hey guys,

Old guy here. (35)

not that old , but from the ages of the guys i've been reading about I am old.

anyway, I am looking to buy something different. I have the shockwave air boat, but it has to be very calm to use it. I want something that can handle the waves and keep my wife from fainting of the price.;) .
I am looking at a few mentioned here in the forum and on other web sites.

Take note I am in Canada and everything costs almost double the American price!:(
I have the ABC Hobby Freedom RZ, Megatech Wicked Angel and Cen Nitro RTR Grey Thunder in mind. All which will go over the $300 mark which don't bother me a bit since the Traxxas Nitro V up here goes for $550 and definately not worth it since the plastic is so thin and will crack with the fuel on it, unless it is fuel proof, but still... Not worth $550 + tax at 15%

Ramble...... Sorry....

Just want some input on the drive system of the Freedom RZ. Says belt drive. Didn't see that before. Any experienced comments about that?

I am also an old guy (31) who has just gotten back into the sport after 15 years off (my last r/c vehicles were Grasshopper, Frog, Hornet, and Blackfoot). Just a few weeks ago, I purchased my first boat (as well as my first nitro vehicle). I bought the Megatech Wicked Angel RTR kit since I was completely uninterested in building my own. Over this past weekend, I managed to finally get it started. Once that happened, it has been much easier to start. I have run 4 tanks of fuel through it on the bench. I rigged up a garden hose attachment to the water pickup on the boat to keep it cool. Let me tell you, when you get this thing's fuel mixture set right, and get on the throttle....man it sounds awesome! Sounds like one of those Japanese crotch-rockets. I haven't put this thing into the water yet, but I can imagine that it will in fact go the 35+ MPH right out of the box as Megatech claims. To make a long story short, go with the Megatech Wicked Angel-you won't be disappointed. AND, you can get them on Ebay brand new for less than $250. That's where I got mine. I actually got the boat and the nitro starter kit (which included 2 pints of 25% fuel, glo-starter and charger, 12 AA batteries and, 4-way wrench and 2 glo-plugs, all for $299.

i would recomend a nitro vee because it can handle waves well but considering the price of it in canada i would say to go with the hobbic hammer

I'll be 27 this month - Getting old. LOL

anyways I've heard the CEN grey thunder is good as a nitro.

FlyerCAN

the CEN Grey Thunder is also nitro...
But it is only 28" long. If i am to put it in rough water i will need a bit bigger boat than that.

It was one of the boats on my list of choices, but i took it off when i found out the size.
Makes me sound a bit like a woman

This hobby keeps me out of trouble.

Our friend Baja Destroyer made a comment a while back towards Ron about why didn't he have a 'real' boat instead of playing with 'toy's. (its all good now bro', but we never forget;) )

I before the military, I had a nice boat that I miss it a lot, but I'm happy with this hobby. Being a 'shorepounder' has allowed me to get as close as possible without actually getting wet and to help others along the way.

Btw, I used my boat almost weekly. Took this boat in on trade when I sold cars back in the day for almost nothing. 4.3l chevy that purred like a kitten. 55mph top end and would run all day on 25 gal.

Other boat used to be a Stratos bass boat with 150 Mariner. She'd haul mail at 65+mph (gps).

I love this hobby and a lot of the good folks I've met along the way.

LOL

i think i've come to a decision about which boat.

Prather commander arr deep vee 46"
hull is $299 US
Primary accessories $178.54 US
and since i can separate the bills i will get it sooner than i hoped

I already have a couple of 2ch's so i will save that much in the cost.

Hope to be racing soon.

as for the gas motor....

do i have to get one especially for this hobby or can i just buy a wipper snipper and use it with some hobby mods to it to make it work?

any info on using a gas motor is appreciated.

what do they go for ready to install anyway?

from cheapest way to the best way info is wanted.

oh and as for my choices, if any of you see a better deal out there let me know eh!:D ,Canadian in me getting out LOL, but in same specs. Gas, type of hull( vee or cat) and length or longer

Thanks guys.

My .02 says that if you pay more than $800 RTF then you got ripped!

Talk to the guys over at any one of these places and see if they'll work with you.

http://www.whobbies.com/
http://www.rocketcityracing.com/
http://www.aeromarinerc.com/

No way I'd be afraid to come out and ask for a little help on price. Maybe they they have a good used engine they can toss in there instead of a new one. Maybe they have slightly blemished hull,,,

You never know till you call and talk. If you talk to Mr 'C' over at WHH, tell him Jamie sent you (the guy over in Germany). He'll remember me and take care of you. And thats not to take anything away from the other places out there, but these are the ones I regularly hear good stuff about and plan to do business with in the future.

Hope that helps CAN!

You're also mentioning about the Prather hull. Damn, I hate to do this in open forum but I will.

I personally don't care for them.
The flex shaft runs under the boat. Hardware isn't the best quality.
Hull? I'm shaking my head that it is a good boat, but the other takes away from it.

Those guys mentioned above have proven hulls and gear.
I really like the Iso-Pad installation for the 'do it your-selfers'.
Support? I don't feel left out to dry after the purchase.
Though some is as basic as it gets I still feel that its better quality than the other one you brought up.

CAN, this is my .02. You asked, I replied.:)

I will be looking into the sites you linked me to
I don't mind used cause most of the work is done for me.
I love R/C but i don't care much for the time spent putting them together form the beginning, just when it needs repairs.

Thanks again DD

I like your hull but i can't seem to find it online.

I could have the 57" enforcer hull for the same price as a 46" prather

does the enforcer hulls come with a radio box?

Doubledog
07-06-2003, 02:19 AM
Not sure. But they are cheap to buy from most places so I wouldn't worry. You'll be impressed with the quality.

All I had to do to mine was install the radio, put the drive in along with some fuel and let that baby go! (after breakin of course):D

The prop was even razor sharp and attached to the drive!

Check out the link here.

I looked all over for the review on my boat. (it was in the october 2002, I've read it online and now its missing) plus an article on the Manta Ray that ShannonSC & Brushless have.

EVEN THE NITRO HAMMER FOR YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!

We'll talk more when you decide what you want, and that way we can discuss a few 'extra' thing to keep in the tool box.

but for now, take your time and don't forget about what I mentioned about calling them and asking for a blemish, or used motor. Could save some $ and still get an outstanding boat.

What do you think of the pro boat 55" shockwave w/zenoah23 & tx @ $900

http://horizon.hobbyshopnow.com/products/description.asp?prod=PRB2000

or

Magnum 57 Kit
Magnum 57 Hull - EZ23 Pro-Modified Zenoah Engine - SPDIII dual - Pro Wet Tuned Exhaust Your Pro Kit comes from our factory meeting all of our factory specified requirements, including: pre-drilled holes, all fiberglass work completed, ready for final assembly. Your boat Kit can be completed in as few as 4-6 hours. You will be rewarded with a model that performs equal to a factory assembled model. the benefits of assembling your own Enforcer Kit are priceless. besides saving a bit of money., you will know and understand the basic mechanical fundamentals of gas model boating. this is sure to be an asset when upgrading your model, or even assembling a more complex Enforcer boat in the future.
bcpro $ 1062.00
Thinking of changing the kit to save a few $$ by downgrading the hardware and engine to the stock zenoah and xp hardware. Just to make it quicker to get started. Will do upgrades as I go.

Personally I think the pro boat is a deal but the 57" Magnum is DA BOMB!!

The kids gave me one for Xmas, quite a disappointment when I took it out of the box. The hull was split in two places from shipping, but the box wasn't damaged. There were several stress cracks in the upper deck and the overall quality was pretty poor. Maybe it was the only bad one shipped from the manufacturer, but I would be a little cautious. Needless to say, it went back without ever having gas put into it. The Pro Boat offerings have not gotten much good press.

I love the quality of my Warehouse Hobbies Manta Ray.

Thats also what Shannon SC has.

The company has been into rc boats for a long time.

and they make most of their products in house.

So far I'm 100% Satisfied with their products.
