The Savage chassis is aluminum, so it won't rust, and for the moving/mating parts, any coating could cause fit problems. Rust won't happen easily, and if it does, a cleaning/soaking in something like WD40 and maybe buffing them pretty good should keep them clean.

Aluminum doesnt rust. Steel does. I have a 1yr old pocket knife thats rusted (very cheap) and I have peices of aluminum which are 2 years old and havent rusted.

Im going to be **** here, it can rust and will rust over a period of time. It will take years for this to happen though. I work with metal for a living. I've seen some wierd things.

Aluminum does NOT rust!!!!!!!!! It corrodes...over time....unless it's anodized or coated. Period!

What everyone else said. Aluminum does not rust. It oxidizes and makes that white powdery/slimy stuff is it is not treated with paint or some kind of coating.

When I put my nitro rc cars away for a while, I spray them down with wd40 or silicone spray and blow it off with high pressure air. It leaves a water/air proof layer which prevents any kind of oxidation. The grease makes the car look good too.

Ok, but isnt that the first stage of rusting. Oxidizing is also a form of rust. It has to Oxidize first before it corrodes, then pitting forms and layers start to develope and the rusting begins. Aluminium will rust like I said in my earlier post it just takes a long time for it to appear, unlike steel it is a very hard metal that surface rusts very fast. Havent you ever seen a pop can rust at a landfill.

Oxidizing is a form of corrosion, so is rust and rust is metal specific and occurs mainly in ferrous metals, such as iron & steel. Non-ferrous metals corrode, such as aluminum, lead, copper, etc.....
