View Full Version : Best Street/Race #4 (IMPORTS!!)
mab_man20

Welcome everyone to the forth Street/Race Competition!!
The Street/Race paint competition will be open for entrees for two weeks and will close at Midnight May 28th.
Each month we will hold a Best Paint and Street/Race competition. If you can’t get your bodies done this month, don’t worry there will be plenty more to come!!
The winning bodies may appear in Radio Control Car Action or R/C Nitro!!
Restrictions: All entrees to this competition must be an “import.” By import I mean any body who’s full size counter part is made by a manufacturer outside of the US. The paint scheme can be a real street car, a real race car, a made up street scheme, or a made up race scheme. Remember that points will be awarded for the design based on how it would look on a real street or track, and the more detail the better (see scoring below)! All Asian and European cars are game.
RULES for Street/Race competition:
1) Any body may be submitted to the competition (Truck, buggy, touring car, etc).
2) Any body submitted may NOT appear in another competition.
3) Photo editing the pictures (other than cropping and adjusting brightness/contrast) is highly looked down upon and may result in disqualification.
4) Anyone may enter a body (professional painters are welcome!)
5) Please refrain from insulting bodies in anyway.
6) Must fall within this month's restrictions (May restrictions: Imports)
7) Only 2 entrees per person.
8) Bodies should be painted within the last 4 months.
9) Bodies must be of a "street" look or be painted in a race car style.
Each submission must include the following:
Body manufacturer and size.
Paint used.
Masks used (hand or precut)
Movie the car appeared in.
And of course, a body.
This month philkelly85 will be judging the Street/Race paint competition.
Each body will be judged by the following criteria (1-bad, 10-excellent):
Detail (score 1-10) (decals, grills, mirrors, roll cages, if its on a real car you score points here)
Design (score 1-10)
Execution (score 1-10)
The photo and background will not be judged. All that is needed is a clean photo that clearly shows the body.
Each month we will place some restriction on all entrees.
June restrictions:
Best Paint: No Restrictions!
Best street/race: No restrictions!
GOOD LUCK

Hey rx78, I think that you could enter it if it applies to the restrictions, and it looks drastically different than the one we've seen around here... (it has been a little overused, but we've had this discution before)
Body manufacturer and size: HPI Nissan Skyline GT-R 190mm
Paint used: Pactra Outlaw Black (can)
Masks used (hand or precut):included windaw masks
Movie the car appeared in: hmm... I don't know
And of course, a body: Here it is.
Inspiration: Spoolin's 32. I decided to make a 34 and be cool, but his 34 came out first. Oh well. My first body, I only entered it to eel proud of being in it :D

if ur talking about what i'm thinking. if this competition is trying to be of a car show kind of thing, will a slammed truck be able to enter? its a dodge ram. if not, i'll just have to choose something else

djm914-6: Great porsche! (I always manage to miss just one little thing :p, thanks ill get it changed)
Knappster: Amazing attantion to detail!
wing: read above ^^^^^^
Real Lemons: Please dont insult him.
rx78gp03s: Send me a picture of the car to mab_man20@hotmail.com and list the changes you have made. I'll make a decision from that. Any car or truck that would look at home either on the track or on the street (or dirt) is ok. A good example is the Tamiya stadium truck painted up like the full size baja racer in the Best Paint #4 comp.
eliseracer: I see x's so i cant comment, maybe its just me though.

Every car ive seen in this competition so far, i would be a very proud owner of! This is going to be a great competition to judge!
Eliseracer: i cant see your two pictures, just Red X's so you can either try and post them again or email them to me.
djm914-6: very nice porsche! Im also a big porsche fan, the CTR2 with the large front spoiler is my favourite!
Knappster: Great Skyline! You can never go wrong with an R32 or R34, that is a great concourse car. Hes one lucky little corny guy! lol
Wing: another great skyline, really well finished, clean and crisp. Like the colour scheme!
rx78gp03s: Post up your RSX what have you got to lose? Id like to see how its coming along.
matkg: I havent seen many Altimas on this site before, thats a great example of how it chould be done. White is a very unforgiving colour, its either perfect or disasterous, yours is a very nice outcome!
Only 11 more days to go!!! :p lol hope to see as many entries as possible!
Cheers

:D :D Thanks! As for the rims, I had a choice, those ones or 5 spokes, maybe I'll try those later.
Yeah but when they plastered it with APC stickers? the thing with all those movie cars is, they aren't real, just bodykits. Stock under the hood. Maybe some of them have the goods under the hood. In the first fnf, did you know the charger that they rolled was really a plexiglass Civic? The real one is owned by a guy in my city, 1000+ HP.

Ok, This maybe a stupid question...but what qualifies as an import? If you are in America mustangs, Cameros, and such are not really Imports, however I suppose if you were living in say Japan, then they would be. MAB can we get a little clarification here?
Please note: I'm not trying to get anyone disqualified or anything I'm just curious.
65mph2sc,
Those look great, nice and clean. Oh, and I like the lighting work. I really makes these cars look MEAN (in a good way). Is that stuff R/C neon products or something else? Looks good.

Restrictions: All entrees to this competition must be an “import.” By import I mean any body who’s full size counter part is made by a manufacturer outside of the US.

65mph: The Pontiac Firebird and the Ford Mustang are not allowed in this competition as Pontiac and Ford are both American companies. I take it therefore that the Toyota Infinity G35 is your only entry? If so could you post some pics (other than of the sides) to make it easier to judge please :)
All 3 bodies look really good though, the 2 black cars should do well in next months competition with no restrictions! I like the neon glows underneath! How many colours can you get mini neon bulbs in?
Hope to see more entries, well done to all that have entered so far!

philkelly85 > Could you clarify something for me? In the rules it says that buggies are allowed.... How does that fit in to the "import" rule restriction since buggy bodies don't really replicate a real car body? Forgive me if this is a stupid question... I have a feeling I might be misreading the rules.
Kaffieen_Kraze
05-18-2003, 01:29 PM
Goose98,
I believe the Buggies are allowed rule is part of the initial rules Mab used for the 1st comp. He then adds new restrictions to each new comp, "imports only" or "3 colors only" for example. So I believe the restrictions take precidence over the standard rules when applicable. Although this is all just speculatiion on my part, you should really wait for for MAB's answer:D

eliseracer: I see it now!! And it was worth the wait, great job.
matkg: Awesome altima! Extremely clean.
65mph2sc: As phil said, the mustang and firebird are not imports so they cannot be entered. The Infinity is killer! Also, photoshopping a picture is grounds for disqualification. I dont think anything on the infinity is edited, so please post only the UNEDITED pics. Thanks.
Kaffieen_Kraze: In my original post i specify an import as "any body who’s full size counter part is made by a manufacturer outside of the US.
Goose98: Yes buggies are allowed, but as you said they dont really fit into the import theme. I leave that rule there for every competition because i dont want to rule anything out. If someone can find something that is a buggy and is an import then it is legal, if no one can, then there is no loss. Its just a win win.

Man! What an overwhelming response! Thanks for the comments, guys! :)
After the comp, I'll make a thread for this car and tell you anything you want to know about it. I just don't want to flood the boards with too many pix just yet.
I'll get some good hi-res outside shots that show off the wheels a little better... you can't even see the brakes in the previous pics. :( If any of you want wallpaper sized pics, go ahead and e-mail me and I'll try to whip something up for you.
I'll be going on vaca in a couple days though so it may be a week or so before you'll get 'em.

burning perform: Great skyline, but please post the unedited pics. You will not lose points for having body posts and a tank puller. thanks.
JGTCracer21: Im looking forward to it!!
Kden46: Thanks for doing a little investigating for me, but in the original post i classify an import as a car produced by a manufacturer out side of the USA (i.e. any car company whos headquarters are OUTSIDE of the USA.)

THAT is one sweet lancer!!! I'm learning just looking at it! WOW! Can't wait for RallySteve's lessons on how to do these things! I really want to try modding a body for display.
Mab, thanks for the comments. Used your tip on making those window trims cleaner!

I remember that one from a few months ago. You did a crossover with a couple cars and made us guess the car. Are those G35 tails I see there?
mab_man20
05-23-2003, 08:36 AM
matkg: :D
Aluma: The VW is great! However, the stratus isnt eligable because its a dodge.
Aluma
05-23-2003, 11:16 AM
yeah i know the dodge is ineligible... :P but its the only way to race and have evo7 looks :D besides, the only nice lancer body is Tamiyas and I wouldn't want to race with it cuz its very detailed.
eliseracer...nope not G35 rear lights. Just didnt put on the bottom twin light strips that the dodge comes with.

ebay!... but they only fit the FF01 chassis because the bodies come pre holed. Expect to pay 60+ for a new one...very rare.

Would my toyota gt-1 be considered and import car or no?
Well I just thought I ask..... lol?
FSU427P
05-25-2003, 01:20 AM
Well those cars were built in Japan and although they were designed for racing period, there was a homoligation version that was built for the street. This was done to comply with FIA rules for road/endurance racing. They built about 200 "street" GT-One cars. So to answer your question, yes , the GT-One should be considered an import.
mab_man20
05-25-2003, 01:24 AM
FSU427P: THanks for the onfo, i didnt know they made a "street" version.
My answer sounds stupid now....:D  ^^^^
Toyota made it, therefore its an import.

Here we are one month on from the last Street Race competition, wow doesnt time fly! There were so many great entries to this competition here are the results:
65mph2sc
Very nice new body from Protoform, with wing mirrors which is nice! Only one picture from the side, which makes it a little harder to judge than the rest, plus it’s in the dark. The neon glow from under the car, which can be changed from orange to blue, is really effective! The wheel arches seem a little small for the wheels. Maybe cutting the wheel arches to fit the wheel not the outline on the body would have been better. Overall a nicely finished body.

Raytrix
Wow! You must be American because everything is excessively BIG!! Simple design and colour but what about those massive rims and an exhaust pipe that could fit a small child!! Lol Great car, stream lined and low. The colour is nice and the wing it great and also BIG lol
Detail:6 Design:5 Execution:6 = 17
eliseracer
Very nice finish and great black rims. Simple design but a high quality finish. One point to add is that the 200mm skyline looks as if its on a 190mm chassis which makes the wheel arches too far out. Other than that nice car!
Detail:6 Design:6 Execution:6 = 18
Dark2G
Great Skyline in a very nice colour! The window masks look cool, haven’t seen many people do that before; it gives a modified car look to it! I read your post and saw that you don’t drive with this body, it looks like the chassis is a 200mm and the body is 190mm but the rims still look nice!
Detail:6 Design:6 Execution:6 = 18
joke_one
Shame there’s only one picture to judge from but still this body looks nice. Black and red go well together and black rims look very good too. The lines between the colours and on the windows look clean and precise good job!
Detail:6 Design:6 Execution:6 = 18
burning perform
Nice looking skyline! Could this be the most popular touring rc bodyshell of all time? I think it rivals the status! Nevertheless, all the skylines entered in this competition are impressive including this one! The red flame is also a nice effect, with very nice matt silver rims. Well done!
Detail:6 Design:7 Execution:6 = 19
R-Model
Never seen this bodyshell before, very nice! The lines between colours are perfect no leaks at all! Very interesting design that’s very effective.
Detail:6 Design:7 Execution:6 = 19
djm914-6
Simple colour but a really great blue streak with clever fades! Very professional finish indeed! Really like the wing, overall a very finish on a very nice car!
Detail:6 Design:6 Execution:7 = 19
Casey
Great looking truck! Very clean the red orange and yellow look like decals! The wheels look great, overall a great car and attention to the likeness of Ivan Stewart's race truck from the '90s is very accurate!
Detail:6 Design:7 Execution:7 = 20
matkg
Very nice indeed! As I said before, white is a very unforgiving colour, the outcome is either perfect or terrible as every mistake is very obvious. This outcome is perfect, I like the colour scheme and the subtle logos, which seem to be backwards on one side? Very nice car that recently appeared in Matrix 2 but with quite a few bullet holes in it! Those rims are the nicest I’ve ever seen!! They really add to the finished body.
Detail:6 Design:7 Execution:7 = 20
Goose98
There’s a very professional look to this car, the paintwork and decals are perfect! Mixing the red and orange give a great colour that stands out! Nice design that would look great on a racetrack!
Detail:7 Design:7 Execution:7 = 21
oneskincamarnyj
The pics are a little small but I can still see the amazing paintwork!! Flames are well done, and the blue effects are amazing, I haven’t seen that effect before, it looks like marble! The red letters and lines are also great to give a 3d effect!
Detail:7 Design:7 Execution:7 = 21
wing
Great body!! Very professional finish with shine and glamour! Both the tinting of the windows and the application of the decals is excellent! The body is not overflowing with decals, which is good. The rims are amazing I want some!! Also you have to tell me how you put decals on the wheels!
Detail:7 Design:7 Execution:8 = 22
Knappster
Great concourse car! Very realistic indeed, you can’t go wrong with a skyline and polished black gives the nicest finish! Silver rims with red wheel nuts compliment the great black body with subtle red logos and effective red grills! The chrome roll cage inside is also very effective with the exhaust also! One question though; how is it attached to the chassis, as there are no holes for the pins?
The little guy gives great comic value! Lol
CAR - Detail:8 Design:7 Execution:9 = 24
GUY - Detail:5 Design:5 Execution: Definitely! lol
RallySteve
Wow! Unbelievable! This is, without doubt the greatest Remote Controlled car body I’ve ever seen! The colours used are great and the detail is incredible! The bodywork is amazing in itself, but then there’s the grills, full set of lights, great black rims, and the interior! Seats with seatbelts, dashboard and even a NOS bottle and so many more I cant list them! The time and effort put into this body is amazing and therefore there’s no option but to crowd Steve as the winner of the forth Street/Race Competition with 30 out of 30 points! Congratulations Steve!
Detail:10 Design:10 Execution:10 = 30
There we are, our first ever winner with full marks and deservedly so! Its been great fun judging the competition, thanks to everyone who entered! Bring on the next competitions! :D

Well deserved RallySteve!!!
Thanks Phil for the comments! BTW, the decals on the right side were reversed to mirror the left side. It's a common thing for Japanese tuner cars. Just got lazy making a reversed nismo decal.
Anyway, Phil, can you check on my concourse question thread. Need some advice on polymorph. Thanks!
Congrats everyone!

Congrats RS, now start a new thread like you said you would and explain how you did all of it, I am really interested in finding out where you go it all (wipers, interior, Nitrous bottle, etc.) and how you brought it all together on an RC body.

Great job there RS, I absolutely love that body.
As for my entry, it is a 190mm shell on a 190mm chassis, I have no idea why it looks so much bigger, could be the 24mm wheels.
Good job RS!

Its good to see al that time spent in the "lab" working on RC stuff instead of what you SHOULD be designing pays off!
I can't wait to see it up close, you coming to the track anytime soon?
Got an email about helping out with an up-coming Rally, Full Sized, interested? Let me know. I'll be in touch, again nice job w/ the Evo!
