I want to run in the 1/10 on road touring car class. I have a couple TC-3's right now and am wondering what would be the best servo's to put in them. I am used to high cost servos as I fly helicopters so I am not trying to cut corners in this area. I am wondering about the JR 8450 digital servo for the steering and maybe one of the Hitec digitals for the throttle/brake system. Good choice or bad? Help me please.....

Hi,

Ohhhw, costs are now problem.....BLIN BLING.....gow with the hi-est torque and fastest set-time (not the ríght name) you can afford. It makes sense....cos your car will react way faster.

Thanks. How about transit speed for both?

digi-servo will go to .08 sec....that's FAST...0.1- 0.15 will do fine I think.

It said for 1/10th on-road cars use a transit speed of .15 or higher. Somewhere I heard that you needed a transit speed for the steering servo of .08 to .12 which is of course a bit faster than they are recommending. Is that because of the cost do you think or is that fast of a servo hard to drive because it is so quick?
Thanks again for your help.....

Faster servos make it twitchy which can make it difficult to drive. Personally I like everything as twitchy as possible. In my experience, it's best to use plastic gear, non hitec, non-digital servos for throttle. Metal gears are best used on steering. I'd go for something like an airtronics 94737z for throttle and the servo you mentioned oughta be rather nice for steering duties. I just wouldn't use a hitec on throttle. they tend to blow up when you stall em out such as when pulling brakes.

why no metal gears on throttle?

Yes, why no metal gear ?

Yes, the faster the transit the faster a car will react on contole, And so on little mistakes...You need to practise if you have a REALY fast servo. I think you'll get used to it quick.

Well if you get a quick servo and have a good radio, you can slow it down and gradually move the speed up as your abilities increase and you can use the speed to your benefit.

The main reason metal gear servos aren't so great in throttle is because most metal gear servos have bigger motors in them, so when you stall them by hitting the brakes, it really works the motor hard. This drains a lot of current and can in turn blow up the motor or even the amp that drives the motor.
Another reason is that plastic gear servos tend to hold their mesh tighter over a longer period of time. Thus you dont have as much slop and the gears actually last longer.

If it were me with no spending limit for a touring car i'd get an Airtronics 94737z for throttle and airtronics 94357 for steering.
