Welcome everyone to the Fifth Best Paint Competition!!
The best paint competition will be open for entrees for two weeks and will close at 12:00 AM June 15th at midnight.
Restrictions: NONE. Anything is legal.
In the following two weeks (June 16 to June 30) we will hold the fifth Street/Race Competition. Each month we will hold a Best Paint and Street/Race competition. If you can’t get your bodies done this month, don’t worry there will be plenty more to come!!
The winning bodies may appear in Radio Control Car Action or R/C Nitro!!
RULES for Best Paint:
1) Any body may be submitted to the competition (Truck, buggy, touring car, etc).
2) Any body submitted may NOT appear in another competition.
3) Photo editing the pictures (other than cropping and adjusting brightness/contrast) is highly looked down upon and may result in disqualification.
4) Anyone may enter a body (professional painters are welcome!)
5) Please refrain from insulting bodies in anyway.
6) Must fall within this month's restrictions (June restrictions: None)
7) Only 2 entrees per person
8) Bodies should be painted within the last 4 months.
Each submission must include the following:
Body manufacturer and size.
Paint used
Masks used (hand or precut)
Inspiration (could be another paint job).
And of course, a body.
This month T3GT will be judging the Best paint competition.
Each body will be judged by the following criteria (1-bad, 10-excellent):
Difficulty (score 1-10)
Over all design (score 1-10)
Execution (score 1-10)
The photo and background will not be judged. All that is needed is a clean photo that clearly shows the body.
Each month we will place some restriction on all entrees.
July restrictions:
Best Paint- “Heavy Metal” (whatever comes to mind when you here that phrase).
Street/Race- Yet to be determined. Keep an eye out for a separate thread.
GOOD LUCK

this is my HPI 2002 dodge ram 200mm body that I just did for my savage.I kept with the savage theme of purple threw the truck by using parma flame paint masks.I did the flames with a marblized look using a sea sponge and faskolor fluresent purple and pactra pearl purple.the rest of the truck received a pactra pearl silver, and the black bed.
:) Thanks Frank
Oh ya by the way I thought it was cool that HPI posted my truck as picture of the week in there gallery..love that HPI

Here's one I did:
Body: Ofna Hyper 7 body
Paint: Custom blended main color, Parma charcoal, Alclad II Chrome (pinstriping) Parma flourescent orange, Parma flourescent yellow.
Masks: Completely custom hand cut masks.
Inspiration: Complete randomness. I did this one the night before a race.. It turned out well, I think.

The pic is really bad, and the body looks 4x better in real life....
Frank,
I have been searching for those flames on the side of your truck body. Is that a mask.
Can you e-mail me a close up picture of the flames on the side of your truckPlease? Corkran.Nicholson2@verizon.net

Nice one Acid!!
Believe it or not I did a body for a friend about 2 years ago that had the same "circuit board" theme. Although the conducts were actually chopped-up Intel ads from computer mags. Yours is much more detailed!! Very original!
All the bodies look great so far. Makes me want to paint something!! But with about 4 weeks till my wedding no time:(.....I have the bodies and ideas just no time.
Thanks for the inspiration.....

Was that Civic your body? I personnaly liked how much tighter the circuitry was on the previous one, but it looked a lot better this time around because of the peeling off of the JGTC theme.
This one yours?

eliseracer, yup! that's my civic... didn't have an airbrush then so, i "cracked" the transition. Actually, I borrowed our company's airbrush and compressor to work on the silvia. With regards to the tighter circuitry on the civic, it was easy 'cause I simply drew them in... imagine masking it ;) in short I got lazy - lol.

The Green was mixed using Tamiya Park Green (PC21) and Tamiya Green (PC9), roughly 60:40 respectively. I'm not 100% sure about the ratio as I was just trying to match the Alitalia decals and wasn't paying much attention to the mix.

Pffffffffffffffffft, you could spin like that with a nitro any day of the week....

A brushless motor is basically an inside-out electric motor, the coils wrap around a smaller armature, therefore they don't need brushes.
Besides not having to change brushes ever again, they pump out massive torque, so you can gear for a really fast car and not burn up anything.
They also live on voltage, so 14v pretty peppy. Most run 8-9-10 cells, or 9.6-10.8-12 volts.
And pfftt... nitro, obviously your biased, so silence, the only thing I don't like about nitro is the fact you have to set the clutch so that the motor basically does nothing in the low-rpm range to keep it from stalling, where as with an electric motor you can go as fast or as slow as you want, with very fine control.
To prove that last statement, somewhat, I've only seem electric drifting cars so far, sure, there might be nitro, but I haven't seen them yet.
Sorry to get off topic guys, back to the paintjobs, I was just curious about his BL setup.

sorry to get this forum off topic...
I'll add, there were no masks (except included windows) and insperation is WRC:D
ya, that's a brushless on 14.4V
it's got a spool (locked diff) in the rear, and I've used MIP Shiny CVDs, but they still snapped:mad:
not sure weather to retire this car, sell, or try to get some TI cvd's machined....
there's tons of info in the brushless forum (Electric forum)...
it's a Lehner 5300 motor with a 7018 controller, www.rumrunnerhobbies.com served me well:p
the limit is 10 cells on this motor, and even Donnie of RRH only recomends 8 max...
lol
the whole setup costs about $240
and I got another identical setup that I'm going to be running Dual 5300's in a Hyper7Pro 1/8 buggy
each motor will have 8-10 cells
can't wait:cool:
oh yeah, check www.brushless.owns.it for more brushless info:rolleyes:
DualBL
06-08-2003, 09:05 PM
also, polk, in those action pics, I was only running 6 cells, and it's hard to drive that fast of a car, in a 50x50 patch of gravel, AND take a picture of it ;-)
trust me, it'd take a serious nitro to beat my tc3.
sad thing is, it's got too much torque for it's own good:mad:

I noticed that after they were mounted. The lettering is on the wrong side, which is what I was paying attention to when I mounted the tires. Not to mention that the darn Ofna wheels' spokes are the same on all 4. So they go one direction on the left and a different direction on the right.

Body: Protoform Vox - 190mm
Paint: Fascolor Faspearl Charcoal and Faschange Purple. Createx Opaque Lilac, Fluorscent Rasberry, Fluorscent Hot Pink, and Fluorscent Rasberry.
Mask: Custom cut vinyl.
Inspiration: The last few bodies I've painted I've been doing the marble thing using plastic wrap. I thought it would look good as soot, so I gave it a try on a tight flame scheme.

These all look really cool, well done. A few comments about the ones that stick out in my mind:
FrankT: Nice color scheme, and the marble flames a very original, don't think I've ever seen something like that.
andy51289: Nice design, and the color contrast is what makes it look so good. Two thumbs up.
acidburn: OMG that had to take forever. Flawless rip job.
geo8498: Nice colors, cool name (alien goo). A little too busy for my tastes, but still very nice.

Hey thanks, I'm having a lot of fun running that body.
I saw a lot of awesome paint schemes. I didn't think that I would even place.
I wasn't sure what information you needed, but thanks.
I think that acidburn's paint job was so awesome, that it intimidated more people not to post on this competition.
I'm curious on what he can come up with next.
