scorpien,
balancing and sharpening help reduce shaft vibration, prop resistance, propwalk, and i think also prop slippage. they increase the speed and performance of your boat. i can do a basic balancing/sharpening job on your prop, and for alot less than octura resellers will charge you. i don't do polishing because it's a waste of time and i believe satin finishing decreases prop slippage, i can sharpen it according to your preferences. email me @ mmlennarz@earthlink.net if you're interested.

im good at 440s, i just did one and i'll have to do it all over again!! [hey david, there's a good side to everything....lol]
if you're using the x440, i bet a prather 215 ss would be the best prop for your boat. around the same dia./pitch, plus prather props come in better shape so the same amount of work will produce a better prop....stainless is much stronger and wont dent where BC will, and it doesn't have toxic dust.
hey ron, im takin' you and Eric's advice- will soon have a p220 SS strapped to da back of the .21 mono!!

when you get a new prop it is important to ballance and sharpen. You can get a good prop balancer for about 20 bucks. pollishing them untell it looks like glass helps a lot. A prop that is not balanced will destroy your boat. Vibration is deadly, it will even mess up your radio reception. the x440 is a good prop!

haljmac,
i gotta disagree with you there.......there are seperate theories about prop finishing, some people believe that polishing is better because it decreases drag and resistance, and some believe satin finishing is better because it reduces slippage. seeing that andy brown satin-finishes his, that theory obviously has some truth to it. i prefer to satin finish mine because it's easier and ive tested the EXACT same props, one satin and one polished, and they were either no different or the satin finished one accelerated a little faster. this is with monos though, could be the opposite with hydros.

Joe I do agree with you on that, a statin finsh does work better on slower rpm's. But before you really disagree with me, have you tried a prop. that has had all of the concaves taken out and polished until it looks like you a looking through it? If not try it, you may change your mind a little.
