I am building a folker DVll (rubber power) from Herr. I would like to alter it to R/C electric. I don't know anyone in my ares with experience so I hope some one here would have advice. Here are some details and components I'm considering.
wing area: 168 sq. in. airframe 31g (uncovered)
I've read some magazines and I'm considering-
Motor: msys 1524-1 26g
prop: Braun 26cm ?
Batteries: lithium-mah870x3 51g
(limited room, want some duration)
ESC: SCSH-7a-lith ?
Servos: wes-tech (2) cheap... 2.4g
receiver: sky hooks& rig 5g
covering: mylar?
skids or landing gear
Does this look like something that will work? Do I need different batterypack for 10 min flight? Please offer any advise or suggestions.
Thanks Mike 16

Hey! I built the same plane! It is a great kit. The hardest part is the wing jig. It is really tough to get the wings parallel. That spruce stock for the cabane struts is kind of heavy. I used .040 CF. Weight with comparable gear was 5.5 oz. You need lots of down thrust. The 1524 or GWS-DXA is just the ticket. Have fun! -Brian

Well, Everything looks good, but cover it in tissue. It would look much better.......

I just bought the Fokker today. Got home and the full size plans for the wing was missing. For future reference, I called them and they got another in Priority mail TODAY. I was impressed.
I'm going to use similiar components to finish mine, and I am not worried. Briant is absolutely correct on the GWS motor, it's cheap, and it flew my 28" Herr Stearman right off the ground on 7 cells. That motor will be PLENTY of power for the D VII.
I also agree with the tissue coment briant made. I used Lite-Span on my Stearman and it is tough (trust me, I've tested it SEVERAL times via walls, floors, asphalt, etc.) It looks great when covered in Lite Span, i can't wait to get mine finished. I'll send pic's of the Stearman soon.

Built the same plane 1 year ago. gentle and stable. Have to agree with the wing alignment difficulty. Takes a lot of trimming if its not absolutley straight.
I used Co2 (Gmot 120 twin) to power it. Kept it aloft for up to 2 minutes. A Gmot 300 would be just the ticket. 5 minutes easy. I posted this suggestion due to the incredible wieght saveing factor with Co2 power. Your radio needs very little power especialy if you go with the wes tech servos. you can then go with a couple lithium button cells for the radio servo electronics. This plane has BAD landing gear and does not like less than perfect landings. The added wieght of heavy RC gear will not present such a problem in the air if you have enough thrust, however a crash or even a less than perfect landing will more than likley crush your landing gear and mabey fracture the fuse.
Just an idea! -Mike

Stew Meyer of the DC Maxecuters has done a Herr Fokker DVII that looks really nice--see it in the rc microscale section of their website at www.his.com/~tschmitt/index.html (http://www.his.com/~tschmitt/index.html)
I think he used a Puma in it for power.
