Got to change the spur gear on my sportmaxx as it is stripped completely. Can you just swap a metal gear in there? What a crappy plastic thing :(

I just put the Robinson Racin steel spur and double disk slipper kit in my T Maxx. It works great.

ahh i think tower should have it.or robinsworld or something like that u have to look around for it.

Just an opinion, but I like the plastic spur. Dirt cheap (under $3) easy to install, takes the torque that might take out your tranny or some other part of the drive train. Metal spurs are OK but you better plan on upgrading everything else too.

Reading through the archives, I read that.. THe plastic spur is cheap insurance to go, before your tranny goes. I went with a plastic one for now. Couldn't afford the steel one anyway for now :(.
I am going to look into the Robinson though, and later on just upgrade tranny gears too, maybe..
thanks

This is probably a dumb question but when you say have to upgrade the tranny do you mean with all metal gears? Or with better plastic ones? Which ever it is who sells them?

Does the plastic double disc slipper kit improve performance because I might get one too?

Tower has them listed. These things, I realized, everyone carries. I bought the plastic one from Traxxas from a lhs. A $4 piece I needed asap, was not worth mail ordering.

heres a q for ya.... when ur gears get dirt in them and the 2 gears jam which wood u rather happer? the spur gets eaten... o no $3 or wood u rather have ur tranny and engine blow? i look at it this way its 3 bux for a spur gear and o what 180 plus another 100 for my maxx tranny and engine... i think ill sacrifice the plastic spur... but if ur made of money go for the metal one

It went just after a break in and an hour or so of tuning it after break in... it was a hard tuning period.... it ended up hitting a fence and breaking a bulkhead...... I was giving it full gas often once I broke it in :D for for a couple of tanks...but I can' t imagine it stripping b/c of that....
So, I assume it came w/o the proper meshing from factory or when it impacted the fence post it might have kept running for a few seconds which would have eaten my spur gear :( .
Either way, I am doing the install tonight or tommorrow

I used a robinsen steel spur gear and took out main gear to the reverse idler gear and could't get my maxx to go any where so I got the gears that I needed from traxxas. I heard that if you are going to run a steel spur gear that you have to use a harded steel clutch bell and all steel gears in your tranny to help combat breakage.
hope this help's you out
