Lately, i was thinking it would be cool to be sponsored. I know its just not all free stuff and girls. Who here is sponsored? Another thing i want to know, is how old do you have to be to be sponsored?

If you become sponsored, what do they require you to do? If you have to go by plane to a race, do they assist you in paying for it? Im 14, is that too young?

I am sponsored by Mastercard, Visa, American Express, etc... :D
Most sponsorship deals are merchandise ONLY. There are also restrictions and rules you must abide by. You get stuff, but you have to pay your own lodging travel AND race fees! Very few racers get everything! And at really high levels, you MIGHT get some cash for TQ and or winning the A. Alot of times; you end up spending more money after being sponsored cause you need to stay up top and go to LOTS of races.
There is no age for sponsorship. And you can't ask for it. If you had to, you're probably NOT ready. Sponsors visit big races and see whos doing good, real good. If you are ready, they will come to you!
So in the end; don't think about sponsorship or dream about it. Concentrate on doing good, and work your way up. They will come.

The requirements for a racer who is being sponsored depends on the level of their sponsorship. For most(who simply get discounts on kits & parts from the sponsor, many times about 50% off retail prices), they are strongly encouraged(I don't want to say required, that's a bit strong a word for it) to go to as many major events as they can, & it helps if they can make it to the higher mains. Travel costs are still completely covered by the racer, not his sponsor. However, a factory level driver(Kinwald, Barry Baker, Matt Francis, etc. are factory drivers) generally have all major expenses covered(including travel costs), & they also work directly for the sponsor & have a salary from them. Those guys ARE expected to do well in all the big events, & of course the sponsors hope they'll contend to win. To be honest, not everyone likes being sponsored, for many it is just more stress than it's worth. That's why I have no desire to seek a sponsor myself, I'm in the hobby to have fun, & stressing about doing well is the LAST thing I want to deal with(I get enough of that at work)......

not to diss you, but most people feel they don't have to tell you they are sponsored, either you know they are or ya don't.

Yeah I live in Turkey
As Grizzbob said I have a %50 discount for all items . But I get a free FT TC3 , free Nosram Dominator Power and a free set of Enneti Tyres .
In 2004 I will attend races in Europe and USA ( wait for me snowbirds :) ) I will all the travel costs . If I make good results worldwide , maybe I can get an international sponsorship .
I am twenty years old and I do not believe age is important for sponsorship . It is a just matter of responsibility and good race results .

Keep in mind... 50% off of MSRP is not that much. Take Mugen's new MBX-5 Buggy. MSRP is just under $1,000.00, just about any hobby shop sells them for under $600.00.
So in a weird way ... every hobby shop is already sponsoring you by giving you a 40% deal. LOL :D

Yeah you are right .
But in Turkey , lots of hobby shops sell for retail prices due to high taxes . So %50 discount is a great deal for me :)

Im sponsored by World Class batteries, KC racing, and TM racing tires....my deals are around 10-15% below dealer cost....which makes for some cheap goodies...
remember...just because a shop sells a car for $600...doesnt mean thats how much they paid...they are prolly making a good chunk of change on that item.

I used to be sponsored,That was quite a few years ago but I had 100% motor & batteries and free cars/truck.I really did NOT like it very much,RC racing became not very much fun(at least for me)I could and did make the A mains at a few nat's and allways made the A's at the region races.I ended up quiting RC racing because I found no money in it or fun. When I was racing full time only a few racers made money not all the factory guys got paid.I just started back racing again, would I want to be sponsored again..in a word..NO,I'll pay my way and buy all my parts..But I will be happy about racing, wont care how I finish..I had my moment in the RC sun,Be carefull what you wish for,it's a dog eat dog world at the top..
