I'm using the stock .21 motor with a Hot Bodies pipe. I'm pretty happy with the stock motor for right now. The problem is if the motor dies, like if the truck rolls and I don't get it upright fast enough, it is allmost impossible to get it to fire up again. I have to wait like 6 or 7 minutes for it to cool off before it will start again. Is this normal?? I don't have a temp gun yet (coming next week!!!) so I don't know exactly how hot it's running. I don't think it's too hot, I tried the trick with the drop of water and seems about normal. It runs great otherwise. I normally don't have any problems keeping it running, but if it does shut off, or if I stop it on purpose, it just won't re-fire. This is my first nitro so I'm still learning how to fine tune it. I'm just wondering if this is normal or if I'm doing something wrong. Thanks for any help you guys can give me!!!

You're just too lean. Turn the High Speed Needle counter-clockwise 1/16 a turn and see how it goes. If it still does it occasionally, do it again.

Here is what I do. If you are running the stock fuel line which is probably only 2 inches long. Increase the length to about 6 inches and add a Fuel Filter. Tie it off to the body mounts not to the engine and keep it away from moving parts. This will give you the few seconds you or your buddy needs to run up to it and flip it over. Otherwise the engine runs to lean for a short period of time and heats up.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I have a fuel filter on it already. I don't like the stock fuel line anyway and I was going to replace it soon. I'll be sure to add a few extra inches. I'm still trying to fine tune it so it's very possible I'm a little too lean. I'll richen it up a bit and see what happens.

I still need help!!!

It seems no matter how rich I run it, it still does the same thing. I'm having trouble with the throttle/brake linkage and when I hit the brakes, it kills the motor... I just haven't got the linkage just right yet. Anyway... This happened just this morning while I was getting it warmed up. It starts right up and idles smooth. I was slowly rolling around getting warmed up, hit the bakes and it died. It had only ran for about 45 seonds and the motor was still cool to the touch, but it absolutely will not refire unless it sits for about 5 to 10 minutes. I don't know what to do and I'm getting frustrated! Please help!!

if the breaks kil your truck you need to raise your idle just a tad. there is a small black screw coming out of the carb body at an angle. turn this in abot 1/4 turn. if you remove your AirCleaner you should see an opening of about 1.5 - 2 MM. I have my 8-Port set aaround 1.5. that is where my engine runs best. IF I kill my truck to re-fire it I have to hit WOT as I pull the ripcord. sounds harsh but it works for me. I agree that it sounds like yo are to lean.

You might want to try this dual tank mod (http://savage-central.com/ftopic17.html&sid=3a79dfcba4730f4c02b84d70d99c33f0)

running that will give your truck the ability flip on its back and still idle for about 5 mins.

here is my setup.

the line from the left that goes into the curved brass tube comes from my tank and keeps the second tank full. the line that goes to the right is to the carb. on the inside of the tank there is a CLUNK attaches to a small piece of fuel line on the CARB line. this is so that in a tip over the clunk will wieght down the carb supply line and keep it in the fuel.

I flipped today and times it. 6mins 48 secs from flip over to death at idle. this will also alleviate the lean condition you have from hitting the throttle at 1/2 tank and all your fuel sloshing to the back of the tank away from the fuel pickup.

I have this same problem with many of my nitros. I think it also depend on how hot and humid it is outside, because every time I run it I usually have to retune it since the weather in Ohio changes a lot and i drive at night and day which the temp changes. I have added fuel line and a filter to all my nitros but they still kill themselves when on there roof for about 5-10secs, does this happen to many of you or are we just the lucky 2?:(

ok, time for me to be condescending... Forgive me.

in order for your motor to run, it needs 3 things. Spark, Air, and FUEL! there is a little fuel stored in your lines, but generally speaking, not that much. on my Nitro cars, I normally make a coil of about 4 2-3 inch wide loops and zip tie it so it stays in one spot. that way if my car flipps, it has a few more secs before it dies. any and all motors, be it ina RC Car or truck or even in your 1:1 car will not run if the fuel is cut off. on a Savage it is easy to add a second tank like I posted above, since there is a lot of room. the truck is rather large. (dont believe me? try to pack it into a duffel bag to fly ona comercial plane. its a B!tch.) on a 1:10 or any sedan there is not as much room. so I have found the coiled fuel line tends to help.

as to you having to re-tune your motor. that will happen. I try not to mess with my settings to much, but you are right. Humidity and ambient tem will cause havoc on your settings. that is why I can't say, hey if you have a Hyper 8-port your settings will be XXX-HSN XXX-MSN XXX-LSN. I am at Sea level in SoCal and you might be at 5500ft in the Rockies. our airpressure will be different. the barometric pressure will be different. and if you try to run your motor with my settings IF you manage to get it started will be RICH as heck.

I would STRONGLY suggest you try to do the dual tank mod tha tI described above. other wise when you get your motor running good and tuned perfectly at a full tank, when you hit 1/2 tank you will be running lean. so you will richen it up... then when you re-fill your tank it willl be RICH! so you lean it out and again at 1/2 tank you are LEAN again!

I had this problem for about a week when I first got my Savage. I was frustated to the point I was thinking about selling it just to be rid of the headachs. But someone at either Savage Unleashed (http://www.savageunleashed.com/) or Savage Central (http://savage-central.com/index.html) told me to try this mod. It solved most of my tuning issues, and pointed me to the fact that my engine needed to be sealed, as I was still running a bit lean.
Good luck.
