I am just getting into the RC scene. I used to have them as a kid but i want to start building them myself. I need to know what is a good "starter" car ( electric or nitro)? How much should I spend on my first car/truck? Anyone recommend a good site? And is it easier to go with a combo kit if I was ordering one or should I get everything seperate?

Most people start out with electric cars because they're easier to get going. you don't have to learn how to tune em, they're cheaper, cleaner, etc.
If you're looking into offroad, and you just want a basher, most cars are rtr's now. The kits are often being discontinued for the sport level kits. Otherwise you might look into a team associated RC10T3 or a losi xxx-t for a race level kit.
What you want to spend is up to you, but i wouldn't go for a sport kit (if there's options for one). Get the ones with bearings etc. It's worth the extra few bux.
As far as purchasing, again it's up to you, but I like to get everything seperately since most of the products included in combo deals are on the lower end of quality levels.
That's my 2 cents. welcome to the hobby :p

The type of car/truck depends on how and where you intend to use it.
My first r/c was an E Maxx. I can bash in my backyard, construction lots and get big air jumps and wheelies! The Maxx has tons of hop-up options and comes complete with a radio. All you need are battery packs (6 is ideal) and a charger.
I also have a few on-road cars. But unless you intend to race or have a bunch of bashing buddies, solo runs ripping up parking lots gets boring. If you do decide on on-road and intend just to run causally, consider the HPI Rally. The higher ground clearance is a solution to uneven and rocky surfaces, plus it has off-road capabilities.
