I had the RC500 4wd bought it in 85. I only raced it on a club level for 2years and once in awhile down up and down the street to be sure it ran good, was into 1/10th offroad and started getting into oval and 1/12th racing. 1/8th scale died in the area and when it was discontinued I sold it in 93 or so. No problems with car ever, only problem was with glow plugs burning out sometimes. Used the same Paris Rex engine until I sold it.
My first car was an Rc300 which I bought minutes after I watched it take second place in the A-main, still hot from the race. It had an Irvine engine which the owner bump-started using a bicycle wheel. I was amazed to learn that the wing actually worked! I could never get the thing to work for me but my greatest thrill was painting a new body for it. I would admire it on the bench for hours.

It is my dream that associated will get back into 1/8 scale racing again. Their new 1/8 scale car should be based on the nitro tc3 I think that it would do the same thing it little brother did dominate the class.

RC is always evolving and changing. The big early interest was 1/8th gas, then electric onroad 1/12, 1/10th offroad, 4wd offroad, dirt oval, 1/10th oval/onroad,stadium trucks, 1/4 scale racing. touring cars, and micro racing getting popular. If gas onroad gets popular again, then there will probably more kits introduced by more companies.

From what I understand, the rc 500's that were put togather by Ron Paris were lethal! Does anyone remember when these things had 3speeds on them?

When I was a kid;I had a Associated 1/8th;think it was their first. Can't remeber but it was a RC1 or 100 or something like that. Flat pan chassis;laminate clutch shoes and just spring steel front suspension and none at the rear. Used a veco .19 with a heatsink add-on and basically a stright exhaust. With that exhaust it was like a toggle switch and we changed it to a sliding baffle. Orbit brand car radio with a steering wheel;kind of like irst Futuba car radio. We arrange a slot car controller bolt to rear with 90 degree bellcrank to the throttle laver on side of radio. This was a while before the RC500.

Any motor that Ron had was a screamer, local guys who were able to travel to some of the big events talked of Ron Paris and how a motor may have been typical at first but after he worked on it, it was like putting a different motor in. 1/8th scale racing didn't last long enough to get into full aftermarket items, plus I was also racing offroad, dirt oval and 1/10th oval was starting. It got the the point Sunday was dirt racing, Wednesday was oval with converted offroad cars, Dominators, SRP1 4wd, Fridays again gearbox & early pan cars, Saturday was either onroad gas or 1/12th racing at another track. Family life and finances started to suffer so RC racing was curtailed, nites not spent racing was taken up in tuning or rebuilding cars or adding hopups.

Hey Everyone,
I've been collecting the 250's, 300's and 500's for about 5 years now.
I started out in the mid 80's with an rc300. This is in the days before the 300 came with the ball diff. This car had a K&B .21 with a rotary carb. I still have this car.
Now I have quite a collection. I have 1 rc250 that is brand new 1 rc300BD that is brand new (neither have ever had a radio or engine mounted in them). I have 4 other RC300's, 4 RC500's, 1 RC500 with a 2 speed tranny and 1 RC500 with 4wheel drive and 2 speed tranny.
My pride and joy of this collection is a brand new RC500 4 wheel drive with 2 speed tranny. This car has never had a motor mounted in it.
Now my wife isn't happy about the cars being all over the place but it keeps me out of trouble.
I'm always looking for parts and cars.
Chris
Just bought a RC300 roller (brandy new in box) !!!!
Gonna use an OFNA .21 Hyper.
Can't afford anything exotic, heck I paid a mint for the above.
Does anyone know what kinda pipe will fit it ??
I'm thinkin' Mugen will fit.
The exhaust exits from the left (uh, drivers side ??)
Gonna get a Lola body and Elegi tires !

I have a near mint RC500 2WD i've had since it was brand new. I've run about 1/2 tank of fuel through it years ago and now the tires are worn really thin. My Question is, does anyone know where I can get foam tires to mount to my stock wheels? Im looking for a tire that can handle the asphalt. My rear wheel diameter is 2" x 2 1/4" wide. The front wheel diameter is 2 1/8" x 1 1/4" wide. Can some please help, i've been looking for quite a while. Thanks.

Hello,
In the early 1980's I was racing my RC300 one a week. In the 1980's their were race tracks in the area that I could race at. Now the local race tracks do not have a onroad race track for gas power 1/8 scale cars. In the last 20 years, I collected a RC1, a RC2, 5 RC100's, 3 Rc200's, a Rc250, 4 RC300's, and 4 RC500's. I also have a garage fill with spare parts. I only start the cars about once a year now. I normally just drive them down the street or I tke them down to the hogh school and run them for a while.

Hello there glad to see there are other crazy people who collect great old cars and have their wives ask "what are you going to do with all this stuff!!".
I've been restoring old R/C cars now for the last year - I live and breath them and have just been offered an RC250 as a trade against a CEN MT (which I've upgraded to 2 speed). The RC250 does run but well used and was raced for a number of years. It comes with loads of tyres, shells and I'm assuming/hoping spares. What value should I put on this car and do you recommend I buy it in the first place - normally if I can't buy the parts I make or modify - is this an option with this old car??????. Cheers E N D A (Ireland).

Hello Chris,
I tis really hard to a value on a 1/8 Scale Gas Car without seeing it.
Here is the USA, RC250's sells for between $ 65.00 and $ 200.00. The price depends on the condition of the car and what comes with it.
i.e. Engine?, Body?, Servo's, Receiver, Transismitter?, etc.
Also depends on if their are any spare parts.

Hi folks,-
I am living over here in Germany and in my younger days I was the first overseas team driver for associated.
I won 3 times German ChampionShips for Associated, took part in 2 Worlds (Pomona/Ca. and Geneva), met all those wonderful guys like Gene and Curtis Hustings, Bill Jianas, Roger Curtis, Butch Kroell, Chuck Phelps, Rick Davis, Pete and Repete Fusco, ect.ect.
Even Gene and the Campell Brothers from Delta came to see me at my home when they raced in Geneva.
I have given up racing a long time ago,- now my son, 19 years old, is racing and I am his pit man.
(Got 2nd. at German ChampionShip 1:8 Nitro in 2004)
As my Club plans to start with a vintage Series (Pan Cars) this year, I would love to take part with a RC 300.
Any advice where I could find one??
Thanks for any help

Dusted off my rc500 2wd and my DELTA Super J pan car and took them to my local track see how well,or if they would run.I was amazed how well the two cars were recieved. The MUGEN,SERPENT,KYOSHO,drivers wanted to see and talk about the old cars and were really blown away when they saw them running on the track!one was actually taking pictures of them with his camera phone.I talked to a club officer who said he'd like to see a vintage 2WD class started. HMMM... maybe I'll end up selling my Mugen MRX-3,had a better time with my "antiques"!

I'm sorry but I can't seem to get these photos posted (keeps telling me using too much jpeg). But what I can do is direct you to a web site that has pictures of the car the day I purchased it. WWW.NERCAR.COM is the web site,at the top of their home page you should see a box that says PHOTOS put your cursor on it and scroll down to JULY 10 & 11 , on that page about halfway to 2/3 of the way down there is four really clear pictures of my car,but I must say it looks in little better shape now...not much but a little.

Hello,
I have two RC500 2wd cars but have never formally raced them (parking lot fun). My first car I bought in about 1988-1989 after seeing an RC250 club racer run and was ready to try building my own. The kit had changed quite a bit from the original 500 (belt drive ball diff, new shock kit, etc) but was really fun to build. I bought a second 500 2wd used and have been restoring/rebuilding it (pic is of the rebuild - almost done). Parts, as you guys know, are a bit hard to find these days. I need a couple of new bodies for my cars. Any ideas where to find them or if newer bodies fit the old cars. Thanks for your time. Dave

My 500 that I bought originally will be thrashed a bit this summer but my project resto car may never see any fuel. Then maybe I'll clean up and "restore" the original and have both of the cars looking good. Thanks again and have a great day.

Im trying to find more information about 1/8 scale cars that I had. They looked a little like your Associated RC500 but they had a gear drive system, no suspension, tin gas tank with copper piping, blue radio deck, fiberglass chassis, and a similar air filter on one and the other had a smaller Rossi Factory air filter. I think they both had K&B engines. The controllers where the Futaba brown box with a black steering wheel and a side mounted throttle and brake stick. Any help in finding the makers of these cars and the date they where made can seriously help me. The body’s looked similar to the one you have. Please email me at kenoverby@hotmail.com

Yup I found a Japanese web site and found that it was a delta from the pictures. However I wonder if I had a newer generation of delta then the ones from the pictures becuase I noticed that I had parts from difforent generations to make up the car's I had.

Well thanks for that. I am glad someone has picked me up today. I have been doing supper with searching with google. It took me 2 hours to find those japanese sites. A personal best. Hope I can find something else to do for this and other threads in the near future :)

Simply click the right mouse button and select save as from the popup menu. Or if the site copy writes and doesn't alow you to save or copy then push the screen print button located usualy above the insert button on the keyboard. And simply open a image editor like Paint and select to past, then simply crop the image only and delete all the rest of the completed screen capture. :D

I just purchased an RC500 Car that was originally bought from Rick Davis from Detroit. It has Davis Mods and Graphite Parts which I believe were cut by Windsor Ontario Canada's Brad Makaric.
I also got a RC300 that was originally raced by Canada's Mario Biscaro.
Does anyone have new 8th Scale Associated unpainted bodies?
I'm currently Racing 8th Scale with a DELTA XP4 at the Ontario 1/8 On Road Racing Club in Hamilton Ontario Canada. Other Club Members show their Kyosho Dash and Parsec at Club Meetings. :teacher:
