Hello all,
It's been a while since i've been on the forum,i have a hpi nitro mt myself nice truck i like it no problems with it.I have a question about another r/c car or electrics in general i hope you can help me.I'm thinking about getting this http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/05/02/11/06/0005021106648_500X500.jpg

It's just for fun i'm gonna strip it down completely and see what the limits are what could be changed, and basically customize it.The description says it's range is only 100 feet.Is there anyway i can extend the range?and what would i need to do it and how? Also I was thinking about fitting a nitro engine in it but the chassis is out of plastic and the nitro engine get rather hot.But is there anyway that i can mount a ntiro engine in the car to make it faster?or get a bigger electric engine?also if i decide to keep the electric engine how can i extend the battery life so that after about 10mins. of play the battery is dead?is there any way to do that? Please let me know. This will be a fun project, lol.I like doign stuff like this.Should be fun. Thanks for any info you guys may have.

I dont think it would be possible to put a nitro engine in it and for it to work properly mainly because the chassis and transmission wouldnt cope with all that power same with a powerful elctric motor. How big is it?
I dont know how you could increase the range maybe if you put electrics from a proper rc into it and used a proper reciever and transmitter that would work but you would have to change everything included putting a servo and speed controller in probably.

It's over 28 inches in length and 12 inches wide.I was thinking of cutting out a part of the plastic chassis and mounting a metal piece in there just for the engine.I was thinking of attaching the metal piece to the plastic by some allen head screws and since the metal might get hot from the heat form the nitro engine i was thinking of using some kind of rubber pieces between the plastic and metal so that the plastic doesnt melt.Well let me know thanks for your info.

If you were to put a halfway decent nitro engine in it, it would shread the tranny gears and drivetrain, if it dosnt it will probably rip itself and the metal piece out of the car, because that plastic used on toy rc's is very low in quality. As for the range problems the only solution I can think of would be putting real RC electronics in it.

If i was you i would just stick to using a small electric motor instead of a nitro.

It's possible to make it nitro with a lot of modification. Like said, the gears probably WON'T stand up to a nitro engine.

As for the melting problem, titanium (any grade) is an extremely poor heat conductor for a metal so you might want to consider that for engine mounts.

I know i wount be using the gears i will be using gears out of a real r/c car something similar to my hpi nitro mt or something better and trying to make them fit.
