Hello. My wife forced me to hang these "icicle" style Christmas lights from the peak and roofline. After much grumbling and near death episodes on the ladder, the task was met.Much to my surprise and delight, there is now enough light for me to fly my V-Tail MINIPLEASER at Night in the front yard! Now it's an endurance contest between my fingers freezing and running down the Tadrian batteries! http://www.rcmicroflight.com/ubb/biggrin.gif My beloved is now of the opinion that I should be TAKING Lithium instead of flying airplanes with it! Best Regards

After you take your lithium pill tonight, use that extra creativity to design yourself a heated transmitter! Then you'd never have come in!

Bleriot,
I thought the CEO of fry and fly would know this one- on a GWS motor, is it possible to swich a burnt core of, ohhh.. lets say a DX-A with a DX-D??? Would you have to re-wind the DX-D???

Hello Buddy6! My job is to fry them but I've found it difficult and dangerous to pry the metal tabs away from the endbell. What fries is the brush/commutator area and NOT the windings, so replacing the core is not effective.Balsa Products will have repacement GWS ABCD motors on Jan 15 with carbon brushes, which could change for the better this motor's ability to run for lengthier periods

You don't need to replace the core...the actual electric motor is the same on all GWS IPS power systems. The only thing that is different is the gear ratios. Just stick the whole can from the A in the D moter mount/ gear box and wallah, it's a GWS DX-D!
Good luck.

I adapted some carbon brushes to my original GWS motor and have been running it on 8 700mah NiMH cells in various aircraft.
I even used 9 150mah nicads in one configuration but the batteries dumped after about 2 min.
No problems and it makes great power at this voltage level.
Probably the best thing to do with the new carbon brush motors when they arrive is to have the arms balanced by one of the slot car motor builders. This would give you an excellent motor with lots of power that would run a long time. Also shimming and honing the magnets will increase power and duration.
I have all the equipment left over from my slot car days so I rewind and time and balance my motors. I even adapted carbon brushes to a DC 5.2-4 coreless motor after I tired of paying for and replacing the thin wire brushes on the stock motor.
