Hello, I need some help in making a decision on what way I should go regarding rc kits. Should I go with RTR, or a kit that needs to be assembled. I plan on buying a monster truck of some kind, perferably nitro. Don't ask me what brand I've considered, because I really don't know alot about them at this point. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and can figure out things pretty well. But should I go with an RTR because it's simpler and it'll be up and running so I can hone in on my driving skills or should I go with an assembly required kit to get the full satisfaction of building and driving my own truck. I've owned a nitro Duratraxx buggy in the past, but it was used and finally the engine just quit due to abuse, although not to my knowledge at the time. I'm wanting to get back into rc and was just wanting some advice on which way I should go. I appreciate your response...thanks for you time..........:)

depends on what your budget and what you want, a kit is more expensive, usually, because you have to buy your own engine, raido etc etc, and a rtr has it all in one package......

Buy the truck that you like best and don't be concerned about RTR or kit. You stated that you are mechanically inclined, so even if your preference is a RTR model, you can always take it apart and rebuild it your way.

I like to build my kits, as it tends to seperate the Tyco from the man/woman. Besides, building is part of the experience of owning an R/C.
You shouldn't worry about the difficulty of assmembling one of these kits; manuals these days are very easy and detailed to follow, it's very hard to go wrong and of course, theres always this awesome forum here to inquire about certain things.

I would prefer a kit because if you crash it you know how to build it again. If it is an RTR and you do some damage to it you might not be able to fix it but because you are mechanically inclined it shouldn't matter. When I got my second hand TA02 I didn't know anything about it or RC but I figured it out.
You should be fine whichever one you choose.

I have had kits and RTR. I have had all my cars apart so many times for repairs and hop ups it does not matter if it was a kit or RTR. If you are mechanically inclined you will have it apart before long. Buy the truck you want and study the manual. This will be all you need to fix anything on the truck. Most big trucks are now RTR anyway.

If you get a RTR kit from a good company, they usually have full instruction so that when you have to take it apart, you will no problem.
I wouldn't getting RTR kit if you have to..

The T-Maxx would probably be perfect for you. It's a nitro monster truck that comes in RTR form, but the parts aftermarket is huge.
You'll have the convenience of a RTR, which will allow you to get started right away. With all the available hop-up parts, you'll be wanting to wrench on it in no time :)

It seems to me that most good monster truck packages are RTR.
I loved building my 2 kits, it's fun and a really good idea for when you break something. If you ever get a car bye kit, in the meantime get a SAVAGE RTR. Great truck and a bigger engine that the TMAXX. Have fun with it when you get it RTR. Tear it appart for 2 reasons, so you know how to fix it, and to locktite all the metal screws. LOCKTITE is a RC's best friend.
