I ran my new nitro vee for the first time yesterday. Ran great at first! This boat comes with and installed RTS (return to shore) system, which is an electric motor that takes over if the boat stalls during operation. During the break in of the engine it stalled several times on the lake but I was always able to bring it back in with the RTS system, including running out of gas on my last launch. However, as I let off on the controller the RTS motor kept on running and the only way to shut it off was to flip the power switch on the boat. It comes back on again as I turn the power back on again. It should only turn on if you pull the throttle control back. I've tried removing the servo batteries but of course that also cuts power to the control functions.
I am hoping that somebody out there have had a similar problem and that this is not a big issue as I had great fun with the boat.
PLEASE HELP :)

Got a full charge on the batteries???? I know it sounds basic but other than aglitch in the system I really can't think of anything. Most people who I know who have them pull them out to lose the extra weight.

I put in brand new batteries in the radio as well as in the boat.
The weird thing is that everything worked just fine. Even on the last trip. I just have a hard time wanting to pull it out because the boat stalls a lot. It seems like factory settings were rough and I'm having a hard time getting it to run good.
It's nice to have that electric engine to bring it back in if it stalls.

Oh yea, It's gotta beat using a fishing pole or small boat, Or even better SWIMMING!:D I think you'll get the motor to run smoother after you break it in. I think you said yoou only have 1 tank through it? it'll take at least four. My nitro vee doesn't quit now unless it's out o gas or I reverse throttle and cut off gas. For grins throw fresh batteries in it again and if it still does it try to trace any wiring to make sure the problems not there. I'd e mail traxxas to and ask them. Also, International waters is a good site for nitro help try There.
Good luck and keep us posted

try the throttle trim

The RTS power is controlled by the copper paddle switch located just forward of the on/off switch. The paddles are probably out of adjustment. Adjust the paddles so that power only goes to the RTS motor when the throttle stick is all the way back and the throttle trim is at minimum. Adust the idle speed with the throttle trim between half and maximum trim.

It was the copper plates touching. I actually figured that out by going through the assembly instructions from the booklet.
Anyone have any great tuning tips. I ran 1 tank through yesterday and I had a lot of stall problems. It would run for a little bit and then just die. Sounds like the setting is very rich but it idles extremely high as I lean it out. I guess I might have to adjust the servo arm to reduce the idle opening on the carborator. I guess that's the only way to reduce the idle as I lean it out.
Thanks for the tips so far!

Could you drive the boat in reverse with the electric motor??

No it won't go in reverse with the electric motor.
As far as tuning, an ocutra x440 prop or a graupner 40mm x 1.4 does wonders for this boat. www.offshoreelectrics.com has some good prices on props and steve is a good guy if you have any questions. You'll see the kit for the nitro vee to make the non screw on props work.
I had some problems with overheating that I fixed by running the water outlet directly out the side instead of into the exhaust.
As far as the stalling goes I would replace the glow plug first

with the small nitro engines, if it is not broke in yet it will not take any leaning. Keep running it rich, then after a couple of tanks, lean it just a little(just enough that you can see the needle turn). Run a tank through it and repeat. As the engine breaks in, it will handle leaner mixtures. Don't get in a hurry to break in the engine, the longer you take breaking it in the longer it will last.

ok here is what u do u take a water ballon filler and take the tubing off the plastic intake. then take the tube and put it in the filler. make sure it is secure, and fire it up. then turn the water on slightly so it streams through the pipe. and get a tub or a plane prop and run throught the cycles, that way it is so much easier i did it with the plane prop and the boat on teh stand. the plane prop gives enough resistance as if the boat was in the water, or u could leave the boat prop on, and put it in a tub of water and hold it. and still have the hose running water through it. but make sure u fire it up before u turn the water on or else the engine will get cold and it wont fire right. so keep this in mind.
