Hey folks, I looked everywhere for this on the board but with no luck.. was wondering where everyone was routing their ESC to receiver wires on the B3. Mine is hovering over the battery tray (I have my ESC in the tub for low COG) it has a tendency to get in the way..
Surely that trough under the battery is not the way to go is it? or is everyone just mounting their ESC to the shock tower?
thx!

The easiest was is in fact to use that "trough". If your skeptical just lay a piece of electric tape over it keep it flush to the chassis. If you still don't want to do that or plan on taking it out alot. You can thread it behind and above the battery through the shock tower to the other side. Its pretty easy to do and doesn't get in the way of anything.

The only bad part of having it in the little trough, or groove in the chassis, is that I found it increases glitching and reduces radio range by a lot. Deppending if you are racing or just bashing, its up to you, that was just my experience.
MachWon
04-29-2003, 04:48 PM
Yeah, that's what I was afraid of.. glitching. Escpecially since I'm using an older AM Magnum Junior.
Don't know why you'd experience loss of range tho.. unless, for some odd reason, it is reducing the V to the receiver.
I think I'll try the trough and see what happens at the track, don't see pulling it out of the car too often so that's not a prob.
Thanks guys!

Have you got the standard or factory team version? if it's got a graphite chassis then there's a chance of interference (I run graphite an no problems) when routing the wires through the "trough" but if it's standard composite it'll be fine.
It's not reducing the voltage, just that the signal is weaker further away so the problem of glitches increases/becomes more noticable.

04-29-2003, 07:37 PM
I have the graphite versions of T3 and B3, I haven't really driven the B3 much since it is out of commission, but with the T3 I did notice a reduced range. I doubt it will have an effect on most race tracks since you are closer to your truck than speed runs and bashing. Don't worry aobut running it otherways than under the battery trough unless you start to have problems. :)
Louis, you give in to getting a B4 yet?

I for one gave in last week. I test drove a friends B4 and had to have it. I've only run a few packs through it at the track. My initial impression was how well I could hold cornering speed and how it soaked up rough terrain like a sponge! The stock setup seems to be a bit soft especially in the rear. The amount of steering is incredible and the rear hugs the ground for maximum traction. The improvement is more than noticeable over the B3. Don't however think that the B3 is done though because in the right hands can be just as dangerous. I'll race both until parts become more available for the B4 and I start to dial it in more at which point I'll probably try to get someone else into buggy class by setting them up with my B3. It's still way to early to tell if the b4 will live up to its hype and durability reputation. Time will tell.

I for one plan on sticking with the T3 and B3 for a year or two. I'll see how my financial position is in a year or two, then check back. :) I also can improve on my driving skills before moving up.
MachWon
04-30-2003, 01:03 AM
It's an FT so I do indeed have to worry about the "graphite glitch" prob. Still, will test and see.
I too will be sticking with my B3 for now.. at least until the FT version for it comes out .. Or decide to get serious about mod.. Or someone offers me $500 for it and all accessories... (lol) Whichever comes first I suppose :p

Not yet:cool: I've got a list of things I'm saving up for. The B4 comes about 3rd after a WS7 II for my 1/8 buggy and a nitro truck (trying to get a 2nd hand GT)
I'm trying to avoid all B4s and the B4 thread so i don't get jealous;) I think my chances for the coming championship are good with the B3, the other guys would have no chance if i race a B4.
MachWon, give it try. There shouldn't be any glitching.

The set up is pretty much stock Silver springs in back and green in front
Tires: Stock
Everything ells: Stock
Radio: Airtronics MX-3
ESC: LRP Quantum W/Revers
Motor: KYOSHO LEMANS 240 airplane motor.
I know I know laugh it up LOL:) Actualy I took the motor out of an old KYOSHO Valincia They plane saw no airtime so the motor was new and I used it in my 4WD do to the tremedus tourq. The motor has BB's I slaped on some new brushes and I can blow any "Stock car or mild mod car" out of the water. The only problem I found is it seems to take a few revolutions before the motor realy puts the power out meaning you hit the cas and the car nudges forward then all hell breaks loos as the tires tig in and toss dirt in your face LOL:) Anyway hope everyone likes the car. I am planing to upgrade to BB's in the car soon but at $90 for the set its out of my budget so I will get BB's for all 4 wheels first then start the tranny. Hey anyone in N Cali wana race? My club is now meeting on Saterdays and Tuesdays let me know and we will hook up. For more infor on the club visit the website.

What about window masks?
It's best to upgrade the tranny bearings first because the gears rotate at higher RPM in the tranny than in the hub carriers adn it's easier to clean hub bearings. A full set of bearings shouldn't be that expensive.

05-05-2003, 11:37 AM
I tried 3 different types of tape. Flexible stuff on the top (too rough), normal masking tape on the front (OK) and thin plastic type tape on the sides (not enough stick)
I was going to try your electrical tape method but I didn't have enough.
The roof is the only really bad bit on the body, but when I find some liquid mask over here it should sort it out:)

I just got a B3 and want to get some hop ups for it.... What are some suggestions, and what are some companies.... I already got the graphite front shock tower, and the proline body.... I am looking into a better motor and ESC, I have a Pilot something and a Novak Explorer 2.... Any help would be greatly appreciated especially if you can post links
Thanks alot

05-12-2003, 11:55 PM
Well, since you didn't say which flavor B3 I'll assume you have a Sport model.
If that's the case then bearings and titanium turnbuckles should be first on your list.
Go to www.towerhobbies.com and type B3 in their search box. That should get you started. You may have to dig for bearings though. www.stormerhobbies.com is another good one and allows you to search by part numbers right out of your owners manual.
Second on your list? Tires.. can't say enough about matching the right tires to the right track.
As to a motor and ESC? It depends on what you want to do with it really (race? bash? combo?)... Either way, several posts around the board have already covered that subject nicely. Just remember.. In off-road racing, smooth consistent driving wins more races than speed ever could.

Snakebyte,
Like Machwon said we need to know more info to steer you in the right direction (no pun)! If your racing the list of available hop-ups is long, although more than half of it is just eye candy.
Mach said it best with your top three hopups. Bearings, Ti turnbuckles, and tires.
Without more info start there. Bashing or racing? New to hobby? Budget?

05-13-2003, 04:49 PM
I have the team B3, not the sport.... I am mainly going for bashing but might want some racing action too.... I am mainly looking for graphite and carbon fibre stuff, aluminum is nice too....
I have an 11T Pilot motor and a Exploror 2 ESC 15T ouch, soon to be a Super Rooster, unless you guys suggest something else
I have a pair of slicks and stock tires... I have racing gearing but what about gearing for high torq.. or for fun and doing wheelies
vsnakebytev

LouisB
05-16-2003, 07:18 PM
I would suggest spending more money on a quality motor (especially if you will race in the future) and less on alum/graphite upgrades as they will make a very small difference (if any benefit at all) on the track.
If you want longer run times and high torque for bashing then gear down 1 to 2 teeth from the recommended gearing in the manual.

I agree with Louis, get better running gear before better looks.

The chassis is a different shape on the B4 and the body probably won't fit very well.

05-20-2003, 01:23 AM
Does anyone remember the shock bladders or diaphragms that used to fit inside the cap of the old original gold shocks?
I'd like to see how well they'd work in a set of the hard, teflon coated team factory shocks on my B3.
Also, are there any threaded body shocks for us? I haven't been able to find any at Tower or Stormer. Heck.. I'd be happy with clamps for crips sake. I just hate those clips :p
pudder
05-22-2003, 09:10 AM
I remember those little things, I never really noticed a difference with them in or out of some of my vehicles, though I have never tried them on my Associated's... It would be a good experiment! :)
B4 bodies won't fit.
LouisB
05-22-2003, 09:56 AM
AE are coming out with threaded shocks for the B4, but I think the rear shocks are slightly shorter than the B3's  not sure about the length.
I find the AE shocks work very well without diaphragms if you build them right.
If you want clamps then I found something that could help. Traxxas used to make (I think still does) teflon coated shocks, not the big bores, that have the same outside diameter as the AE shocks. They come with plastic clamps that fit perfectly on the B3. But, because clamps are quite big I only used them on the front because I couldn't get the ride height low enough on the rear. I prefer clips because you know that both sides are exactly the same.
MachWon
05-22-2003, 05:49 PM
Actually they're already out. A track friend of mine had a threaded set on his new B4. Didn't ask where he got them thought. Also, I think you're right, shorter (rear and front?)
Thanks for the tip on the clamps. I'm still hoping to find a source for the old associated white ones since they're not that wide or some even lighter ones, surely someone has tried some old Losi's ;)
Oh, and so you guys know, I, on a whim, ordered some bladders from Tower just as an experiment. They are Duratrax DTXC9066 and what do you know.. it looks like they fit!
Sure gives a nice feel to an already smooth shock :) can't wait to try them out on the track. Will let you know how that works out.
LouisB
05-22-2003, 05:58 PM
Let us know how they work.
I've still got the bladdars from my old TRX shock so if they work I'll try it out.
I've got some new bits for my B3:) New ball cups (RPM, and yes pudder they're blue) I had one pop off last race after a heavy landing and a nice new 12x5 armature for my Core. Ideal for the slippery track.

Congrats Louis! GO BLUE! I also saw your first aribrush on the paint board, great job! I am just about ready to get started on my first aribrush! My T3 crowd pleazer is masked and waiting!
Good luck in the coming season Pudder! Hey Pudder I got a great setup and mods off http://www.rc10b4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=114&highlight=Travis
It really stabilzed my T3 and its handling like never before!
Wanted to drop a race story on you guys! Since I got the B4 I've been racing it stock and running my B3 in mod buggy. Well I broke a shock tower after getting hacked in the air on my B4 before (no pun) the main. So I just used my B3 for the mains. I had a flawless run!!! I held off two other B4s and a losi the final lap in stock for the win! Then had a great race with another B4 and took the win on the final lap after he wrecked for the Mod class victory! Long live the B3!!! Don't get me wrong I love my B4 but theres something about my B3 that wins me over. Maybe its because it gets no respect and is labeled the underdog or whatnot. This baby is far from retirement! Especially with all the spares I got!

Well done kilrbzz, keep it up!
I'm going to do a similar paint job on my B3. Good luck with your first body, just keep your hand steady and it's easy. (easier said than done)
Yep, that's what i've found too. My B3 has never been faster than it is now.
I've also got a big box of spares and tires, and i don't want to just have it as a spare car, but when it's got way too much slop I'll get a B4:eek: . I s'pose it shows that all modern buggies are so advanced that there really isn't much that can be improved on.

I added a couple more small washers:p That's as much detail as I can go into. Or maybe not, I think before I had a slightly thinner washer than it says in the manual so I added a couple more. It doesn't take long to change so have a quick go at the 2 extremes and see which suits the track better.
It's Myst's exact setup, with batteries forward (less spin-outs)
Great setup
I thought you were racing a Losi now?
Ya see what happens! I've been written off! Just because I have a Losi doesn't mean that it's all over for AE. On our workbench sits a T3, XXX-T, B3 and a XXX. On occasion the neighbor's RTR RC10GT comes over to play.
So, on the B3 you're jacking up the rear of the support more, resulting it less AS. Thanks for the info, the next time I go to the track maybe I'll change it and see.
Onto Myst's setup; with the battery forward are you still using the black fronts or did you have to go up to a green to hold the front up? I weighted the bulkhead with as much lead as would fit and used greens on the front to compensate. Maybe sliding the battery forward would have accomplished the same effect without the overall weight penalty. You still using split battery packs?
LouisB
05-30-2003, 12:33 PM
Oops, green springs too, thanks for reminding me:) it landed heavily off larger jumps with the blacks on. I still have spilit packs, but tend to run full forward, or sometimes
front 000[]000[] rear
If there isn't much grip then moving the pack forward is the way to go.
I don't know if it was the 12X5 motor but the only other thing i changed was the AS. I would have placed well in 4wd with my 2wd time, which rarely happens, especially when there's so little grip. It really was the easiest thing to drive, like a Losi but fast (j/k) ;) and I only made 1 mistake (got wide and on to the looser stuff and did a few spins)
......checks results....
Me, 19 laps in 5m11.13, fastest lap 14.87
4wd winner (XXX-4 with 9x2), 20 laps in 5m7.98, fastest lap 14.34
Not too shabby for a 2wd!
I have a losi too (of the S variety) and they're good cars, it's just you haven't been around here lately and I thought you'd given up on your B3. I was wrong!

Hey Louis your track has a med-evil look to it. Maybe its the stone walls. The straights look farely long too. My race on a dirt track too.
FYI : On a B4 note. I would wait till they make a production change in the chassis. Everyone including myself is discovering tiny cracks in the front or rear of the battery well. Not surprisingly, the battery walls are way thin compared to the B3 plus the B3 has the post at the end. Only a few people have reported failure, mostly just cracks. I simply lined the corners of the well with epoxy and/or shoe goo to re-enforce it. Cracking is to be due to chassis flex. They are working on a replacement. The T4 will incorporate the change before release.

A quick question for you all - what's a quick way to tell a B3 from an older B2? I mean an obvious characteristic, not a comparison with a B2 part. So far I'm thinking that the B3 has the kingpin ballstud, and the front shock tower has three holes for the shock instead of two - anything else I should notice? Thinking of buying one second hand and don't want an outdated car, spares-wise.

Hmm, a guy has a converted B2 at the track I race at... I never took a super good look at it, but all I can distinctively remember is that the front shock tower is different... that is about all I can think of.

Pudder's Race Report!
Well I got my shiny new B3 out to the track yesterday. At practice everything felt okay. I did have a steering problem but seemed to get that fixed later on that day. Then things went downhill... In the middle of the race, my brakes dissapeared. I couldn't turn worth a damn! And not to help anything, but my car started glitching and slamming into things. Okay, so before the main, I thought I got everything fixed... brakes working again, steering fine, no glitching... I got a fair start off the line, and quickly took second. The buggy was running great. Me and one other B3 were battling over 1'st place, and then it happened again, loss of brakes and glitching galore. I had to drop out of the race about half a minute before the end, I would have taken 2'nd atleast if I was still in. :(
Turns out my ESC is fried, which sucks because I wanted to spend my money on something besides a new esc...
-----------------------------
The Peak Hellfire motor is pretty good. I raced against another B3 with one yesterday. I am not sure how they perform exactly since I have never driven one, but I know they are decent. Myself, I would still take a Reedy MVP or Trinity P2k 2 Pro over it though.

dude that sucks:( The braking FET blew on my Quantum Comp. a while a go, bummer.
I'm working on a new body, but there's racing this Sunday so unless I get the chrome paint tomorrow then it will have to wait for the following meeting.
I finally got some of my Stormer order. Peak Carrera 10x2 (not for my buggy) a pack of PMR GP3300, RPM front bumper, new front tires and wheels. In theory my B3 should really fly on Sunday but racing never goes to plan;)

I also made my B3 a "truggy"... well sort of... I just put my T3 a-arms and turnbuckles on it, it should be interesting to see on the track.

Qualified 2nd and eventually won the A final. Really close racing all the way through, including a sweet pass down the inside and powering away over a jump:D

Well, I tried my hand again at racing the B3. I got my new Atom programed to my liking as well.
I did fairly well, placed first in one qualifier and 2nd and 3rd in two others. The main sucked. I was off to a bad start, got in a tangle with another driver, rear end was sliding around, antenna came off and so did the wing. I did about 3 laps then quit and went home.
However, despite the last little issue, the car handled great all day.

It lives! (I thought this thread had died)
pudder, glad you had fun, racing's like that sometimes (all the problems happen in the final)
I've had my wing come off during a heat, lot's of fun over jumps isn't it? Buggies look so stupid driving about without the wing attached.

PS I'm getting some stainless steel screws from RC ScrewZ (http://www.rcscrewz.com) which will put an end to my rusting problem for good, and look cool too
pudder
06-29-2003, 07:23 PM
Ya, the wing was the least of my problems. It was the glitching caused by my antenna coming off that really made me quit.
Oh well, I guess the fact that I got a few sheets of free aluminum today makes up for the bad main. :)
LouisB
06-30-2003, 06:21 PM
Glitches suck, but at least you knew what was causing it! Untraceable glitches are much worse.
What are you going to make with the alum?
pudder
06-30-2003, 10:29 PM
Well I got a few sheets that are 1x2 feet and a few other pieces that are about 3 feet long and about half a foot wide. :) It isn't too thick, about the same thickness as the motor plate on the B3, and it is "clear annodized" so it has a really nice finish on it.
I don't have anything planned for the sheets, but I got one chaneled piece that I am making a "Limo-Pede" with :) It will be over 3 feet long when I'm done. :D

Good job Louis! I was partying all weekend so no racing for me. I would have raced my T3 though, I have raced B3 for the last two weeks that I raced, so I need a change. :) I love having the 3'series of AE's, can jsut alternate when you dont want to race one or the other.
Great job Louis, what kind of cars were you racing against.
LouisB
07-06-2003, 04:24 PM
Thanks :)
Well the class is fairly small, but most of the top competition has been racing for around 10 years so the standards are always high. Losis are not as popular as AE but there are quite a few in the winter championships, I race against B3s, B4s, Schumachers and the odd Mardave normally.

The only thing bad about the B3 that I can think of is that the stock a-arm mounts suck. They break easily. Other than that it is fine, and mine seems to handle great on loose surface track I drive on. :)

Hey Pudder
Hey Louis
Just wanted to resubscribe to the thread. I thought it was dead. Glad to see otherwise.
I still run my B3 in Mod class or have it set up for a guest driver. There's still something about the B3 that I love driving it. And with all the spares I still have it will be around for awhile! I don't care what they say if you can drive the B3 can win! cya

I think there will be the first B4 at our track this weekend or very soon anyways. Guy buying it races B3 otherwise. There is quite a few buggies at our track this year. Last year I dont even think there were ever enough to have a buggy class on sundays. There is mostly B3's racing, as well as a B2, a cruddy Losi or two, and one or two original RC10's. :)

Sounds like a good mix of buggies, with the exception of the "TL cripple X" (j/k, I own a Losi TC and they are good cars but I still enjoy making fun of them)
pudder
07-16-2003, 08:01 PM
Cripple X... that's a new one, I'll be sure to use it at the track when I go racing next. :)
I'm trying to get my old RC10 Graphite going in racing form. One thing I dont like is that the RC10 universals don't accept modern rims, the design is a bit different, so I had to use my B3 rear carriers and CVD's to use my raicng rims and tires. :) I would have used my stealth but the B3 CVD's on the old RC10 platform are too long and bottom out inside the outdrives. :(
Needless to say, it's a lot of work I would rather not do, but it will be fun to race the RC10 again. I just need to move my reciever to the other side of the chassis (esc and reciever are too close) and it should be good to go.
Just thought I'd let you know what has been going on in my world.
Oh BTW, Limo-Pede is done. You can see it at http://midcanrc.mine.nu/pudder/limopede.htm

07-17-2003, 07:33 PM
Vintage cars a very cool, hope you get it up and racing soon.
The 'pede looks sweet, very neat job.
The slowest motor I have ever run in my B3 is a 13x2, until today when I decided I'd like to try it with a stock. I bolted on a P2K and had a bash (the real reason was to see how my new SMC GP33s performed) and it is so much easier to drive, and damn slow. The only class I've ever raced stock in is 1/12th (because 6 cell mod would be crazy) and stock is not very popular over here. So much so that it has been phased out of most classes. I'm not sure why, but I'm not complaining, the more speed the better IMO.

I havent raced my B3 in I guess 3-4 weeks now... I think I took a weekend to do party recovering, then raced my T3 one weekend, then last weekend I raced my old RC10. It sure was fun taking the old beast out again, though I didn't do too great with it, I had more fun than anything, and actually managed to tie 2'nd with another driver in the main.
I just got my B3 back together today, and am going to race it on the weekend. I'm going to try some different springs on the front too with different mounting positions. :) I also got to buy a set of rear tires too with a 3 day long race weekend coming up soon. :)

It is pretty cool to race in it. It is just a thing the local club does every year, it does it in indoor racing too. Friday is just practice from I think 6-9 pm and then first day is just qualifiers, four rounds, second day is two more qualifiers in the morning and then the mains.
The most fun race I have done though is a relay race at the indoor track. It is hard to explain it though.
Last year I raced with my T3 and old RC10 in the 3 day race, I placed second in the a-main, got beat by a 9 year old driving a buggy. :p She was the only one driving a buggy in the main! No fair! But I'm going to race my B3 this year, I'll show her! Muhahahhahaha!

07-27-2003, 06:44 PM
Okay, raced my B3 this weekend. First qualifier went okay, track had too many dirt clumps on it, second qualifier was better because it was dry just how I like it. Third qualifer was like the first, but I got stuck on a barrier, and there were no marshals looking, or even in the area, fortunately, the leader came around and hit my rear end on purpse to get me unstuck from the barrier.
The main went pretty well. I still need to take a small preload off my suspension in the front, and maybe a bit less damping would do good for the really bumpy parts, but other than that it handled good. I also played around witha few different armatures. I ran a worn out P2k 2 Pro arm in an MVP can first qualifier, then a newly trued MVP arm in the second qualifier, and the best of the three, somehow, a freshly trued 27 turn Mabuchi armature... atleast I think it was, hope I didn't mix it up with a stinger 20 turn since they look the same... I'll have to check later. :p I a few trucks got tangled up with me on the first few laps, but I quickly got ahead of them and pulled into third place. First place was too far ahead to catch, I almost caught 2'nd, but held onto third. It was a good day of racing.
I think it was the last or second qualifier that I get in a tangle with a truck (there were 3 trucks and 3 buggies so we got thrown in a class together) and landed upside down off the biggest jump, bent my wing right straitup. Man I hate wing wires!
Here's a pic after the race.

muddy track conditions!
I also went racing this weekend. We have been rained out for three weeks and we were determined to race. We recently changed from sand to clay and with so much rain it was just muddy clay! I practiced with my B3 and ran my B4 in the first heat. It felt sluggush compared to my B3 (same motor and gear ration). The B4 seemed to get bogged down with all the muddy clay while my B3 moved over the muddy ruts nicely! I tq'd the second heat but the main got rained out (lightning). It was worth all the cleaning time though!
Nice job pudder! Thats what a buggy should look like!:D

Good work pudder and kilrbzz!
Wing wire is indeed a pain.
I had serious glitching in the 1st round of qual, then went quick, then went slightly slower (track was drying out and there was less grip) but managed to get TQ. In the final I got sideways in the dust from the start and slipped down to 3rd. Everyone was taking the double in 2 leaps to be safe but I managed to jump over 1st and 2nd place to take the lead. Then the usual story, a roll or two but I stayed ahead to take the win, again :p

I got my rustler to handle very well and dominated the truck class before I moved to buggys. The rustler/stampede isn't a bad chassis, with some work on the drive train and suspension they handle pretty well :)
Woo Woo, I'm addicted ;)
pudder
07-28-2003, 02:54 PM
Oh, I'm not goign to do anything to it for handling, I just going to race it as is, setup with lots of damping for jumping, but it actually handles good on loose dirt and high grip surfaces with the stock tires... even hard to roll on grass. :)

Well bearings and a carbon chassis would be the most significant changes in a car. You want to reduce rolling friction which will give you a boost and by lightening your chassis, things only get faster.
Associated offers a full carbon kit which includes alot of carbon replace ment parts to make you ride much lighter and more rigid. You may wanty to save up for one of these since you can save like anywhere from 20-30 bucks if you buy the parts separately.
Get the bearings first, then a chassis. Get used to driving with the chassis because it flexes less and you will need to adjust other things on your car to accomodate it.

You can convert a B2 into a B3 if you can find a kit since TA halted production on these once the B4 came out. The kit was practically a B3 by itself.

If you want to customize your B3 a bit using non-Associated parts, you have a couple of options. There's always RPM's products that are readily available (rear arm mounts, ball cups, gear cover, bumbers), and then Racer's Edge has some nice aluminum pieces available. I had a blue aluminum top place, hinge pin brace, and transmission brace on my T3 that were really nice.
As far as the new B4 Stealth tranny, that won't fit your B3. At least it wouldn't be a simple bolt in procedure.

Do any of you guys have an idea of how much longer parts for the B3 will be available now that the B4 is out and the B3 is discontinued? See, I just bought a B3 off of Ebay, It was a deal too good to pass up, a team kit with 2 painted bodies, one unpainted body, 3 extra unpainted wings, 16 mounted tires, 10 extra rims and a bag of brand new spare parts including carbon fiber shock towers for $105. Anyway, the deal was too good to pass up and I thought, hey I'd only really drive it around in a dirt parking lot and every once and a while go to my local track and just practice on it, and maybe enter a race every so often. After I bid on and won, it hit me, the B3 is now a discontinued kit wich usually means they stop making parts for them. So I was wondering if I really did get a good deal or if I'm screwed and won't be able to get parts for it the near future. Any ideas would be helpful.

Does anyone know what size the capacitors are that the factory guys (Ryan Maifield) are using for the receiver to help with voltage drop?

I've been through the first day with 4 qualifier rounds with my B3 so far. The buggy is running like a dream, and my driving is at its top somehow (since I've been going hungover). However, my car just isn't fast enough to catch the rest of the field. My motors are just too old, dont get enough speed or torque anymore.
I'll be finishing up the race weekend today, and I hope I can stand up on the drivers stand for 5 minutes at a time, because going to bed just after 4:00 am and then getting up to to racing at 7:30 am isn't too good of an idea...

I have to say I love my B3! :D
It ran great both days, and yesterday it ran the best of all. I ended up starting I think second or third last in the a-main, got off to a bad start, but throughout the race I gained positions. Towards the end I was catching up to second place, but she was too far ahead of me, and I ended up taking third spot. If I would have driven a bit better I could have caught second, but first place would never be a chance, he is just too good.
I had a blast, and I will be racing my B3 a lot for the rest of the season!
Here is a pic of the starting lineup, modified to show the drivers stand too, in reality, the drivers stand is like the second pic. :)
Just to let you know, my buggy it the last on the left side of the pic, and I am the dude in the highway workers vest second to the right on the drivers stand.

Well the last two weeks of racing have been great. We managed to get together modified last weekend, and convince the guys this weekend to race mod too. :) I drove quite well both weekends, I did a lot better this weekend and we also figured out some ways to keep the track in better condition. I think last weekend I took 5/9 in the mod a-main. Most of the guys ahead of me were way too good to even consider catching up to, but I did mess up a few times which costed me some time. This weekend I took 4/8 in the mod a-main. I was neck and neck with, and actually held second place for a few minutes in the race, but I dont seem to drive great under pressure and messed up a little again. But I had a blast. I have raced against 3 B4's so far this year, and I have to say that I don't notice a huge difference compared to the same people driving the B3's they had before, although I have never driven one so I dont know, but my B3 has been handling superbly so I don't have anything to complain about. :)
Good job pudder!!

Sadly to say though, the top three buggies in the last little while have been 2 xx and one xxx. :( Mostly because they are the three best drivers that race in the class. Although I do have to say I am getting better at driving. I remember last year I tried hard to keep my truck pointed in the right direction, now I am managing to do controled slides and some fancy stuff with a buggy. :) I'll get better over time :)
I like buggies so much I'm thinking about getting the DuraTrax Nitro Evader BX. It looks like a good car, DuraTrax's products are getting better, and I feel like getting back into nitro for bashing atleast. :) I wish they would have an RC10 GB (gas buggy). But there is not really a demand for it. :(

Sunday (october 1'st) was the last sunday of offroad racing in 2003 at our offroad track.
Showup wasn't great since there was only 3 classes in total with one heat each, but we still managed to put together a good modified buggy class. My B3 ran good all day. Of course if anything is going to break or go wrong, it has to be in the main.... and it happened. I was doing fairly well, but my car started cutting out for no reason. I really dont know why, but it got worse as the race went on and I ended up stomping off the drivers stand swearing at my buggy. It was really too bad since I drove good all day, and was a gauranteed third place in the main.

I've owned Losi and Associated both and I like Associated better.
Just remember the big dogs at the Losi camp won with Associated first then went to Losi.
Associated has always set milestones for very durable cars and trucks that were very good performers.

Well in reading through these posts, I too am sad to say I must give up my B3 as well.
I have too many cars in my stable and never enough time to drive it. I loved the car, as it earned me many victories and top 5 finishes at my local track. I think I have over $500 in just spares alone, however most of those I think I will be selling back to my LHS.
The car itself has been very stable and i really hate to get rid of it. Any B3 owners out there want a 2nd car or even a beginner car thats competitive, let me know.
It has 3 sets of arms, some NIB
HITEC HFX ESC
Steering servo
Reedy MVP motor
matched 2000 pack
Trinity Tranny brace (very cool)
Worlds FT upgrade kit
FT turnbuckles
2 bodies
The list goes on.
I hate to let this friend go, but I need to in order to clean out my stable.
Email if interested.

Hi all, i just finished restoring my B3 buggy and man did i forget how much fun it is to drive.
right know i am running a crappy 17 turn double with my crappy duracrap speedcontroller, i cant really afford any new electronics b/c i am saving for a brushless system for it (:D ). I also painted up a new body for it too.
One quick question though, when i jump my buggy i always seem to land on the front end. Is there actually a art to jumping or is it just normal or something?

Yes sir!
This is an art but one that can be learned!
The following explanation also applies
to 4WD vehicles, but in 4WD, the effect is extreme.
When jumping, the normal reflex is to lay off the throttle in the air.
By simple act of slowing down the wheels and tranny, this will tilt the car forward.
Of course, the reverse is true!
If you take a bump at speed, hold the throttle to keep the car level.
If you want to land on the back wheels, take a jump where you are airborn before the car reached top speed.
By accelerating while in the air, the wheels and tranny will tilt the car
backwards, giving an arse heavy landing!
Enjoy :D

. . . Or it could just be that your rear suspension is too tight or too loose.
First test to see if it is too loose. When going off a jump listen to hear the chassis bottoming out on the jump face causing the rear to kick up. If so... go up 5wt in oil. Another way of testing is... first cleaning off the bottom of your chassis. the go around the track a few time and see if the rear is dirty.
Next... if it isnt too lose... it is probably too tight. Go down 5wt in oil.

My B3 has had daily use since I bought it, its great. I havent really jumped with it as such yet but there is a slope in the garden it likes flying off. Heading down it got a little bit of air, and then the back wheels landed first, making it pull a wheelie lol. Nice stuff.

Simen
pudder
03-16-2004, 07:24 PM
I race carpet track with my T3 weekly, so I can help you out a bit.
You will want to lower your suspension a lot. Run your buggy maybe half an inch or 1 cm, along with the stiffest springs available (I'm not sure the colors) as well as some 80 wt shock oil. As for shock and turnbuckle mounting positions, Start with them all to the fartest out holes, and with a medium length wheelbase. You can mess around with variable shock spacers and differential settings as well as the wheelbase, according to how you drive. I prefer to use a tighter differential setting with my T3 on carpet.
If you want to know how to lower your car:

Right now I have 2 cars licenced and on the road. One of them is a 1977 Ford Granada 2 door w/302. Its prettymuch stock, but I have straitpiped it and done some modifications to the air intake for a bit more power. I got some new rear tires on the weekend, and before they were put on I did a burnout about 200 feet down the street. :D I've had the car for about 2 months I guess and I eventually wantto put the 302 in my '78 F150 Ranger I have.
I also have a 2000 Chevy Malibu w/3.1L it is stock. Its my daily driving car though and drives well. I eventually would like to improve the intake system with a K&N filter, tint the windows and add some nice mag rims.
I have a 1965 Dodge A-100 truck in my shed. It is partially restored and still needs some body work and then putting together. It will take years to get going but it will definitely be worth it since it is a rare truck.

I saw a dodge a-100 today. It had a flat-bed on the back, it looked pretty sweet.

Try losi taper pin reds in the rear with pro-line ribbed M3's
