumping into reverse during the race.

oh ok that answers a question I have had for a long time.

Thanks for the reply steve....but one more question could I use a reverse esc during a race but not use the esc? or must you have an esc that has only brakes and forward and none what so ever of any reverse?
thanks,

depends where you race. the track I race at is pretty slack on rules.

That's why they have the reverse delay, they are "race legal" but if you're caught backing off a pipe expect to get disqualified.

Some esc s have reverse disable feature, like the Novak superooster.

an example of an esc that has reverse lock--out is the LRP F1. i like it for bashing 'cause i can use my reverse and for racing i can shut the reverse out.

Because it's much more amusing watching someone who claims to be an "expert" scramble over to his RC to pull it off the wall.
OK, that's just a bonus. :D SteveK's got it.
