Best Street/Race #5
Welcome everyone to the fifth Street/Race Competition!!
I appologize for the delayed start. Lets get to it!
The Street/Race paint competition will be open for entrees until Midnight June 30th.
Each month we will hold a Best Paint and Street/Race competition. If you can’t get your bodies done this month, don’t worry there will be plenty more to come!!
The winning bodies may appear in Radio Control Car Action or R/C Nitro!!
Restrictions: None
RULES for Street/Race competition:
1) Any body may be submitted to the competition (Truck, buggy, touring car, etc).
2) Any body submitted may NOT appear in another competition.
3) Photo editing the pictures (other than cropping and adjusting brightness/contrast) is highly looked down upon and may result in disqualification.
4) Anyone may enter a body (professional painters are welcome!)
5) Please refrain from insulting bodies in anyway.
6) Must fall within this month's restrictions (June restrictions: None)
7) Only 2 entrees per person.
8) Bodies should be painted within the last 4 months.
9) Bodies must be of a "street" look or be painted in a race car style.
10) Each body must be painted by the person entering the body.
Each submission must include the following:
Body manufacturer and size.
Paint used.
Masks used (hand or precut)
And of course, a body.
This month Rallysteve will be judging the Street/Race paint competition.
Each body will be judged by the following criteria (1-bad, 10-excellent):
Detail (score 1-10) (decals, grills, mirrors, roll cages, if its on a real car you score points here)
Design (score 1-10)
Execution (score 1-10)
The photo and background will not be judged. All that is needed is a clean photo that clearly shows the body.
Each month we will place some restriction on all entrees.
July restrictions:
Best Paint: "Heavy metal"
Best street/race: Sponsored themes.
GOOD LUCK

BODZ: Ok, please dont post more than 2 bodies each competition. Other than that, I enjoy the inspiration.
rx78gp03s: Yup.
GearGuy2002: Your half way correct, but the design does not really go along with full scale race schemes. Please dont feel my putting down your opinion, it is always valued and welcome. :)

Hoping this fits the definition of being painted in a race car style. It IS a race car after all!! if i had a race car, I'D paint it like this...
Details:
Body is Academy ‘lance’. 1/12th scale F1
Tamiya PC acrylic. Black, blue, white tiny bit of red. Some yellow ochre tint from the local hardware store to tint the ‘buff’ coloured sky.
No masks. All hand-brushed. Toothbrush for those bits that kind of look sprayed
Sitting on an academy SP3 1/12 pan.

that both Mercedes are "of course" 1:5 FG bodies with a 535mm wheelbase.
Colors are PS21 parkgreen for the ITC and PS1 white/ PS6 yellow for the EVO II.
Decals are all![B] costummade by myself. Thanks to FOLIA for plotting...

yes, the design is based on a 19th century japanese print called 'Fuji off Kanagawa' by an artist named Hokusai. it was one of a series of 36 views of Mt Fuji. this is one of the more famous views. I reckon you could probably get a copy from a poster shop.

boostspike: Cool body, but all entrees have to be painted in the last 4 months.
wimmerma: Slick, the size and detail of the bodies really help.
dpgumby69: Amazing, but unfortunately it doesnt qualify as a race scheme in our context.
Aluma: Cool, can you tell us the brand and/or colors of paint you used?

Body: proline extended cab maxx body
Paint used: Pactra metalic red and metalic silver.
Masks used: supplied by with the body.
inspiration: to have a unique look in a concourse competition, and watching this monster truck run over an orange car while it was drifting. ok so i dreamed it up. enjoy!

Alright boys and girls… You’ve waited long enough so let’s get to the results of the Best Street/Race Competition #5!
Here’s a quick recap of the format used to determine the score each car receives.
Detail (score 1-10) Decals, grills, mirrors, roll cages, if it's on a real car you score points here!
Design (score 1-10) Originality scores big.
Execution (score 1-10) How well you pulled everything together.
I will comment on each car that was posted and then announce the top three at the end. Keep in mind that along with the good comments I may give your car some ‘constructive criticism’. Don’t take it too personally!!! :) Ok?
Let’s GO!
--------------------
BODZ…
Now I know your entry was sort of ruled out, but I’d like to comment on it anyway.
DAYM! You’ve got some skills there buddy. Excellent work on the fading in the flag and everything else is very clean and well put together. Lots of colors and it works great… would’ve liked to have seen it mounted on a chassis though! Great job!
--------------------
Boostspike…
I guess yours is a little out of date… I thought it looked great though! Lancers have always been a favorite of mine and you did a great job on yours.
--------------------
dpgumby69…
Very nice work! I really like the Japanese inspired artwork. Unfortunately, mab_man20 has the last word on what’s allowed.
--------------------
Maxxcrazy…
Those things are TINY! I’m not too sure what they looked like before you did the bodywork, but I imagine you did a bit of customizing. I do appreciate the work you put into these, but I feel you should have smoothed them out a bit more before painting them… the surface still looks a bit rough. Cool idea though! I may go get one of these now and try my hand at it! :)
Detail – 3, Design – 7, Execution – 3. Total = 13
--------------------
orbitron…
Nice Beetle Cup Racer! I know how difficult it is to paint those micro bodies and you did a very clean job. Considering you painted it with cans, the fade is pretty good and I really like how you accented it with a reverse fade stripe.
A few more stickers or details would’ve been nice, but an overall good job.
Detail – 4, Design – 5, Execution – 7. Total = 16
The PT Cruiser.
At first I thought this was just a plain ol’ black body, but when I clicked on the additional pictures I could actually see what you painted! The pearlecent scallops are a nice touch and give the PT a sort of ‘hot rod’ feel. Nice.
Detail – 3, Design – 5, Execution – 5. Total = 13
--------------------
Blacken…
Nice job on your first touring car! I’ve read that there’s quite a few coats of paint on that thing and it probably shows in person, unfortunately the pictures don’t really convey that. Since this is a competition thread I think a different background would have shown it off much better… a filthy workbench isn’t the best choice. ;) Clean the wheels up and set it outside and I’m sure it’s really cool looking.
Good job on the carbon fiber decals, they contrast well with the body.
Detail – 4, Design – 5, Execution – 5. Total = 14
--------------------
rx78gp03s…
The monster truck looks good! Clean and simple. Although not very practical, your body mounting idea is innovative. Good job!
Detail – 6, Design – 4, Execution – 7. Total = 17
The Chevy truck looks really good! Can’t go wrong with rallye stripes and the red compliments the black and gray very well. I think the body could have been trimmed a little better (lower front valence looks rough), but everything else looks cool. Nice work!
Detail – 7, Design – 7, Execution – 7. Total = 21
--------------------
Cruelintentions…
Nice work on that Viper. Looks clean… not too original, but a well done job.
Detail – 6, Design – 6, Execution – 8. Total = 20
--------------------
m3kk4p4c0…
This is really cool! I really like what you’ve done here… but what’s with the dirty wheels!?!? Wheels really make the car. Scrub ‘em. ;)
Aside from that you’ve got a very clean, well done body there. Stickers are all placed straight and the body is trimmed cleanly. Very nice.
Detail – 6, Design – 7, Execution – 8. Total = 21
--------------------
FrankT…
Wow! That’s slick! Very nice paintjob and the chassis is spotless as well! Good choice of colors and they work very nicely together. Great job!
Detail – 6, Design – 7, Execution – 8. Total = 21
--------------------
In a 3-way tie for 3rd place…
wing…
Very nice as usual, but I’m rather disappointed that you only posted one pic… and that one doesn’t show very much of the car.
Paintwork is excellent as are the decals… I really need to see more of the car to judge it fully though.
Detail – 6, Design – 8, Execution – 8. Total = 22
Acecoolie…
Ah… a big ol’ 5th scale. Gotta love ‘em! Very nice, clean job you’ve done here. Good work on the custom decals… the Coke graphics go very well with the red paint. 5th scale bodies are very detailed to begin with and yours is no exception. Sweet Ferrari!
Detail – 7, Design – 7, Execution – 8. Total = 22
Aluma…
Nice job on the Volvo. I really like the back end where you’ve done the fade. The front graphic is cool, but in the photo it looks kind of ‘busy’. From far away it kind of gets lost. The tribal graphics on the side compliment the rest of the body nicely and I can definitely appreciate the effort involved in cutting them! Are those dirty wheels I see!?!? Grrrrr…
Very nice job!
Detail – 6, Design – 8, Execution – 8. Total = 22
--------------------
In 2nd place…
Jogrin…
The Ford truck is cool. A few more shots of it would have been nice, but from what I can tell it looks really clean.
Detail – 6, Design – 6, Execution – 7. Total = 19
The Toyota GT-One looks great as well. I really like the color combination you’ve gone with here. The copper contrasts well with the yellow and the addition of the sponsor stickers gives the impression of an actual replica racecar. The only thing I have a problem with is that it seems there are TOO many stickers on it. I think the nice paint scheme and about half of those stickers would have pulled it off even better. Regardless, it’s very well done and looks cool.
Detail – 7, Design – 8, Execution – 8. Total = 23
--------------------
And now our winner!!!
Wimmerma…
A couple more 5ths I see! These both give me the same impression so I’ll judge them together.
Excellent paintjobs on both cars and I love the extra details such as mirrors, antennas and hood emblems. Super clean with nice decal placement. I especially like how you’ve ‘rolled’ the drivers window halfway down on the EVO II for engine ventilation.
Great jobs on both cars, but if I had to choose one over the other, it would be the EVO II.
Detail – 8, Design – 8, Execution – 8. Total = 24
--------------------
Thanks for posting your cars, guys!!! There’s a lot of talent out there… can’t wait to see what the next thread holds!
