I'm in the middle of ruining two bodies for my electric TC3.
This Saleen
http://home.comcast.net/~john.hauser1/S7onTC3.jpg
And this Acura
http://home.comcast.net/~john.hauser1/Acura_1___Rip_Checkers.jpg
Here (http://home.comcast.net/~john.hauser1/ElecTC2.mpeg) is the Acura running it's paces.
On my nitro tc3, I'm running the crap that the guy sent with the car.
FYI, have you other painters noticed that the uglier the body, the longer it lasts. If I spend 4 or 5 hours on body, I can guarantee I'll rip the front or rear end of the car on the first run, but if I run some painting failure, the damn thing will last ages.

Here's what I'm running right now on my Super. (And what I will be running at the HPI Challenge in MI.) I tend to do more simple schemes for my own bodies. If I do a nice technical job I tend to see $$$ signs.:) So for me to keep a body, I kind of have to back off the nice stuff. May sound lame, but that's how it works for me.

Haunted-i really love the integra! What red did you use for the Saleen?
I can totally relate..bodies that i have painted and hated that i run(because i couldn't give them away) doesn't seem to go away! i'll crash 'em and roll 'em but they STILL are intact!
RCADDIKT-That is nothing close to being simple! Thise white bars must have taken Forever to do! Nothing lame about being a good businessman!
Painters! Bring it! The question is always asked..what would you run for yourself?

Thanks Charlie! One day I'll have to come out there so you can teach me to do shadowing like yours. They always look like you could fall into them. What is that black paint up front? Are you just spattering other paint before the black?
rc, I'm with you. I usually race my painting screw ups.

Charlie, do you dream of painting these bodies at night? I know why you don't sell taht one. niice

Haunted-i put some micro flakes into some Createx Retarder and spayed a light mist before shooting the black.
Scomp87-the problem is, i do these bodies at night..(no sleep)lol

Hey Charlie_B, do you mind if I try those flames out for myself, actually can I recreate something similar to the body you posted on this thread? I feel the need to try it out for myself, just to see if I'm capable of doing it. :)

I use my race bodies to experiment so mine always have wierd stuff on them. Here's my TC3. Since I only get to run it a couple of times a year it should last me a loooong time.

Tamiya made a 787B RC back in 1991 when the car took LeMans. It was on the group-C 2WD chassis which also beheld the Nissan R91CP, the Mercedes C11, the "first" Honda NSX, and the Nissan 300ZX IMSA GTO, which is not to be confused with the 300ZX IMSA GTS that was on the TAO2 4WD chassis. Sorry for all of the Tamiya trivia.
BTW, you can still find the 787B NIB on eBay from time to time for a pretty reasonable price, but the paint job on the body and the decal application is one of the most difficult out there. Now and then people sell the ones that they built, and most have only been shelf queens, so they look wonderful, and you can get those for a nice price.

WOW thanks Charlie! I made some mistakes doing that body that I want to correct. Guess I'm just gonna have to do another one for fun.
Here's the body I HAD on my 1/8 buggy till I broke the nose off. It also managed to get in another magazine's race coverage of the Houston RC Pro Series.

Charlie,
Wouldn't this post have been more fun if CharlieB showed us a body that was one solid color? It would be the ultimate in irony if all these other painters run a solid color w/ no special effects on their personal race cars.
Something in a Red or Green or Black. None of this Marble effect.
Nice and PLAIN!!!!!!
Just a thought.
Im still down for coming to SoCal for the TFT race this year. Let me know once the details become more solid.

Well here's my replacement ......... experiment/screw up for my 1/8 buggy.
#1 candy red backed by black doesn't give a dark red it gives brown!
#2 I seriously need a tutorial from Charlie B. on shading and probably another airbrush. :(

Can't wait mab_man....sounds like it will be sweet. :D :p BTW everyone who posted pics: excellent work, keep 'em comin'!
I wish I could paint that good. I would post a pic of my truck, but when I let my friend drive it a week or two ago, he rolled it and now my wing is all funked up and part of my front grill decal ripped off. :( The sad part is it was an expensive body that I put a lot of work and time into...oh well, it only gives me an excuse to try another design sooner, once I get the $$$.

I usually hate those multi-color, triba,l flame paint jobs (mostly because I'm jealous, bitter, and extremely untalented), but that looks sooooooo good. Howlong did that take?

Here's my current bod. I painted this a couple weeks ago the day before I was gonna get my first chance to race the car. Really rushed it, and took less than 2 hours on the whole thing. I just got my digital camera back, so it's had a few race days on it already...... obviously.
Body: Frewer Lola
Paint: Faskolor Fasescent Purple faded to Fasblack, Fasflourescent Yellow, and Fasflourescent Green with some createx dark green in ther in the rip area.
Photos: Horrible. The green is actually streaked in the ripped area, and all of the colors pop alot better, and contrast really well. I just suck with a digital camera. I really don't feel like color correcting all of the images.
http://www.dropkicked.net/images/rccars/lola.jpg
Oh well, I just got my impact, and knew I was gonna total the body pretty fast, so I wasn't gonna spend forever on it.

the trash that is. All I can say to you guys is...wow.
I realize now mine have been very simple (which is not always bad) and have gotten me a few $$ for painting other peoples cars. But now that I have a taste of it, I want more... but need a compressor first. :( The nice thing about working at a sign shop, I can cut all the custom masks and print decals that I want. So all the cars have been masked with cut vinyl (most people think it's a decal)
Anyways, the Lotus was my first car ever. Metallic blue and Indy Silver (rattle cans).
Accord (my fav to date) Teal / Indy Silver (rattle cans) with neon orange vinyl pinstriping.
Eclipse Metallic black / Candy red with silver metal flake added (airbrush).
In the works.... Mercedes CLK-GTS and an F-1 for Tamiya F201
Don't everyone laugh too much at these.
