G.day from Australia

I currently use a HITEC CG-325 Multicharge-a-matic peak detection charger for the NiCad batteries I use in my Glow powered planes.

I was wondering if I could use the same charger to charge the NiMh batteries used to power the park flyers.

I was hoping that if I charged the batteries at the lowest charge setting, that this would prevent damage to battery packs.

If I can this would considerably reduce the cost of entering this side of the hobby

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

It has been my experence that NiMHs are much more forgiving than Nicads.

An example would be how I charge my 270mah NiMHs. I use an Astro Flite DC 112D charger at ONE amp. Sometimes more if I am in a hurry. Been using these and other size Nimhs for over a year and they still spec out to the same capacity as when new.

I just started using some of the AAA sized 700mah NiMHs from Ray-O-Vac. Excellent batteres. Small but with big capacity. I charge them at 1.5 to 2 amps using either the Astro or my FC700 Super Nova FMA charger.

Charge them 'till they heat up a bit.

Also I have found that NiMHs work better after a few cycles of use.

BTW: If you think my charging rate is excessive, check one of the past issues of RC Micro Flight. It had a short article on charging both nicads and NiMHs at these rates.
