Hello, I have had my boat for about half a year now. But I finally decided to get it running and start using it.

I have a K&B 3.5cc Outboard Engine (model# 8991). When I tried to start it two weekends ago the engine woould kick but not go. Well it only kicked like 5 times. so...

Anyways does anyone know where I should be starting as far as Needle settings? (I have the single needle black carb.)

Thanks a bunch,
Todd

also, would it be ok as far as to use a Car Based nitro fuel in the engine? Or do I have to use special Boat fuel?

The car's Nitro Rating is 20%....

Thanks again@

Where's your owners manual?

Start with the needle all the way in and back it out one or two full turns. (don't remember the exact amount, might even be 3 full for starters)

Bump it with the starter.

If it dies out, open 1/4 or 1/2 turns till it sits and idles.

Well, I don't have a Owners Manual. Because I got it used.

Also, when I turn the needle anywhere past 1 1/2 turns out it gets really easy to turn and when I put the starter on it the needle spins because of the vibrations...

That stock carb should have a little nut where the needle enters it. Once you make an adjustment, torque it down with a small wrench.

Try to be patient with it. Once you get it to idle pretty good, then the real fun begins.

That 20% is fine and is what I used for sport running. (Racing will be another story because you'll need 40%).

Main thing is to make sure you have a good oil content. Those engines will rev like the dickens so be sure it has a good amount of castor in there.

Alright thanks for all the help. I didn't know what the nut was for until now..

Thanks!

oh yea.. I trade about $30 worth of Old Paintball stuff for the engine, fiberglass V-Hull Boat, Servos, Stater... But they need some rejuvination... ;)

Hi, start at around 3 and a half turns out from fully closed...start it up, throw it in the water an if it runs really rich (crackling) then bring it back in, turn the needle in another 1/8 - 1/4 and try again until it runs nice...you have gone too far if it dies out after a minute or so.

Have you got any pictures you could post of what boat you will be running? You said you were running a Deep V right? model outboard dont seem to perform to as well (they still perform though) as when they are on tunnel boats...
If you think you might like to try a tunnel boat to get it going well...i have an ABS Dumas Sprint, new never run, and juts a little bit of setting up to be done to get it ready to run...up to you, just giving you an option :)

Hope all this helps
Kris
