That's what I Should get for my Stampede. Is RPM links? instead of New Turn Buckles? I Think I've seen them. Are they just the same as ones on the Truck, but built better, and stonger? black links!!!
mj_bandit
04-01-2003, 11:02 PM
How Am I gonna make a SkidPlate to go over it? Like go from one end of the truck to the other, and bolt it down? should I make it like Dip in, so I got more Clearance underneath the truck..?
corwin99
04-02-2003, 12:05 PM
It would be easier to just use like a Receiver Box like the RPM one for the T-maxx than to build a skidplate.. then u can just tap some holes and drill it straight into your chassis. But then again the easiest thing of course would be to just get an esc wire extension cord.

Why bother with rpm links, have you ever broken a stock one, if your not gaining adjustability I would say your not gaining anything. I hate how the tires are all crooked though, turnbuckles would be nice but without buying ti i dont know how you would stop breaking them. One more thing, who makes different shock rods, i have bent so many of those. I got big bores so they have to fit with that. HTnkas!
corwin99
04-02-2003, 06:51 PM
Chrome isn't dyed, its plated. And most people dont have the tools to do that.
The RPM links look cool.. i just bought a set of yellow ones for my stampede... I was thinking about getting the white, but i stuck with yellow. My slipper clutch seems to be acting weird.. i think i wore out the pegs... so I bought a set of those diff balls to try that slipper change that i heard of. Has anyone tried that?
rustlerman1
04-02-2003, 08:05 PM
corwin99 i think they would not be that good beacuase you would need to tightin the slipper, and the pegs would be squeezd when you tightin it. but the balls would not tightin they would get to a sertent point that you would not beable to tightin it. then the truck will be worse it would just slip.
thanxs zack:)

unless you are breaking them, stick with the stock links, other wise get the rpm ones...in my opinion anyways :)

Just a note on the turnbuckles...
I stole ones off my evader, ballcups and all, I had to trim about 5mm. off each end for them to fit good, but they do work. They also took some really hard hits and stayed intact.
Also a note on shock shafts; I believe MIP makes ti.

can anyone say brushless?
would this be a good idea? are there enough after market parts to make it durable w/ brushless
k_sw31
04-03-2003, 07:17 PM
brushless.
Not a good idea on a stock pede, I can tell you :p I threw my Lehner basic 5300 with 6 GP 3300s in my pede, the idler was toast in 1 minute flat :D
This was just cruising on the street too, it was flying though. I do think you would be ok with BL power with a metal idler and steel out put yokes, because I have heard a lot of people running BL in their pedes :)

04-03-2003, 07:59 PM
To get a BrushLess, don't you gotta get the Brushless System? Or can I just get a BrushLess Motor? how much are they?

i want a new motor to hold me till i get BL. i ahve a sprint esc (20t limit). wich is faster chameleon pro 2 or p2k2? any other sugg.??
k_sw31
04-03-2003, 08:51 PM
For a brushless setup, you need a brushless motor and brushless controller. The price depends on your setup, but can range anywhere from 220 to 600+ dollars. For a pede, I like the new novak system, I'd suggest it. :)
A chameleon will be much faster than a p2k2. :)

Im getting a 16x2.. Is the Trinity Caliber alright? Im thinking 14 or 15t pinon, 87t spur.
k_sw31
04-03-2003, 09:45 PM
I wouldn't get a caliber. Sure, they are cheap, but something like a speed gems pro will last you a lot longer, because you can take it in, and most likley a guy at your lhs will take it home, clean it, cut the com, replace brushes and stuff like that for 5-10 bucks :) Plus you'll need to eventually replace the armature, and that wouldn't be an option with the caliber, the onlything you can do is replace brushes.
mj_bandit
04-04-2003, 04:07 PM
My Local Hobby Shop is 1 and a 1/2 hours away....It sucks...what the Armature??????? Is that the piece the Brushed sit on? How fast do them wear out? Im thinking about a 16t DOUBLE, what should I gear it at? 15t pinion 87t Spur?

corwin99
04-04-2003, 05:28 PM
The armature is the thing that spins inside the motor can. I would highly recommend The Speedgems 2 or Pros as well if you can afford them. The Speedgems 2 Sapphire or Pro Amber are both excellent motors. I have a caliber motor and it is good for what it cost me ($13US), I would not hestitate to recommend it to someone who doesn't care if a motor is rebuildable, but if you want one that is, stick with the Speed Gems.
mj_bandit
04-04-2003, 05:57 PM
I recently had a Speed Gems 2 17t Double.. I didn't change the Brushes ALL SUMMER... didn't really notice that much of a difference in performance without changing Brushes...I took the endbell off of it... Never could get it back on.. Then endbell just slid rite off.. I don't understand why that happend.. So I THREW the ENDBELL, away.. now Alls I got is the inside of the motor. and the speed gem cover for it...It looks like Im gonna be getting that same motor again. What should I gear me 17t double at? Im probably gonna get a Pinon gear SET... its inbetween 14-17t pinon I know that. Spur Im gonna get a 87 tooth. I sure hope that ENDbell Problem doesn't come up again...gosh It made me mad I could get it back on.

hey, mj_bandit ive had the same problem i threw it away:( i did not know what to do so.. i threw it away:( that was a wast of money i guess. but why do the stinger moters dye after one run with a rooster, i killed 5 stingers.why dose the rooster do that to the stinge motors??????

I'd suggest you gear up a little bit, a little more speed is always fun, and you'll still have plenty of torque :D
mj_bandit
04-05-2003, 06:26 PM
I still haven't had anyone tell me what I should gear my stampede at? Im getting a 17t double speed gems 2. I was thinking 15 or 16t pinon, and 87t spur? Please someone give me a gearing..The tires are stock...
k_sw31
04-05-2003, 06:32 PM
Well, right off the bat, get a bunch of pinions, I'd say ranging from 14-18. For starters try like a 16 or so, and with your new assortment of gears you can fine tune it :)
If its not too late, I would order a speed gems PRO 17x2. The speed gems 2 motors are ok, but I have had a lot of experiences of where the plastic on the endbell melts extremly easily. Plus you'll get the benefits of the bigger brushes :)
Edit: here is a link if you'd like... http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCUP9&P=7

Ok I'll get that one. I was gonna get that 6 pinon set from ROBINSON. starting with the 15-25t set..with the Speed Gems Pro 17 Double.. then a 87t spur..with new crystal.

Well I finally bought a speed gem 2 saphire and geared it 15/87 with my m2ks. This thing rocks, wheelies no prob and has good top end. Im leaving the timing at 0 degrees for now so I can get longer life, longer run times and torq. Im getting better run times than my p2k2 pro. I did bust up my jeep body real good though because of those wheeleis. Hey K_sw21, can I still get one of those skid plates off u and how much.:D

I think I have a problem. A few minutes after hitting the the neighbors dog water bowl, the pede took off real slow. I could fix by trimming the throttle almost all the to full reverse. Then it got worse, and full reverse trim barely slows it down. Im thinking maybe the speedo need to be reprogrammed. Only problem is I dont have a manual. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
mj_bandit
04-06-2003, 02:47 PM
Edmonton.. Is this Geared of on your Stampede? Because Im getting a Speed Gems pro 17t Double.,.. do you suggest I gear it at 15/87? Because I want to do wheelies for SURE. But want some good High end too. Thanks.
EDMONTON
04-06-2003, 09:22 PM
Since the pro is a double and might have less torqu, I would first gear it at 14/87 and go up from there as long as nothing gets hot. Since its a double and a pro , top end wont be a problem, I have my timing at 0 and the pede does somewhere around 25mph, if I would stiffen the rear end it would wheelie on command but I dont want to lose my traction.
If you tell me what tires , esc, and batterries you have I could probably tell you exactly what gearring.:)
EDMONTON
04-06-2003, 09:23 PM
Mnmrc, what esc do you have?
mj_bandit
04-06-2003, 11:34 PM
The Stampede has Original tires. LRP f1 reverse ESC down to (16) turns. Power Maxx 2400 Mah Ni-Cd.. I got a timed charger..I Ordered a 15T Pinion, should I get a 14t Pinion instead? I also got a new Spur, I got a 87t 48 pitched Spur gear. Thanks. I want to place the order tommorrow; so Please suggest the "exact" Pinion and Spur. Thanks:D:D :D :D :D :D :D
k_sw31
04-07-2003, 08:11 PM
If you are ordering soon then I'd suggest getting 15/87. But, I think you might want to go a little high, like a 16-17 tooth. I'd just order about 3-4 pinions if I were you :)
EDMONTON
04-07-2003, 08:57 PM
I would get both the 14 and 15 but if I could only do 1 I would gear 15/87, Just check the esc, battery and motor every couple of minutes to see if they get hot. Oh and if possible get deans no loss connectors to replace the tamiya style. You will get more run time slight performance gain and most importantly, less heat. I would also set the timing at 0 and go up from there or even stay there if you use reverse alot.
mj_bandit
04-07-2003, 09:30 PM
Well, I'll just wait for the order, save some more money, and get like 4 pinions. Are Deans plugs hard to SODER to the thing? I bought a sodering iron, So Im sure I can do it. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D How do I set the timing at 0?:( I use Reverse ALOT... so How do I do that please? And the last Motor I had, The endbell I couldn't get back on rite. That little metal piece inside, I didnt know how to get it back on tight? It would always slid off, I don't understand why it didn't tighten.
rustlerman1
04-08-2003, 06:16 PM
mj_bandit,first i dont know how to set timing at 0:[ :[ :[ :[ . I dont think the deans are hard to solder on:) I use the deans on my battery and rooster:) .BUt i dont uce deans on my motor,i dont use anything on my motor.i just have the wires soldered on the motor right from the rooster:D. I think it puts more power in to the motor:D :D :D.
thanxs zack
mj_bandit
04-08-2003, 06:30 PM
Well, you mean, you cut the little plugs off, and soder the neg and Pos, to the neg and pos on the ESC? I didn't know you could do that..Do you gotta cut the wires off one at a time? then soder it?:D :D :D
rustlerman1
04-08-2003, 06:40 PM
hey mj_bandit, ok let me get this straight i have deans on my batt and rooster[esc] then on my motor i have no plugs or anything i just have them soldered on to the motor.I just cut the stock motor plugs off and soldered the neg to neg and pos to pos... It is very easy i think..:D :D :D

04-08-2003, 06:45 PM
Ok, Now I understand. Think I should do that with my New motor when I get it? But, don't you gotta put tape around where You made the Soder.. so they don't touch each other? or can you just make the Soder on each wire, in two different places, so they don't touch/????:):):D
rustlerman1
04-08-2003, 07:08 PM
mj_bandit i think you sould do that to the motor it will puy more power in to it...ya you can put tape or shrink tube.Shrink tube is the best to use.You just slip the shrink tube on get a litter and heat it up then it shrinks lol:D :D :D

Well, the pede and rusty are essantialy the same, except the main chassis are different. I would suggest the pede, the higher ground clearance makes it a more exciting basher, plus easier wheelies :D
EDMONTON
04-09-2003, 09:41 PM
The pede is def. a better basher, great for beginers and can be upgraded enough to satisfy us nuts:p

I cannot really tell what is wrong with your rooster through the grammar realated errors, but if it does not work, send it in, and you will get a "remanufactured" esc back, for about 30$, depending on a model :D

Yea, I got my order from Tower Hobbies today, I put the Pinion gear on, and it starting to eat up my SPUR, it was a 15t pinon, and the SPUR I got, doens't fit rite on the Thing, I got a Robinson Pinion, and its alot different fitting than what I had, so I put my original one back on, and it works good now but, the thing will run for about 5 Minutes, then it will slowly make a clicking noise, And then tottaly not work, it comes loose, so then I gotta RE-tighten the Pinion gear, I don't know why its not staying on tight. I ALWAYS have problems with my Pinion too, I just ALWAYS do, GOD it gets me under my skin so mad.

Just to make sure mjbandit, but your tightening the set screw onto the flat side of the shaft right? And the pinion and spur gear are the same pitch right? :)
mj_bandit
04-16-2003, 12:04 AM
Yea, its the Original Stock Gearing. I orderd a NEW spur, but its tottaly different than the STOCK spur.. THE one I ordered is FLAT, it like doesn't have the builded up part, where is causes it to come out, so the PINION gear fits it perfect. This new one goes RITE against the plastic and isan't rite. I can try it again, make sure the Pinion is on the FLAT fart of The motor. But My SPur, Got like a little messed up from the Robinson Pinion I orderd, I floored it, and it made a little stripping on the Spur. Im just feed up with it all, I got NO LOCAL HOBBY shop anywhere near Me.

04-16-2003, 12:28 PM
I use Robinson Racing pinions with my Traxxas spur gears with no problem at all. The one time i DID have a problem was when I didn't mesh the gears close enough together and started to strip one of my spurs.
The clicking sound that you hear COULD be the set (grub) screw for the pinion hitting the Spur. I've noticed that with the lower toothed pinions than the set screw will hit the spur when it comes around.. You have to put the pinion in backwards and pull it out so its almost at the end of the motor bar thing. That might be your problem.. not sure tho.
mj_bandit
04-16-2003, 12:32 PM
Well, I don't know why the new Pinion I put on there Stripped up my SPUR.. I wanted to Wheelie, but I don't even know if it would wheelie with a 15T pinion on there that worked. It's a 18t Pinion on there rite now. I can wheelie by SLAMMing to reverse and punching forward, otherwise the normal way it barely comes up the ground, on like Carpet surface.
EDMONTON
04-16-2003, 07:38 PM
What motor do you have? and what size of spur?
mj_bandit
04-16-2003, 10:46 PM
I got a Trinity Speed Gems PRO 17t Double. IF i PUT THE pinion on backwards, theres no bar there. Its not long enough to put it on the other way. Would it do wheelies with that 15T pinion gear? rite now it has a 18t pinion in it.:D
k_sw31
04-16-2003, 11:07 PM
You should be able to wheelie just fine
corwin99
04-17-2003, 11:56 AM
I can wheelie mine with a Speed Gems Sapphire... contrary to what a lot of people on here say, I would have recommended the Sapphire over the Pro Amber, the single provides more punch.
I would guess that you should still be able to wheelie with the 18T pinion on carpet. Make sure you are using the 87T spur and not the 84T spur. Mine came with 2 and the instructions told me to use the 84, but the 87 will give you more torque.
Also getting better tires might help.. and again.. make sure your slipper isn't too loose otherwise you'll be losing all your power there. you could also try adding weight to the back and adding some preload spacers to your rear shocks to stiffen them up.
mj_bandit

Yea.. I noticed my SPUR, doesn't have a SPRING on it???? its just the Nut against the SPur.. Should I take the SPRING off my Bandit.. and put it on my STAMPEDE... how do I know it even has a Slipper clutch??? I can't remember if it had one when I bougt it or not. I bought it RTR.. about 4 years ago.

I can Get the front end to come up a LITTLE on carpet.. I can Wheelie EASY by putting it in Reverse.. but that sucks. I don't want to put that 15t pinion back on. if its gonna eat up my SPUR.......:(:(:( I got the one I had on it Tight now.. but I don't know what to do.

Yes you should have a spring on there, and I am guessing that you do have a slipper because thats about how old my pede is, and it still has a slipper. :)

I notice, theres a little PLAY in the SPUR? it can move like.. a little bit.. Should that be normal???? Im gonna put the spring on there rite now..How hard should I tighten it?:D
k_sw31
04-17-2003, 05:23 PM
Screw it on tight, then back it out 1/4 to 1/2 a turn, thats generally a good ball park setting. :)
Is the play like a wobble of the spur or does the whole shaft slide back and forth?
if the whole thing just slides back and forth a little you should be fine. :)
mj_bandit
04-17-2003, 05:51 PM
Yea.. the whole SHAFT moves a little bit.. im gona go try and put it on..:)
k_sw31
04-17-2003, 06:01 PM
Well, all you need to do to fix the whole shaft moving problem is to put some shims on it INSIDE the tranny, but dont worry about it unless there is a significant wobble.

yea well. I F'D it ALL up again. I tried putting the SPRING on the spur. It wasen't matched up rite.. The spur got Stripped again. Im just gonna bring it to my HOBBY CENTER 1 1/2 hours away. I got a new Spur, and New Pinion Gear. The guy recommended a 16t pinion.. Didn't have any..so I got a 15t pinion, and a 18t pinion..He said For "Wheelie Popping Fun" go with the 16t or 15t pinion.. SO I put the pinion on.. and It went on PERFECT.. I got the Screw all the way tightend.. with NO problems.. I don't get why the other one wouldn't tighten..But this one was plastic he gave me.. also LOOked alot like the OLD one I had.. I one I mentioned earlier that stripped My spur was Metal.. and looked liked it had Smaller teeth and stuff..If it pops Wheelies, Im gonna be happy..He said he had HIS pede going about 32-35 mph...With a SUPER rooster esc, and a Speed gems motors... Any of you got your Stampede's going about 35mph?????:D :D

Yea.. I put the 18t pinion on... I didn't wheelie. I put the 15t pinion... She STILL don't stand up.. but I can get it off the ground a LITTLE bit.. I can EASLY ride em going in reverse.. but Everyone said I should be able to Wheelie with a 15t Pinion, with the motor I got... OH WELL.. GOD its ALOT faster.. I can't believe how much faster It goes. Im thinking about a NEW servo? What would you guys suggest for about 35$..I heard HITEC are good servos... I want the Connection to work with whatever I get. Theres like "J's and "S's" for connections on the 605bbJ and 605bbS.. That looks like a good Servo for 30$.

OH the stampede I dont think has a SLIPPER.. because it came with the SPUR ADAPTER.. but my Bandit has the little spring. I don't think it has a slipper clutch. I am just worried that It may not have enough articulation to get over large objects. I know 2wd isn't the best for crawling, but I want something fairly fast that can clear the occasional curb 4" tall rock. Is the pede up to this
**
Does anyone have any pics showing the suspension articulation of a stock stampede? I want to see how much the suspension can clear.
thanks.

Well, dont bother getting bearings for the stock carriers, they will blow up so quick it isn't even funny. If you are gonna do bearings then buy the rpm carriers for them.
With the esc, you should be ok, because most escs are saftey rated up a turn or two. But remember, if you fry it you will have no warrenty coverage.

corwin99
04-22-2003, 01:01 PM
MPTech.. those tires say "Imex Road Dawg" on them so i'm guessing that's the kind of tires they are.
I also want to reiterate what K_sw said about the stock bearing carriers.. i still have yet to buy some RPM bearing carriers for the rear (i bought the front ones when my stock ones broke)... the bearings work ok in the stock carriers if you are just driving around in the grass or dirt, but once you take them out somewhere and launch your car off a jump, they're toast. I took the car out jumping on dirt with 3/4 of a battery pack... and i broke both bearings on the rear left wheel... then i took it out jumping again on concrete, the day that i shot that video there, and i broke both the rear stock bearings in one pack. I'm only using them cuz I have so many 5x8mm bearings kicking around. The front bearing carriers have been fine since, though i think they probably have less stress on them than the rear ones.

Well, this is a guess but I am thinking around 28-30 or so. I think you will be satisfied with the speed. :)
Well, I never toasted an idler gear (only with brushless), but I did screw up the outdrives with that motor (have steel yokes now). But I know pudder has stripped 2-3 idler gears with a 19 turn. Since they are only 13$ or so I suggest you just go and buy one and be done with it. :)

Hey... Anyone of you got them Steel Skid's on their Stampede???? I see alot of People with RPM wide Bumper, why is that. ALSO how much is a 18t compared to a 15t Pinion gear different In TOP END speed? Because I want a little it MORE top END speed and my 15t has alot of Torque.. but not enough to wheelie:(:( so I figure go back to a 18t:rolleyes:
k_sw31
04-23-2003, 12:39 AM
Well, the reason why no one buys the aluminum skids is because the are pretty much for looks. If you hit something they will bend up. Plus the pretty blue anodizing will get scuffed up with any off roading at all. The rpm bumper is a much better choice because it is super durable and flexible, cheap, and it doesn't matter when you scuff it. :)
I suggest you try a 16-17 tooth pinion.

They work nice..BUT add some weight to the front end:( Mayby I need to get about a 16t Single motor to Wheelie.. with about a 14tooth Pinion:(:(:( Its too bad My Stampede don't wheelie. Also I got a batterie Question..I've had my Power Maxx 2400's for about 8 months. I ran them, then let them sit for about 4 months. Now I started running them again. ALOT, and I got about 6 minutes run time.. I got a 17t Double motor. Is this Normal run time? What batteries do you suggest I get next?:D
k_sw31
04-23-2003, 11:05 PM
Oh, those batteries are the problem why you are not wheelieing!
I have heard NOTHING but bad things about those peak power maxx batts, I have heard they lose most of their life after ten runs. Is your charger capable of charging Ni-mh batteries? If so then I would suggest you get a GP3300 stick pack from www.promatchracing.com and if you can't charge ni-mhs, try a good name brand cell stick pack (such as sanyo) that is around 2400 mah, such as this (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXST62&P=7) one. :)
I really betcha you'll be pullin wheelies with new batts. :)

I would go with the Trinity 3000 6-Cell Racing Pack, This battery is long lasting and has long run times :).I have one of these batterys and i get 45 min's , with a 17t motor,15t pinion, rooster:) :)

Yea.. I want New shocks all around my Stampede.. AND my bandit.. I got a Pair of threaded purple shocks from this guy and put them on my Bandit. But their a LITTLE bit longer than the old ones on the bandit.. so my back end is raised up More..and the axles are a little bit more bent.. Is this gonna hurt anything??? I have a hard time trying to find Shocks that fit rite. What size are the ones on the STAMPEDE.. front AND back.. also for the Bandit. What size are them.. anyone know??? Will the ones I put on there work.. the back end is just up a little bit, with the axles more bent. Thanks alot. What shocks you guys got on your Pede's?
corwin99
04-25-2003, 12:31 PM
if you want to shorten the shocks, then try putting a spacer on the shaft inside the shock body to limit the travel. raising the rear end up a bit will probably adversely affect the handling, and if the axels are too bent then you'll have more drag, so it'll probably be a bit slower.
About the stampede shocks, from what i've seen the xx-long ones in the back of the stampede are about 4".. so anything that will fit a T/E-maxx, Clod, Jugg, HPI MT would fit it. They all use 4" shocks. the ones in the front are about 3.5". I'm not sure what you could use in the front. The easiest replacement for the stock shocks on your stampede is the Traxxas Big Bore shocks..
I haven't tried sticking 4" shocks on the front of the stampede has anyone here had any luck with that?
SixVi6-Camaro

yeah the front Pede shocks are a weird length. Rears are eazy. I have AE shocks there were on my t-maxx on the back of my pede but the front I have some ancient shocks that were on my original blackfoot. you could look into some duratrax evader front shocks... like these (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAMK1&P=7) or These (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCXS3&P=7). one is roughly 3.6" the other is 3.3".

yeah the front bumper was on there until just a few days ago. I had 7 cells and the torque monster Mag Meyham in there. This week I put in the Novak BL and am not too used to the top speed it has. It fliped at high speeds and crashed pretty good into a large rock. The bumber split at the screws and the front bulkhead now has a small crack in it. I have a new bulkhead ready to put on but the LHS didn't have any bumpers in stock. soon it will have a bumper back on it.

so far I love it. geared 18/84 runing 6 cells its got lot of torque and easily does wheelies just like my old Mag Meyham 7 cells but the Bl has tremendous RPM as well. Run times are just as good as with my 7 cell MM motor setup. I'm runing MIP CVD's and RPM bearing carriers all round. No Al idler gear installed yet but I did buy it last time I was at the LHS. I will probably just install it this weekend if I get the chance just to be better safe than sorry.

k_sw31
04-26-2003, 01:49 PM
Mj_bandit, yes, brushless systems are hella fast and very expensive. I have a lehner setup (www.rumrunnerhobbies.com) and I touch a little over 40 in my t3 on moderate gearing and 6 cells :D.
But for you I'd suggest the novak system. The throttle control is a lot smoother, you wont have as much power as my lehner setup but you will still get long runtimes.
And yes, there is now maintenence :D
ssclone- sounds like a good trade. :)
BTW, I think you will have a hard time finding room for 14 cells on a pede, it doesn't even need that many. You should be fine with 7 at the most. :)

04-26-2003, 02:07 PM
Yea I hear some guys got 6-14 cells on there PEDE???/ how do you hook up MOre than 7 cells? Because they only come in 6-7 cell sticks???? Can I get a Y-harness and plug it into my ESC then put two battereies on the end of that? or what do I gotta do to get more cells.. how much faster Will I go If I did that, somehow?
k_sw31
04-26-2003, 02:12 PM
well, the most I have ever heard of someone fitting in their pede is 10, and that was running brushless. Even adding 1 cell boost power majorly, since you get a lot more volts to the motor. To fit 10 cells in you either build a custom pack or built two packs and hook them up with a y-harness to the esc. But there is a trade off, runtimes are shorter, and the wear on the motor is much worse, most brushed motors aren't meant to do over 7 cells anyways.

Chances are, your brushes will burn, your comm will wear fast, motor will get very hot, and you'll fry your esc. I would not suggest it.
I tried 12 cells with a super rooster (its capable of handling that many cells) with a stinger, the damn thing got so hot so fast one of the brushes fell out. I dont recommend it. :p

this weekend I ran 6 packs through my pede. first pack in a grassy field in a forest preserve was great. second pack I turned hard it fliped a couple times. then it landed with no power geting to the ground. I had snaped a CVD at the drive cup end. I bought replacement bones.
next day I ran another pack at a bash track jumping it a bit and having fun in the dirt. the second pack I snaped a CVD again at the axle! I then replace the CVD's with the steel yolks and plastic sliders. run another pack, no jumping, just driving across a field its fine. The next pack on the pede, no jumping, just accross the field and it snaps a slider at the u joint!
So I've had it.. I'm puting my old mag meyham back in the pede and droping the Bl in my TC3. I've run mod motors in my TC3 so I know it can handle the power BL has.
corwin99
04-28-2003, 12:08 PM
That's brutal.. Its amazing how much stress a brushless puts on your system. I've never run one.. but i've been thinking about buying one for a while. I just spent my paypal balance on a new Clodbuster chassis so no BL for me for now :)
12 cells: If you use a Y-harness wouldn't you be wiring the thing in parallel not get any increase in voltage? You'd have to string it together with a Modified harness to wire the batteries in Series so you get an actualy 14.4V battery. Either that or my electronics knowledge is fading on me or there are different types of Y-harnesses. But when i ran 2 packs in a RC Boat with a y-harness they would simply give my boat twice the amount of runtime and zero increase in speed.. actually slower cuz of weight.

she will go faster but i dont think that motor will last very long at all. im running 12 cells cuz the titans can handle that much juice. it wouldnt hurt for just 1 try, but if i were you id jut buy a 3300mAh pack and you'll have the juice or maybe get a 7 cell pack as well.

Well, if there is a lhs you can stop by, there will usually be someone who can take motors, clean them, skim the comms, replace brushes etc. (whole motor rebuild, basically) for around 10$.
For brushes you will need these: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCUL9&P=7

Do you guys think duratrax will come out with a 2wd MT to compete with the stampede? I think they will probably come out with a monster truck version of the evader if they do. What do you all think will happen? I still probably wouldnt buy it over the stampede, but the pede is about the only very good 2wd MT out there thats very cheap and popular. By the way, can you put different brushes than the stock ones in your motor, and will it have any performance gain?

I can't drive it either.. its like Almost tottaly Dead.. But the Batterie in the Truck is charged.. I don't get whats going on. I COULD recharge two more of the batteries in the controller.. but that wont make a difference.. but the weird thing is.. it started blinking AFTER I recharged the batteries the first time???

Traxxas is getting rid of all their kits?!?! what??!?! That sucks.
As much as the Stampede was a pain to do because the instructions weren't up to date and there were mistakes, I would much rather buy the kit than an RTR vehicle. I guess with the success of the Maxx they realize they dont have to offer Kits to get buyers.
Are they just going to release RTR or will they have at least Prebuilt too so we can add our own radio gear?

Mine's in peices too.. (OT) along with my Clodbuster which I am waiting for new oil shocks for my new cantilever suspension :) I wonder why they never use independent cantilever suspension for trucks... i only see if on solid axel vehicles.
Has anyone ever used those shocks with the piggy back oil reservoirs? How are they different? what's the point besides looking real trick?

I recently Posted a Message about my Controller Light blinking.. and I recharged My Batteries.. but it still did it.. so I recharged all of them.. and It still goes really slow.. it wont GO fast at all.. Whats going on????????ALSO.. my batteries only get like 4 minute run times.. first 2 minutes.. got ALOT of punch.. then dies down.. I don't got a PEAK charger.. But Im getting new Batts to Wheelie.:D :D :D :D

What won't go fast? your car? It sounds like you are talking about your Radio, which really shouldn't "go" anywhere :)
If you're talking about your Car, your car going fast shouldn't have anything to do with your Radio batteries being low... but your ability to control it and said fast speed might.... if your batteries are starting to go bad, they will start to have a lot of punch in the beginning, then have decreased run times.. this appears to be normal behaviour for NiCad cells as they begin to die. Before your get some good packs, you might want to invest in a decent Peak Charger like the pirahna digital or the MRC Super brain. your batteries will last much longer.

MOTOR
You would not be able to runt he 15t motor with the stock gearing. You have to 13t 87t or 13t 90t, you will be happy with that. That will give you lost of tqouk and speeeeed lot of speed! I would go with the Trinity motors they are the bets motor s out there, if you are going with the 15t, go with the Trinity Speed Gem Pro Titanite 15T Double Motor. That motor is the best[ I think] the 17t motor is alright, not that great[In my opion].
ESC
You should go with the super rooster or the rooster. But i got a Associated F1 Super w/Reverse that esc is asome, i had no problems with that esc and the rooster[I got both esc rooster and Associated F1 Super w/Reverse]

Will be able to handle lower turn motors incase I decide to run a 13T or 14t in the TL-01 but with the rooster having a reverse disability, I find that a neat feature. Gonna think about it. What I might do is just get a speedgems for the TL01 and a 17t orion rush motor for the Pede.

Well, I was looking at getting one of these some day. I was wondering if this was a good basher. Do you guys know where I can get these for the best price? How fast are these out of the box? If I could get it in a kit form, it'd be great too.
thanks in advance guys:)

This is the best basher truck you will ever find. It will take more abuse than what i can throw at it. I bought mine in kit form from tower hobbies for $77 about 3-4 months ago, and i do not regret it at all(i have heard they quit making the kit but i dont know...i sure hope not). I have not broken a single thing on it except the futaba steering servo gears i had in it. Out of the box it goes about 20mph, and has many different gearing options due to the fully adjustable motor mount. The stock stinger 20 turn motor is also fairly fast, and i have had a blast with mine every time i drive it. The building instructions that come with the kit are also pretty good, and it was my first kit, and i didnt have any problem building it. Overall this is an absolutley awesome truck, and even though it is two wheel drive it goes really good due to the great ground clearence. This is the best most reliable truck you can get for the money in my opinion.

I ordered the kit 4 days ago from greathobbies. It only cost me 220 $(canadian!!)for the kit and sanyo 3300 batterie pack.I still didn't receive it. I've heard good things about these batts, (some bad...). Do any of the transmission parts fit with a monster beetle tranny? Cuz I have 2 fully hoped up and ready, unless the stampede doesn't need tranny upgrades. It says that there is only bearings in the tranny but IS it full full full bearings and no bushings too, every where? Is the diff ajustable ? Theres a slipper clutch rigth?
gee im nervous, I suddenly dont know s**t about what I bougth...
O yea, what t-max bodys fit well on it. I saw a hummer on it , looked pretty good but now that theres one just for the stampede, so what other t-max body fits and looks good on the stampede??
I've been looking around for hopups. Not much to look at that is. All I've seen for the electric is a carbon chassis , mip cvds.Theres also aluminium arms for the nitro version but I dont know if they fitthe eelectric version.

First of all, dont worry. I got worried when i first bought mine, but now i realize there was no need in it. The differential is not adjustable, but there is a slipper clutch(when assembling the slipper clutch flip to the back of the assembly book and follow how the diagram shows it going together because following the steps it shows in the book only shows how to put it together without a slipper)(also be careful putting on A-arms making sure they are on the right side, and when assemblin the yokes have patients and dont get frustrated because they are kind of hard to put on). It comes with FULL bearings for the transmission, but it comes with some metal bushings for the wheels(2 per wheel). I dont know about t-maxx bodies or monster beetle trannies, but ive heard the idler gear in the stampedes tranny is weak(they make aluminum upgrade idlers), but ive had no trouble out of mine. Like i said, dont worry. You have just bought the most reliable fun truck out there.

corwin99
05-20-2003, 01:31 PM
The stampede uses standard 12mm hexes for the wheels.. the only thing you are going to have to worry about when buying new wheels for it is that the offset is correct. Associated wheels have a different offset and the front and rear stampede wheels are different as well... you'll see when you put it together.
RPM makes some cool wheels, blue claws and the slingshots are nice too. Also remember that when you're buying 2.2's that you might want something bigger like IMEX Claw Dawgs or J-Hawgs.. smaller 2.2's might make it look like a stadium truck with hydroliX. :)

wow that's a lot of cash to put into a pede... i decided to keep my pede upgrades to a minimum since it is a low-end truck. Ended up dumping my resources into my Clod. Now THAT's a monster truck.
I recently installed some turnbuckles with yellow RPM ball cups and got the rear RPM bearing carriers as well.. those damn bearings kept breaking, and i was using up the last ones. corwin99
05-26-2003, 11:54 AM
getting some high voltage cells will probably make it wheelie from a standstill... I always rebuild my stick packs into side x side packs when i get them (except for the TL-01) that creates less resistance and more voltage. I havent' actually tried a pack both ways on the same truck to see if it makes a difference, but the stick packs i have are not as punchy as the rebuilt ones.
Also try adding preload spacers to the rear shocks.. the stock shocks and shock oil are really soft without any preload and will often absorb the wheelie before it happens.
With a hotter motor in mine i should be able to make it flip onto its lid from a standstill.. but right now its not powerful enough. I think my motor did flip it onto its lid in the beginning, but its slowly getting weaker.
Running the 15/87 Gearing is about right for your 17T motor.. especially if you're running it off-road.

if you got a 15minute charged I would suggest you get a better charger first so you don't ruin any good battery packs that you get... as for cheap packs good packs, try ebay. there are matchers on there that sell packs pretty cheap. otherwise there's not a lot that's all that good that you can get for under $40. and you'd need NiCD's too with your charger.
I don't know how your spur could have been stripped.. maybe some dirt got in your gearbox?

my stampede has mip cvds, trinity speed gems pro 17t amber, rpm bearing carriers and bearings and a mtroniks/carson esc, 3000mh and it only lifts off the ground, mabey because how I have the suspension, I have to bring to a complete stop on every turn or it will roll over. I don't really care about wheelies but it would be cool. I wish I had someone to race with; the Germans are a little too into on-road stuff and the lhs is almost dedicated to it, they say they are considering opening a track which would be awesome. I like your site corwin its well done for a personal site, you have the same heatsink andhad to do the same thing but yours is a lot more neat than my hack job

thanks.. i appreciate the compliment :) I do web design professionally as well so my personal site tends to reflect that. You have a nice setup on your Pede... maybe its the preload on your shocks and the slipper or the pinion that you are using? i got new tires for my pede.. im waiting on them in the mail.. i hope they dont affect the Rollout too much or i'm going to have to get a new pinion again.
I love on-road myself... i actually prefer it to off-road, but off-road allows much more possibilities especially when ur just bashing like me. I'm thinking about starting up a club/track or something. Not sure how i will go about it though.

Its like the Spur gear isan't even attached to anything or something. It's confusing. I've always had problems Stripping Spur Gears and getting the motor in rite. ERRRRRRRRRR I just got a new batt too. I want to try to ride a wheelie. I need help bad. When I spin the wheels freely,is the Spur gear supposed to spin too? Because it doesn't? I know one company made a hummer body for the stampede recently it looks cool i think it was proline, my idler gear stripped after some jumping and i got an aluminium one from traxxas. whats the deal with the preload shock things? if you put them on will it be more likely to wheelie or something? I don't what it effects. My first car is a tamiya rally car and i switched to off road because it would get stuck on almost anything, which is not the case with the stampede.
corwin99
06-03-2003, 02:07 PM
when you add preload spacers to the stampede it raises the ride height slightly and also stiffens up the shocks.. the ride may get a little bouncier and the landings might not be as cooshy, but it makes the shocks less likely to absorb all the power that would aid the truck in doing a wheelie.

Wheels can fit all the way around, but remember, the front has a wider off set, so rotating tires is not a good idea, and handling will suffer.
I believe the evader st shocks work fine for the pede.

You only need paddle tires if you are going to run in really loose dirt, or sand (I do NOT recommend running in sand!).
They are also good for snow, but for all around use they are not practical.

I would say go with either dirt hawgs or masher 2ks.

I believe the evader st shocks work fine for the pede.
How can the wheels fit all around? Don't the front wheels hold bearings and the rear wheels do not?

On the nitro pede that is the case. But for some reason, traxxas designed the front axles to spin on bushing, and the wheels take hexes. But, there is quite an off set in the front.

Hey.. I want to get a Brushless System for one of my rc's. I got a Stampede..and a Bandit. the Bandit has no electronics in it rite now..But I got some RPM bearing carriers, and the 5x11 Bearings in it. The stampede has Stock bushings. I dont know if I should put the BL system in my Pede, or my Bandit.. I would wheelie easly in the Pede.. but Bandit would be faster. I got a 17x2 Motor, and a Lrp ESC in it rite now.. I want to go alot faster.. I put a 13 tooth Pinion on,and a New 2400 Batt and it STILL don't wheelie..So I need help deciding what to do? The pede DOES NOT, have a Slipper Clutch.. the Bandit does have one. Thanks.:D

You probably should be wheeling easy in your pede with a 13 tooth pinion. It sounds like you need to go through and clean out your motor, maybe replace the brushes.
I would say go with the novak brushless right now...

yeah i agree with k_sw on this one.. you should be wheelie-ing to the point where it drives you nuts with a Speed Gems pro 17x2 and a 13T pinion. You dont have a slipper so its not that... hmm... how odd. The Novak brushless system is a possibility.. i'd put it in the pede.. it can make better use of it.

My 15t pinion is screwed up so im using a 19t one for a 17t motor, you think that will be too much even if I go easy on it? I dont want to fry my motor but I think if I dont push it, it may be ok.

You might be ok, but remember, if the motor is too hot for you to hold a finger on it for 5 seconds, then definatly gear down!

does anyone run the aluminum idler with the steel top gear?? I wondered if that is safe. I don't want to strip the aluminum b.c it was about 15 dollars, right?
k_sw31

You will not strip an aluminum gear in an rc car.
