I recently decided to get back in to rc cars ive been away for over ten years. I want to start racing again and i have a track near that races both electric and nitro on roads. My problem is what too choose I was leaning towards electric until i went to my locale hobby shop and they suggested nitro. So now im confused Im not sure if the hobby shop is trying to get a bigger sell. So i am looking for advice

Always be wary of advice from somebody selling you something: The LHS will surely make a bigger sale from a nitro vehicle.

You'll get the same thing the first time to buy you a car. They don't care what's best for you, but how much profit for them! That, however, is not a reason to not[ get into nitro.
The cost of nitro compared to electric has come down a lot in the last ten years, and "the need for speed" has increased its popularity tenfold. The real question is how much you want to learn and what suits your needs.
Outside of improvements in batteries, chassis, and electronics, running an electric is still the same - drop in a battery and go. Nitros require a little more investment in learning. You have to learn how to tune so it runs (and stays running) without overheating and siezing, and how not to blow it up. Although this is not rocket science and can sometimes can try your patience, you have to decide if that's what you want.
I run them both, and it's fun either way. There's plenty of people here who will gladly answer any Q's you have - check out the articles link on http://www.rccaraction.com, there's a great one there (I think it's entitled Getting into Nitro) that will help you decide.
Don't let anyone force the sale on you! :D
