For a new nitro driver, is there a difference between getting a JR XS3 crystal-less transmitter with 27 or 75mhz? It looks like there are more channel options with a 75mhz. Thanks for your help!

75mhz is better, as like you said theres no channels to choose from....

27s actually supposed to be slightly better in some way, (I forget what) but if you run at at track you definitly want to run 75mhz, I can only imagine being on the same frequency as one of those newbie rtrers. Me friend used to run 27 at the track not a good idea the kids that have rtrs think they can turn on their radio whenever they want, and since theres only six frequencys its likely theyll control the car and cause it to slam into somthing.

The ONLY single reason why 75 is good is that there are more channels to choose from.

However, 27 is really better otherwise. The spacing between channels are much further in 27 and so if someone had a very very slightly detuned radio, they won't screw you and vice-versa. The frequencies for 75 are really close together(too close)! By the way; 27 is legal just about anywhere, where as 75 is only legal in north america!

And as for getting hits; you can get hit on just about any channel 75 or 27... depends on how lucky you are! So is anyone claming that no body gets hits on 75? Didn't think so! At anytime, anywhere, it should be promoted that someone should look on the frequency board before attempting to turn on a radio. To reduce conflicts, you should stock a spare frequency.

Thanks everyone. TEM, your advice sounds best. But overall consensus seems to be mixed. Anyone else?

If you run at a track get 75 the reason you get "hit" more on 27 is because it is the frequency all the rtrs use, and newbies have rtrs and usually have no respect for the use of clips and not turning on ther radio when someone else is using the channel.

The great thing about this hobby is everyone's willingness to share information with new drivers. Got the 75mhz, cause 90% of the drivers at both tracks I go to have 75. Good rule, always go with the most popular choice! Thanks a million you guys!!!!!

What are you talking about? If you meen 27.xxx mHz...you will see that there are 1000 frequenty's. 27,000 till 27.999 ......

I don't get it completely I gues

vols-std What are you talking about? Pay attention to what the people said here; "Channels"! not "frequency"!, ie there are 6 channels in the 27mhz band!, CHANNELS! Besides; unless you have very very very very precise equipment, 27.000 and 27.001 will not operate side by side very well! If you are thinking how many frequencies there are in the 27, there are unlimited; 27.000000000000000001, etc, etc.... How's about 26.995, 27.045, 27.095, 27.145, 27.195, 27.225. Whats in between?, 1 or 2 odd channels that you can buy crystals for in japan, which are ILLEGAL here in North America!

You dont even have to buy the odd channels. Just switch the rx and tx and it will create a "half channel" Probally not good for teh radio but i have seen some ppl do it will success....

Switching the TX and RX crystals will not create half channels. I've accidently put the TX crystal in the RX and RX crystal in the TX back when I used to have and XR3 and it didn't work. It glitched like crazy and I found out when I went to check to see if I had damaged crystals. In the case that it does work, it will be on the same frequency not odd channels..

Crystals are designed to oscillate at a specified frequency. Ie out of any brand of crystal, it will oscillate on the frequency it is marked with. However, there are other parameters; ie impedance properties, etc that may vary from one brand to another. And that is why some brand of crystals don't work with other brands equipment. There are also cases that work, I've had a crystal that I bought at an electronics store for under 2 bucks that worked in my LRP Phazer! What a deal!

Anyways, enough with this thread...........

What are the main requirements that go along with buying a different reciever company then radio company? besides the 75 mhz or 27mhz, am or Fm??
