And try putting a paper towel between the servo hub and adapter.
And are the motors fully broken in?

HORRIBLE MOTOR NOISE.
Don't worry, its normal. I have a Super Rooster, and mine does the same thing at extremely low throttle. Its hard to explain WHY it does this. It has to do with the FETs in the ESC. (Frequency Emmitting Diodes).
Just learn to be ok with the fact that it is perfectly normal. :D Now, the true joy of a Super Rooster is the throttle response throughout the entire range. You can have the truck BARELY moving, and still have complete control over the trottle. No jerky motion here folks! Its GREAT for rock crawling. :)

what kind of motors and ESC should i put in my txt-1. i am going to be useing it for everything i want a lont of turque and speed can anybody give me and idea?
NitroRookie
10-30-2002, 09:17 PM
I've been talking about this with Hairball. And he suggested to me to use a Novak Super Rooster ESC. As for motors I'd say either use the stock motors or some 12-14T speed gems.
Hairball
10-30-2002, 09:47 PM
Super Rooster, yes. Only way to go. (Dual super rooster is you wanna be cool and spend lots of cash doing it).
Motors, stay with a higher wind mod. 19x2 with stock gearing is FAST. 23x2 is what I'm going to try this weekend. Should be perfect.
Novak's Brushless motors will probably be perfect. Not INSANELY fast like the BL motors we have right now, a more mild "brush motor" replacement.
Thats the way I'll be going most likely. ZERO maintenance... hehe
Ronin1973
10-31-2002, 04:32 AM
Looks like someone got you sold on to the brushless idea m8:D
I'll let you know how my lehner setup works out.
I should finally be getting it today or tommorrow.
Hairball
10-31-2002, 05:11 AM
I started doing some SERIOUS research on Brushless motors. I'm install a dual Hacker system (Two C50s and two controllers, 8 cell pack per motor) in my E-Maxx.
Its going to be fast as all hell, but expensive as well. hehe
The Novak system is supposed to be more like brushed motors, and affordable too. :p
txt-117
10-31-2002, 05:23 AM
how about two Trinity Speed Gem 2 Amethyst 17T Double Motor with super rooster or
two Kyosho Magnetic Mayhem Reverse 22x1 with super roster what do you think about that would those be a good setup?
Hairball
10-31-2002, 05:39 AM
Question - Do you have a motor lathe?
If not, you're going to destroy mod motors... :) They require frequent brush changes and comm cuts to keep them running strong. The low gearing of the TXT-1 (stock ratio 30 to 1) is hell on motors. :)
NitroRookie
10-31-2002, 02:10 PM
So it's best to stick with the stock motors or go brushless if someone wants to change motors. That way you can save money from having to buy a motor lathe.
krisI.925
10-31-2002, 02:24 PM
not nessarily. I think a good pair of stock motors like the Chameleon Pro 2s would work very well. Especialy with about 8 cells.
Hairball
10-31-2002, 03:05 PM
They will work for awhile. But then they'll start running horrible, and need to be taken out to but cut.
And taking the motors out of a TXT-1 is not a run thing to do. :p :p
NitroRookie
11-01-2002, 11:37 PM
How would I attach the tops of dual vertical shocks to each corner on a TXT-1 ?
Hairball
11-02-2002, 04:29 AM
Actually, there are mounts for dual vertical shock on the TXT-1 already.
If you look at the base of the body mount brackets, there are two holes on each black peice in the four corners of the truck. These are to mount shocks on.

Been there, done that. :D
The stock motors magically transform into mild mod motors! Then get really hot though. :p
Heat sinks are a must, and lots of time between runs to let the motors cool down. Its works great though. Much faster than stock.
Now, use the EVX and use a setup of 19x2 mods and you'll have a wheelie poppin beast on your hands, but your go through tranny gears like water. hehe About 5 - 6 runs per gear set.

What kind of setup do you have in you txt??
Hairball
11-02-2002, 06:32 PM
I ran my stockers with the EVX A LOT and never ruined them, they still work just fine. :) I used heat sinks on the motors too.
The batterys will get hot, so keep an eye on them first couple of runs. If possible, don't use your best packs. Lots of extra hear on the batterys will shorten there life span. My 2000s are still working pretty good, so I use those for the TXT-1 thrashing.

I use Deans for th motors, and Trinity R-Minus for the batterys.
I assemble my own batteries. No hard, just takes a little extra time. :)
With the EVX, you are forced to use TWO six-cell packs. Well, actually, you can use two seven-cell packs via www.traxxas.com.

and if you put it in your truck how is it going to be on rocks?

if someone has a video on a txt with an e-maxx tranny in it i would really like too see it.

Hairball
11-06-2002, 05:52 PM
Yes, its worth it.
You can gear the E-Maxx tranny to match the stock tranny, so you wouldn't even notice the difference if you wanted it that way. The point of it is that the E-Maxx tranny is stronger.
You need a 3ch radio if you want to use the 2 speeds of the tranny. Its not hard to lock it in one gear if you don't want to mess with a shifter. I find that I leave mine in low gear 90% of the time anyway....

krisI.925

the tamiya shafts can handle more HP. But the traxxas sliders dont ware out like the tamiya ones do. But under a lot of power they will twist and bend.

You should really try the new 2.5 sliders then, you could order them from Hua. Worst case you lose out $15, but if they can handle brushless torque, then they should handle stockmotors.
I just blew the stock rear wheel lockout, need to find some way to improve it without drilling through the axles or axle braces.

Ronin im glad your BL motor is working well for you. I still have yet to reciever mine probably because i ordered a warrior ESC and you ordered a standard controller. BTW how many cells are you running.
And anyone wouldnt happen to know when rum runner will get a new shipment in do you?
Ronin1973
11-12-2002, 08:36 PM
I ordered mine from BK directly seeing as I live in the Netherlands and they're in Germany(next door), but it still took 3 1/2 weeks for them to deliver.
I didn't get the warrior esc because you can't program it , although I must add that I've not been able to program my esc due to the fact that the software doesn't work under winxp.
So I can't say for sure if the programmable features are worth the extra money. Some of these features should make for smoother running, less stutter on startup. I'll let you know as soon as I have access to a system with win98
I'm running 8cell rc2400 pushed and matched battpacks at the moment giving me 11.3V, they don't even get warm. The esc does get pretty hot though, but no thermals.
I have the TXT geared really low, but with the emaxx tranny I'm getting plenty of speed, all I'll need for a TXT. Haven't even used the 2nd gear yet.
The torque is amazing, wheelies on command, that kinda stuff :D
The driveline is holding out fine even the sliders(2.5).
I need to customize the rear wheel lockout, seeing as I bust the stock one already and I'm going to widen the wheelbase, hoping it will be a little more stable at high ;) speed cornering.
Lemme know if you've got any more questions.

in my opinion the TXT-1 is better than any other electric monster trucks dont believe me. fine tell me whats better about the others and i will tell you why your wrong.
Hairball
11-15-2002, 03:13 AM
HA! You're funny.
I think I can honestly say I know more than most about the TXT-1. I have three, I've done TONS of mods to mine ( www.txt1.net ), and have spent WAY too much money on them. :)
I think the TXT-1 is very cool, but also very WEAK! Some very simple things must be done to the stock kit if you plan to have any fun with it.
Its the best out of the Tamiya line of trucks (Clodbuster, Juggernaut, etc), but I think there are other trucks that are more fun "out of the box" than the TXT-1. The E-Maxx, for example, is fun out of the box, and pretty durable as well. The TXT-1 out of the box, is a big truck that goes really slow, and breaks if you look at it funny.
Modified, I think the TXT-1 is the best, but *BONE STOCK* it falls behind.
Another down point to the TXT-1, is that its for people with LARGE incomes. $400 for the kit, PLUS ELECTRONICS! If you want to have fun with a TXT-1, you're going to spend like, $650 - $800 minimum (I think I got about $1600 in just ONE of my TXT-1s).
E-Maxx? Umm, $400, + some batterys and a charger, and your cruising. What other electric monsters are there out there? I think most of the others are Nitro (The Mad Force OWNS a TXT-1).
Anyway, feel free to respond to this and tell me how wrong I am. :) I've debated this topic many many times, and havent lost yet.
Oh, and I love my TXT-1s by the way, but they are NOT for the faint of heart. Expensive toys they are.

hairball i would have to disagree with you on some parts. You dont have to spend 600 minimum to have fun. I got my TXT for $350 and used my traxxas radio($50) and my rebel ESC ($60) and im using my old hobbico 925 charger ($30) and some 1500 packs ($12) with removed the sway bars and found some rocks and the thing is still fun. So all together (even if i had to buy the all the stuff at once) thats about $500. And i dont think the TXT-1 is week. But i dont think its very durable either. My pede is definatly weaker.
Now im getting it ready for racing which yes is very expensive.

and soon to come some desent batts and charger and full bearings. and it certanly starts to add up. But it is cheaper for me to compete in the clod class than it would be for me to compete in the e-maxx class just because the guys there poor thousands of dollars into the trucks.

I was running an E tranny before the TXTs were available in the states.
HB is right on the head with the TXT. They're cool stock, but a TXT with an E tranny is killer. My main gripe to this day is the lack of bearings with the kit. I'd rather have bearings than extra tranny gears and an extra body with no decals (lights, windows, etc..).

I use foams in my tires.
FAST TRUCKS - USE FOAMS
SLOW TRUCKS - FOAMS OPTIONAL.
I think that no foams gives better traction because the tire is allow to conform to the surface, when the foams make them stiffer.

Ronin hows your BL system working. I got mine installed but it doesnt work with my XR3i radio. It works great with my Python. I havent had the time to open it up yet and see the power it has. I jsut know the brakes can flip the truck on its lid. :D
Yes, I've noticed that, too:cool:
Ronin1973
11-23-2002, 01:32 PM
He kris, how come it doesn't work with your xr3, it works dine with my xr6?
I didn't get to program my controller, need win98, remember.
So it's not running very smooth at crawling speeds, but runs well at bash speeds. Wheelies on command.
Here's the thing, my controller quit on me last week.
Driving fine one day, took it out the next and it was dead.?????
:(
So, I have to return it and get it fixed/replaced.
In the meantime I've got a Super Rooster coming in for my custom clod. So I'll be able to drive it with the stock motors for now.
And I fried my xr6 radio the other day too.
Put the battery in the wrong way round(bad lighting)!
I'm thinking about getting a hitec lynx 3d.
Anyone here have an opinion about it?
You need to time the brakes, it slows down to a stop and if you still have the throttle fully reversed(for brakes) it will wheelie in reverse :p
Just takes some practice.
krisI.925
11-23-2002, 05:08 PM
well i got the radio working it was just a bad connection. I took it outside today and found that it shutters very badly. At like half throttle if it goes 20ft it will shutter for a few seconds then another 20ft and it will do it agian. It makes it impossible to drive. If i slowly roll the throttle from a dead stop the truck will get moving with shuttering but who wants that. But from a dead stand still if i give it full throttle the truck literaly jumps off the ground into the air and does a back flip and lands on its lid. Unbelieveable power  i just sent rum runner hobbies a e-mail. Ill see what they have to say. BTW what was your gear on your truck. Im currently using a 12T pinion because its the smalled one i could get to fit. how about u.

junk4calata
11-23-2002, 05:14 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the XR3 ( JR, Right ), has adjustable end points for forward and reverse. You could adjust your end points for reverse so that it doesn't hit the truck so hard ( to flip over ). Plus you'll be easier on your gears.
I have an Aveox RC7 motor in my e-maxx ( soon to be dual brushless ) and it flips the truck over on full brakes from full speed.
My soon to get 2nd txt will have kyosho motors ( not sur which ones thou ) on 8 cells.
Ronin1973
11-24-2002, 02:50 AM
Kris, most of that stuttering is radio interference.
You really have to place the receiver as far away from the contoller as possible and isolate any metal rubbing.
It wil help a lot.
Programming the controller correctly will also help a lot.
I ran a 13 and 15t pinion on 66 spur, both give tremendous amounts of torque, I think a larger spur would be better though.

first off the emaxx is not even a monster truck it is a 4wd stadium truck with large tires. when was the last time you saw a monster truck with independent suspension. have you seen the emaxx in comparison to the txt-1 its tiny. i can easily smash the emaxx. that is if i can catch it which brings up another point what monster truck goes a hundred miles an hour. monster trucks are built for power and climbing ablility not speed. in these areas the TXT-1 out does the emaxx by a long shot. im talking with both the trucks in stock form. im sure either one can be set up to do better in sertain areas of monster truckdom. i can tie a rope to an emaxx, or any other electric monster truck for that matter and drag it all over the place and the only thing that they can do is go along for the ride. as far as suspension articulation none of the others compare to the TXT-1. im am talking stock form. out of the box.

What are you looking to get from the txt? For crawling, the Super Rooster is Better !!!. For more speed and more parts breakage, the EVX is better ( broken drive shafts, sliders ( if you convert ), EVX itself ). Also, with the EVX, your limited on how far down in turns you can go - 19 turns each max per Novak.

I never have had any problems with the EVX. I've got two of them. It just has horrible low speed resolution. So for crawling, its horrible. But if you want your TXT-1 to keep up with and smoke E-Maxxs, use the EVX.

Kris, do you have any power(torque) with low throttle?
Can you still crawl with it at low speed?
I mentioned before my controller (1870 micro) needed programming(before it died on me).
I had to rev up the motor 1st then I would get the torque, it wasn't smooth at low throttle.

i bought a txt and right away i did away with the mechanical speed control and dropped in a super rooster. With the stock motors i had awsome torque and run time but i could walk faster than the truck. So i bought a pair of Speed gems 2, 17 turn single motors, which gave me the speed i was looking for but had bearly enough torque to climb a curb, and the run time dropped dramaticly low like 3 mins with a 3000mah battery pack. so i took them out and put the stock motors back in. i found that if you wire two 1500 mah batteries in parallel you get more than double the run time i think i timed it at 12min which was great. but i still want more speed not much just a little maybe as fast as a stock clodbuster. 10 to 15mph will do. so i need the mod motors but how do i get more torque and still keep the same speed. please help.

i want more speed but i do not want to give up my low end torque. and crawling speed. also can you shift an emaxx tranny from low to high or first to second on the fly. or do you have to stop and then shift. i heard that if you take off in first you could push the shift switch and the truck would shift from first to second and the very end of first gear.

I think I love my TXT the most of all. Especialy now that I have my BL motor in the truck.
Ronin I am using the 7018 Warrior speed control. Its what most people go with. 18 cells, 70 amps, programable and smooth. Not to mension they are half the price of all other ESCs of its caliber.
Iv have been having some trouble with my TXT lately. :( It runs fine and everything but the steering seems a little weak. Im using 2ws and a CS-80 servo. The problem is the servo horn keeps coming off the servo or one of the ball cups pops off or something of that nature. I fixed the problem with the servo horn coming off so far but is there something i can do to make the steering assembly stay together. It actualy kind of amazes me that its holds up as well as it does actualy. 12lb going 30mph has got to have a lot of strain on all the components

Kris, as for my controller, I beleive it must have had a defect, I didn't do anything strange to it. I emailed BK and depending on their response will ship it back to them for repair/replacement.
I'm getting a super rooster next week so I'll be able to drive my TXT with the stock motors, untill I get my BL setup fixed.
I also need a new 3ch radio.
(and funds to buy it :( )
As for steering, replace the ballends with heavy duty ones, make some stronger steering rods, the stock suck. And I hear that kimbrough servo savers are the way to go.
This should beef up your steering.

Ronin the problem could have also have been with your motor. I have heard some things about the BL motors getting loose connections and stop working.
Im gonna go to the lhs and see what they have to beef up my steering. If they dont have anything then ill get some upgrades. Im also looking into those full sets of skid plates the RC4wd has but im going to be racing and i dont want to make my truck to heavy. Its heavy enough as it is. .
WARNING WARNING WARNING. My TXT was over 22lbs w/ the tranny conversion and all 3 skid plates, and radio equipment ( for 3 way RWS ) W/O batteries. That's why when I will get my next one, I will remove stock pieces from it that I feel won't really be needed for me and my conditions.

I've pretty sure the JR XR3 will do the job just fine.
The Ko Propo EX-11 Presto works great too. I use one for my TXT-1 E-Maxx Tranny shifting. I used to use the 4th channel on it for selectable 4WS, but now I just run it full time 4WS. :)

i have the XR3i and it works fan freaken tastic. There is one feature that is on it that the C button(can also be 3rd channel) can be programed so that when you push it the wheels turn all the way and when released they turn to what ever servo travel you selected. Which really comes in handy with 4ws and a BL motor driven in my backyard.

It's easy to run a "Y" adapter.
I use one on my clod that reverses the rear servo and has an adjustable center.
BUT..on the TXT, all you need to do is physically flip the servo and center it...

At my LHS. If I remember right it's made by Hobbico and is for airplane use.
Works great for taking headache out of getting a 4WS truck to drive a straight line...adjust the front with the radio trim, adjust the rear with the "Y" harness.
Here's what it looks like, but this is a JR Y harness...

if it is set up correctly the trim should adjust both wheels evenly. And both of the servos should both turn at the same speed even if different servos are used.
Does any one run a Rx pack. I am going to order a 2000mah reciever battery and am wondering how long it will last with my CS-80.(2)
ProjectTwin
12-03-2002, 10:18 AM
krisI.925, it does, what I'm saying is to get the truck to track straight with 4WS, this is MUCH easier than fiddling with the linkages and servosavers.
We've all installed servosavers with the servos centered and it (as it always does) seems that we end up just a hair off center (due to splines on the servo shaft) and we actually center the steering with steering trim.
That's fine for the front, or a simple 2WS set-up. The problem is compounded when you go to 4WS and have to do it twice. With both servos installed, you center the front from the radio and it'll move the rear too, which (more than likely) will set it off center.
This simple fix is to adjust the trim for the front, then use the nifty "Y" harness to center the rear.

i installed mod motors in the TXT-1 and the beast within came alive. now no matter how fast i am going in reverse unless i come to a complete stop the truck wheelies when i hit forward. it was ok at first but now the wheelies are followed by a loud pop! does any one have any idea what this might be, i have checked out all the gears and they seem fine. actually they look just like they did when i put them in there, except for the grease. could it be the splines on the drive shafts slippingin the diff housings.
also will 540s fit in the emaxx or do i have to use 550s, my uncle would like to know.
is it ok to run 3300mah stick packs in parallel, or possibly a couple of 3000mah battery packs.
if i install the emaxx tranny in my txt-1 will i loose the torque i had with the txt-1 tranny.
also what is a good brushless set up that offers lots of power and around 10 min of run time. i have heard of two Hacker which i also heard provides awsome performance but little run time and the other is Aveox which i know nothing about
im having fun fixing up my TXT-1 i love this truck it is every thing i hoped it would be and more.

Welcome to the world of TXT-1 peice of sh** gears. You cracked a gear. The teeth are FINE, but they are cracked, like down the center line of the gear. I've blown three sets myself. trust me on this.

Wow, if that about the farthest thing from the truth I've heard in the long time.
You can gear the E-Maxx tranny to almost match the TXT-1 stock gear, hence, you won't notice a difference. OR, you can gear way down using Bolink 8 tooth pinions and get massive amounts of torque. And don't worry about gears, the E-maxx tranny can take a lot of abuse. And you can install optional SuperMaxx steel idler gears and never have any problems (it tooks me almost a year of bashing to break one set of $5 stock idler gears).
Any size motor you want will fit the E-Maxx tranny.
Goto www.txt1.net if you want to get serious with your TXT-1.

The Kimbrough #124 are so good that you can even use the HiTec 645mg servo See here (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUZ90&P=7) . They're only $40 each but with those servo savers you can still turn the wheels on carpet standing still.
Just becareful with the link I gave you above. That servo has the connector for the Futaba receivers. This one (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUZ89&P=7) is for the other receivers.

METAL GEARS ONLY FOLKS! :D Very Good Point. Since us experienced guys haven't used plastic gears for steering in a L O N G time, we forget that new comers would w/o knowing. Plastic gear servos in my opion should not be used for anything other than MSC operations. Not even throttle/brake on nitro because the brake portion of its job requires a lot of stress and encounters shocks ( when jumping and hitting brakes in mid air and then landing with brakes applied )

I used to have this problem all the time. It went from moderate to seveare. I know hairball mention that its a cracked gear but there are many other things it could be. Be shurt to check your diff housing to make sure that its staying bolted shut. Try using a small screw driver and prying it apart to make sure it stays together. Second(this was my problem) check your drive shafts. The telescoping part on the drive shafts wear out and skip very easily. And also they could not be bolted on tight enough at the axle or tranny. I suggest you just go out and buy some traxxas sliders. Try and get the 2.5 shafts and put inserted half on the axles. I had to do this since my stock shafts literaly twisted and tore themselves apart. Im now running a BL 4200 motor on 12 cells and have not had any problems with the drive train.
And I find that the only reason you even need a servo saver is just because a servo saver wont break. I use(d) the stock horns and epoxy them so they dont move. They work great but some times cant always take the abuse.
And can some on tell me a good 1/4 scale servo that has desent speed an torq and isnt to expensive. Also one that doenst need its own power supply.

It depends on how much you want to spend. For $40 you can get the Hitec 645mg (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUZ90&P=7) or for $105 you can get the Airtronics 94358Z (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXTT13&P=7) .
Both are very good servos and highly recommended. I have both so I speak for experience. For everyday use and bashing around, I recommend the 645mg. If you are into serious rock crowling, the 94358z is more for you, They both turn the wheels on capret standing still and I concider the airtronics a little more of an overkill. I've had the Airtronics servo on the back and with the truck facing straight up on its rear skid it would move the nose of the truck from side to side when activated.

Running the motor at 7.2v is fine, IF, and ONLY IF, the motor is geared correctly. If you over gear it, the motor will heat up, and could melt.
Gearing is key here. :)

I am working on an insane project TXT-1 that will eventually run two Aveox 2T Brushless Motors and be powered by 15 saddle packs (yes 90 cells). Is there any place I can go to find a beefed up tranny. I'm afraid the stock tranny will detonate under load. I have the plate already manufactured to hold the cells and plan on using an extended F-350 from Pro Line. I also need to know if the Team Orion Fresh Kicks will work or if I should go with the Proline slicks. If anyone can think of a better road tire let me know. The course I'll be running is banked 60 degrees in the corner and 25 to 30 on the straights and is approximately 1/4 mile so I don't have to worry about the truck flipping. Just worried about traction. If anyone has gear ratios for this thing I would be grateful.
