OK, so where's the video? If RCCA managed to get 51 out of it, it sounds like your claim is off close to 20mph. No small amount, to be sure. I like the idea of the big block, though.

CEN Racing
07-11-2003, 09:03 PM
If you check RC Car Magazine. They have no problem doing 58-63mph on a small local track which only have 3-4 sec of straight line run time. So 70mph is definitely possible as long as there is enough room. And then if you check RCCA's review chart, they have 9 sec of run time (about 3 times more) but yield around 10mph less, you know something is wrong.

If RC Car magazine ran their car for 9sec like Car Action did, they will yield 70+mph. But they only go WTO for about 4sec.

The car we provide RCCA have a wrong engine and we didnt find out until its printed. So the one in toruing car issue and possible in Nitro magazine ( not sure) both are tested with wrong engine. :( It our facult. We have to provide the car long before its available to public so its not in boxes and we grab the wrong one.

There will be another CT4 S review in Car Cation Magazine in the next few issues which will be test with the correct engine.

We will be videotyping CT4 S in the next two week or so. We still trying to find a drag strip that allow us to do it,. California raceway is close until August for whatever construction they are doing and Pomona Raceway is not responding their email. :(

spenzalii

Strange, they seem to like the 'wrong' engine. Great idle, they sai. What was wrong with the engine, btw?

CEN Racing
07-13-2003, 08:03 PM
Nothing wrong with the engine. It just have way lower compression (so way lower power) and way lower engine RPM compare to the final spec. It will still start on first pull, and idel forever. We have a line of CT4 S with all different engine spec laying around, and we just happened to grab a wrong one. Again, its our facult.

This might sound like a excuse but i am sure you can clearly tell by comparing RCCA's test result with RC Car's test result.

One yield 58-63mph with 3-4 sec of run time and another yield 51mph with 9 sec of run time. Isnt it clear something is wrong?

spenzalii
07-13-2003, 10:51 PM
Haven't seen the rc car review yet, but removing belt tensioners and netting 51 does seem a bit off. The 58-63 sounds cool. NOw when is the 3 speed coming out? (Bye bye Fusion...)

Nice looking chassis and low CG.

btw are those Cen line of engines available seperately?

CEN Racing
08-26-2003, 02:49 PM
Yes. The NX-15 "lighting" is available seperately.

By the way everyone, we are preparing all of our cars for the movie clips at CA speedway.

So when will this video finally be made and will one of the cars use the 3speed you guys have been talking about?

spenzalii
08-29-2003, 09:19 AM
Good question. That's exactly what I'm waiting for. Teo other questions: Will the 3 speed be adjustable? And will there be an optional receiver box for the car? I hate exposed receivers and wires.

CEN Racing
08-29-2003, 12:09 PM
CA Speedway finallly gave us a answer. Video recording day is Sept. 30 . They have some race going on in the beginning of Sept.

We dont have a receiver box but we do have a receiver bag for the receivers.

We are videoing bone stock CT4 S. And while we are at it, we willl also do .21 CT4 and some others

chris jones
08-29-2003, 03:42 PM
What about the 3 speed? Are you guys going to produce one?

chris jones
09-09-2003, 08:47 AM
Cen Racing - Will one of the cars in the video have a 3speed? If not does this mean you are not going to produce a 3speed?

CEN Racing
09-09-2003, 12:01 PM
WE will be running the car in bone stock form at this time.
3 speed, thats later on.

nitrohead5300
09-24-2003, 07:03 PM
Hey, Team Cen - Got any updates on the car? Are you ready? You made some big claims about doing 70 miles an hour ! I hope you are ready its almost SEPT , 30 GOOD LUCK.

CEN Racing
09-24-2003, 07:21 PM
We just hit 70mph at Anaheim stadium packing lot. Thats in 1/10 quarter miles.

Cant wait for next tuesday.

nitrohead5300
09-25-2003, 10:30 AM
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You mean you hit 70 miles an hour in just 132 feet? Wow!:D

nitrohead5300
10-02-2003, 07:12 AM
Cen Racing - Well it is Oct 2. How did it go at the strip? What was your top speed? When will the video be release?

CEN Racing
10-02-2003, 01:45 PM
Here is the issue. 1/10 onroad is too short and small that it wont trigger the speed sensor on the ground. Its not high/tall enough. So we going to shoot a short clip in parking lot to prove our CT4 S's ability for the mean time while trying to work out the sensor issue.

We try to attach a flag onto the antenna which works but car become undriveable due to Fontana wind and drmatically reduce top speed.

nitrohead5300
10-02-2003, 04:25 PM
Cen - Maybe there is a local rc drag club that maybe willing to let you guys use their timing system if you do some networking. I am really sorry it did'nt workout.

sorry to jump in like this but does anyone here have a photo of CEN's Citroen Xsara body?

i think the photo on the site is of a static model......

i've been looking for a few months now and the only other that makes them is Protoform but the body looks slightly out of scale and the wheel wells are an odd shape.....

i guess i got spoiled on Tamiya bodies....

but i want to be sure before i plunk down the cash for two bodies.....

anyone?

the Protoform body....

I just picked one up and I say KUDOS to CEN, The product is very well put together, the detail on my Mercedes is awesome. There are options for the ct-4s, They are aluminum flywhel, graphite upper deck, shock towers, alum pivot balls, ball diff,one-way diff, alum turnbuckles, threaded shocks, centriforce clutch, universal swing shaft, and some other things, mainly the ct4-s are the Pro racing sedan parts. I have to break-in engine first and it is raining of course and then the time trials begin. we shall see.

The only thing is if you are going to spend all the money on the hop-up you could get the ct4-r, it more money now but better in the long run, and you can go straight to a .21

raderrustler

I want to buy a CT4-S, just wondering what kind of bodies will fit on it, 190mm? 200mm? HPI bodies?

and is there a way of finding out more upgrades for it, beacuse all the upgrades parts for it are not cleary stated, and don't have pictures, so I don't know what to get, will Cen come out with more real hop-ups for it?

thanks

I would like to thank CEN Racing's customer service. In particular I would like thank, Mike and Timmy. These guys are the greatest.:D There was a small leak in my fuel tank and they replaced it no questions asked. Fast service, as well. So anyone thinking of buying somewhere else, you won't get the same personal customer service you get from CEN. I have a couple of nitros and the hobby people I talk to don't seem to know jack about the product they sell. Well, CEN does! They know thier product and are willing to help the customer.

Highly recommended!!!

My CEN is now an Outlaw Latemodel, not much in the way of modifications, just labor and a few chassis/shock and other changes, now this machine handles the dirt oval like nobody's biz. I've had 3 offers on it in one afternoon at the track.http://www.radikarz.com/files/dirt_4_rspro.jpg It goes as fast as it lookshttp://www.radikarz.com/files/dirt_1_header.jpg

radikarz

The drive belt system is reliable, but one small rock in the pulley gear can tear up any belt, so I laid down a sheet of .010 clear lexan on the chassis when I stripped it down. Put in some small side barriers too. Haven't had any probs yet, and I ran dirt.

I raced the CTS4 at HobbyTown USA, in Sioux Falls South Dakota, on Sunday. A small twisting road course, with a 70-foot front stretch. It was 91 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, and no breeze. I got 2nd in first round heats. Got another 2nd in second round heats. Now get this, I cranked up the richness on the carb, about a third of a turn, I didn't want to flame out, and the ol' CEN CTS4 won the A-MAIN, by 7 laps!!!!!! Everybody was flaming out in the heat. My car did once, but quickly restarted and beat the HobbyTown house/team car by 7 laps!!!!Just Awesome!!!

whats the diffrence between the ct4s and ct4r?

CENthasizer
07-16-2004, 05:30 PM
the r is for racing, basically its all the upgrades on the ct4s, but with out electronics and engine... so if you get a ct4s and you buy all the upgrades, it will be like 4x more expensive than if you just bought the ct4r with everything set up...

Hey guys!!! A friend and I ordered our CT4S's from Z-Car with the priority shipping and it took over a month to get them in and I even tried to call and no answer. Something about they mest up on postage. But it took me over 3 e-mails to finally get a responce. So thrasher custom keep tring or try and call. And next time try and order from RCV Racing or RCModels. I got new parts from RCModels site and it took about a week to get my parts in. Just compare prices from those two sites. Both sites go by the part manual for the CT4S.

Hey radikarz, can you post pics or send me an e-mail showing how you put in your belt guards. My friend and I have already sheaded one gear, first gear I think the 42-T green one, and we are tring to figure out how to make a guard. Just about every time we run our cars we get tiny rocks stuck in that gear.

But for the most part I am very happy with getting the CEN CT4S. My friend and I have some really good video of our cars doing 360's, drifts, and crashes. We are going to try and set them up on a web site.

Later for now, hopfully those sites will help with parts!

T-MAN-iR

I want to know how long has everybody had there CEN CT4-S and R's. And what problems have you had, what you have replaced and what up-grades have you done. So maybe we can help each other out on any problems that my come about or suggestions on ways to make our cars better so we can beat the compitition.

I have had my car for 2 months now. I got my car in July. I have had to replace the 42 tooth gear. Too many rocks getting stuck and shreading teeth. The first one had 2 teeth back to back brake off. And the new one is missing one tooth. So a good suggestion would be to either make some kind of housing to keep out rocks or buy a few extra gears so your not out any down time waiting for a gear or having to take time to find a place that sales CEN parts for the CT4.

Also the front drive belt likes to come off. Mine mainly comes off under hard braking. I am guessing the stress from moving at a high rpm to 0 is alot of strain. So if you have this problem buy a few extra front drive belts. Today my belt came off 4 times in one tank of fuel so I went ahead and cut the belt. So now I have to replace it. Luckly I have an extra. If you want to do alot of 180's and 360's from stopping and starting, take off your front drive belt. You will be supprised on how much the front wheels keep your car in check.

Just purchased a CEN CT4S (Mercedes) RC Nitro car. Ran great the first few times, during break-in. The main drive belt then came off, entangling itself within the body, requiring an arduous 2 hour disassembly and repair. It quickly came off again twice more, causing me to shelf the car for now.

Not sure this is a chronic problem with all CT4S's, but it sure put a damper on our Xmas! :(

I hear what your saying about the front belt on the CT4S. After successfully running in the engine and getting some great speed I slowed down and the front belt jammed on the rear pully destoying the front belt. It appears as if the rear pulley moves around on the shaft. Does anyone know of a fix a big downer when you have just run the car in and the front belt destroys itself.

I'm having the same problem with the front belt. I have my CT4-s for three weeks now and it has crashed a lot, but all the time my fault. I had a front crash so hard that the gas tank broke and the receiver's battery pack broke too. I adapted a gas tank from another car since the hobby shops in my area don't have cen parts, and I don't like waiting. I installed a brand new FUTABA 2PL system that solved some steering problems I had.
With all the crashes that I had, I can say that the car can take a hit and survive.

rc350
01-24-2005, 11:20 PM
It is quite clear that the front belt is a big problem, does anyone know how to fix it or if CEN has a fix. I tried to fix the problem but it still keeps coming off as mentioned. Also does anyone know what gearing you can get to gear the car down. It has great top speed but it takes too long to get going (no bottom end). My CT4S won't hit second gear on our main straight and needs more bottom end punch.
This is my first nitro car but I have been in RC for many years and so far the CT4S has not rated favourably in the reliability stakes. I did not expect to be replacing belts and pulleys so quickly.

radikarz
03-23-2005, 01:19 PM
Drop the gearing on the clutch bell a tooth or two, I installed a 4 shoe racing clutch, and it's great out of the hole, it will shift in about two seconds, try a centax clutch type, and as far as the front belt problem, I used a roller bearing and two thin flat washers on each side, leaving some play in this assembly, but cranking up the tension adjustment for the belt helped alot. I fabricated belt covers out of lexan, took a long time, but no problem with rocks anymore. Racing starts in three weeks, going for my second track title in nitro with the CT4S with the new Turbo .15, and using the TC3 in electric again. I had 14 A-Main wins between the two last year. I work on my cars alot between races, check everything, tear down, and rebuild. But I love it, once it's in your blood, you're hooked.

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a ct4s tomorrow. I'm no expert but have been speaking to loads of people about them on forums.

I've been told to ensure that the breaks are set so they don't lock, this should help resolve the drive belt issue - (Apperently)

Anyone got a ct4s? whats it like - the construction looks really good compared to other rtr models in a similar price range.

Hey. I got a CT4-S. I got it right when it came out and I love it. I have nothing bad to say about it at all. I have crashed a few times but no major damage. That roll bar does alot!! The most common broken part for me are the suspension arms. I put a new RB pipe and some slicks on it. Its a really fun car to drive and a great car on the track. Anyone out there looking to get one, PM me and feel free to ask all the questions you want about it.

My ct4s came with standards G84310-01 (T42) and G84310-02 (T38) spur gears. I was told that other versions/revisions of ct4s came with G84302-32/G84313-03. I searched the web and found a photo of G84302 ans seems to be different from G84310-01.

Also, I found G84307-XX for Fun Factor series maybe compatible, but they have more theeth, ¿also a greater diameter?

So, finally, ¿what spur gear can I use different from standard T42/T38?

hmmm....

has anybody out there found any good CT4 resource sites? i am about to go looking again but irmbr last time i checked i could find hardly anything except for one site which has now been closed.

its a damn nice RC that seems to be hurt by the fact that with its great numbers attracts the demographic it was targeted for....but scares away the others when they see the same :(. its a shame, with some more experienced RC'ers getting behind these CT4s we could see alot more realistic feedback and improvements for these cars.

at the start of the year i got to mess with one and spent a bit of time observing another. they are damn great...tested quite extensively with another competitors "top speed" machine and i can easily say this is worlds superior in every way...strangely enough if anything that other car might have had a tighter belt setup.

my last .02 on this car though, for everyone worrying about the belts coming off....its kind of to be expected with belt drives off the full time track. i wouldnt put this anywhere above or below standard for that sense. you should just try experiment with tensioners and adjusting the brake caliper. improve your driving as well and it will help keep everything together and less creeky.

btw...i did not mention i picked up one of these with a friend to do some parking lot racing here at home, unfortunately the group that took over the events torpedo'd the races so i never got to try mine out even once :(

Nablas-
The 42/38 spur gears come stock and Its also what I use on my car. Depending on track size I will change the first spur to a G84302-05 (41t/red). Ive also used a G84302-31 (39t/grey). What gears you use will also depend on what two speed you have. Im using an after market CEN clutch style two speed that requires the I.D. on the spur gears to be enlarged a bit for it to fit correctly. I hope that helps, Contact me If you need more info.

A good place for info on the CT4 and all other CEN products is on RC Universe. Theres a Dedicated thread to CEN located here...(Sorry for Hijacking this thread)... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_310/tt.htm

As far as belts coming off, Ive never had a problem. This could be because I run the CT4-R in race trim which has different sized pulleys (and both cars use the same belts) so it could be easier for them to come off on the CT4-S. All I can tell you guys is to make sure your belt tensioners are set properly.

And Finaly, Ide just like to agree with you that the CT4 is a great car. Though I was limmited due to busy weekends, The racing I did manage to do this past summer went well with the CT4-R. It was nice to be just as fast if not faster than cars costing double the amount of the CT4-R. But I think that is exactly the image CEN Is going for.

Again, Let me know if you have any questions about the CT4 or anything else.

Hey guys, I have a ct4s on the way and I'm getting a little impatient. Do any of you owners have any videos of your ride to help me pass the time? I have seen what is on cen's website. Thanks
